So, this rarely happens but I actually went to the movies, once a week, these past three weeks...well, 4 actually, because I think there was a week between the first and second...but oh well...Anywho...
I REALLY liked ALL 3! "Looper" kicked everything off, followed by "Sinister" and then "7 Psychopaths". Next on my list is "Cloud Atlas", so I'm sincerely hoping to make it 4 in a row. Some people had their gripes about "Looper" and I don't entirely disagree with them, but the amount of actual entertainment surpassed any gripes I had with the movie, so I didn't really care. Emily Blunt is brilliant. I always did really like her though, and of course Joseph Gordon Levitt is a wonderful actor, and Bruce Willis wasn't in your face. For the record, I LOVE Bruce Willis, but I was afraid of him detracting from two other stars that I've grown to love. And he didn't. In fact, his minimal appearance, in comparison, made it for me. Usually they don't do that with the bigger stars anymore. And I actually liked the ending. It satisfied me that it wasn't all too "satisfying" in the fact that so many movies push for sequels, that this didn't give me the feeling of leaving it open. Shit actually just ended but you know life is going to go on for the other characters. "Sinister"...now, I just recently had dental surgery, and I was prescribed pain medicine on the visit before last Friday's surgery. I was able to put up with the pain all the way until the night before, which was when I finally took one, which also happened to be the night I saw "Sinister" so, needless to say, when it comes out, I'd like to watch it again. To me it wasn't crazy scary. But it was creepy and I like that. A lot. It was like watching a legitimately good scary story unfold before my eyes. It had an ending that I kind of expected, but was still surprised. "7 Psychopaths" wasn't nearly as funny as I thought it would be, but there was a lot more depth than I thought there would be. The previews made it seem to me that you'd be introduced to each psychopath as part of the story. Some were actually interwoven as a story within the story. It was still funny, in my opinion. Christopher Walken is the man and Woody Harrelson is hilarious. I really didn't digest this movie like I did the other two. It didn't leave me thinking about the movie as I walked out of the theater, but thats okay once in a while. It was enjoyable while I was there. They left you being able to predict what was going to happen next, while at the same time, looking at the one character and saying "Fuck it. Anything will go." and it became fun to see if I was right or wrong about what I thought was going to happen. It was also legitimately sad at times. Is it just me, or are things going right a bit more often than they usually do? |
