*shudder* I am sorry that you have to even see that.

I am legitimately terrified for this election. Especially if the democrats do not unify behind whomever gets the nomination.

All I keep hearing on NPR is how the Republican party is falling apart due to their refusal to all fall in line behind Trump.

There's talk of launching a third party candidate for the anti-Trump conservatives to back. I'd be interested to see if we get the election of 1912 all over again with Teddy Roosevelt getting pissed off and starting the Bull Moose/Progressive party, splitting the vote, and taking away much of the votes that would have gone to Republicans, thereby Woodrow Wilson securing the office. There was a Socialist, Debs, in that election too.

Eh, frankly there won't be another strong candidate. People are talking about a contested convention, but frankly, unless something crazy happens, it's going to be Clinton Vs. Trump.

Frankly, I sort of hate them both.

I don't think there is even enough popcorn for this election cycle to be honest.

Hahaha! *Is literally eating microwave popcorn right now*

Well, the superdelegates seem to have already locked in for Hillary, whether their states were majority for her or not. Even most of the ones in states that haven't caucused/held their primaries yet are already pledging their votes. I swear she's just riding on name recognition.

I think that is honestly bullshit. If you are a super-delegate and your state went Bernie, you should give your vote to Bernie.

This whole election cycle just makes me SO mad.

Sounds like they're making up for eight years ago, where they took away all her Florida votes because they said Florida voted too early halfway through the nomination. That wasn't cool either.

The entire nomination process has never actually been democratic, and has frequently involved rule abuse and active campaigns to change the rules to the obvious benefit of one candidate over the other.

Why any of you are at all surprised by this i'lll never know

Put me in the Hillary camp. For all his talk of "revolution" and "changing the system", Sanders has no practical plans for how to actually accomplish any of his stated goals, they all count on things just going his way. Apparently he's been asleep for the last eight years.

Do I want things to change? Yes. It's a shit system.

Do I think he can do it?

lol

Realistically I'm not even sure he could beat any of the Republican candidates, but I'd still vote for him over Trump or Cruz. This, however, is the faintest praise imaginable. There's little I wouldn't vote for against those two. John Wayne Gacy would make it a difficult debate, perhaps; I don't know yet how I'd feel voting for a reanimated corpse.

Kasich? Someone seemingly grounded in reality vs someone with (completely unrealistic in a presidential term) goals i actually agree with? Tough decision. Would probably sit that one out.

Tangentially related to the entire fiasco...

The entire concept of an "outsider" candidate having inherent merit is terrifying to me. Running a government actually does require a specific skill set, no matter what people might want to believe. There's a prevailing tendency in this country to give the opinions of the unqualified some special value specifically because they're not part of some nebulous "establishment" that has been painted as the enemy. You see it in politics (example: the entire Trump shitshow), but also in alternative medicine, climate change denial, and at the extreme end, conspiracy theorists.

A lot of people don't want to admit that the experts might actually know something they don't. Ironically, many of them are the same ones that bitch about "participation ribbons". Go figure.

I don't often post about politics, so have a rant.

Later Edit: Yeah, nevermind, Kasich's really not much better. "Have you ever been stopped by a policeman that's an idiot?" Jan 21, 2011, unprompted rant.

Now that all of the GOP candidates have dropped out, the right is left with only Trump. Uncontested, he's pretty much locked in for the candidacy.

Sadly, I don't think so.

How about Kasich's withdrawal speech though? I feel sad just from that that he wasn't the choice. Sadly though, it looks like my two bottom picks are now running against each other. Clinton vs Trump. I hate Trump's personality, the way he attacks people, and his attitude, but I feel like Clinton has a history of just being part of the establishment problem, plus a lot of controversy recently. Frankly, I feel worried about having either one of them as president.

I'm pretty sure Trump will have to get my vote though, but only by a slim margin, and only because his economic policies are actually really good. As a guy going into business, and planning to start his own company, it seems like Trump's plan will help me in my life the best, while Clinton will just make stuff harder with her tax increases.

Yeah, I mean, I identify a lot more with libertarians, but I just don't see it happening until the press gets on board with, you know, actually discussing who the libertarian candidate is. There's no way to pull in enough voters for that unless the media gets on board.

So I guess I would, but at this point my vote really wouldn't go anywhere.

Also, for the record, I almost completely blame the press for Trump being elected. Kasich was way better, and he got almost no coverage. Everybody just talked about Trump, even his opposition. All we needed to beat him was to just ignore him.
