A Short Story in Progress By: CIAHacker/Zabuza Imagine for a moment that everyone you ever knew, loved, and hated disappeared for eternity. Now, imagine that not everyone disappeared, but that you ceased to exist on one plane but lived on another. Further, imagine that you know everyone you ever loved exists on that other plane, and you have no way of possibly returning. And, everyone on that plane thinks you are dead. Sound scary? Yeah, well, that’s where I come in. I’m living it. The day that started it all for me was a fateful morning unlike others. Oh, I’ve had fateful mornings before, but none like the day I was about to experience. You may never believe me, but four thousand other people and I share the same experience each in our own way. Intrigued? Let me tell you my story. I served as a mail runner for both towers of the World Trade Center. Our home base of operations was in the North Tower on Floor 93. I don’t know why, but it just was. Hey, I only worked for them, right? Anyway, moving on, on the morning of September 11th, 2001, I was working a few floors below from where the plane hit. Around the time the plane was moving in closer, I was standing at the window where the first plane collided. I saw it coming, and froze. Next thing I know, I’m standing in a dimly lit room with a few hundred other people. Did I die? Is this what death is like? No, it’s not. Ever hear stories of alien abductions growing up and wondering if they had any truth to them? I watched Star Trek thousands of times, and wondered why they never prevented disasters like 9/11. In reality, higher beings always have. On that fateful morning, I had died and yet also been bestowed the chance to begin anew. I had not died, yet I had? Confused? I’ll clear it up, just give me a few minutes. So, there we were. People I recognized from work, from the floor I was on, and from other floors. I figured we had died, and we were awaiting our judgments before we went to wherever we were going. People were talking to each other, wondering what was going on. The noise level became deafening in the small room. Then, the lights brightened, and we settled down. That morning, we were cloned. All people who died on 9/11 were cloned. The originals had been moved to another dimension were they could continue to live, and our lifeless clones were left as placeholders for the morgue. Ok, I see that I’m confusing you. Let me reorganize and start from where they started telling us about our day. Ok, let me clear up who “they” is. To my understanding, several thousand years ago, long before civilized man roamed earth, a higher alien species that call themselves Beings set out to create a better life for their human “experiment”. They abducted several humans, rapidly accelerated evolution, combined several different alien DNA with human DNA, and produced a higher species of human: meta-humans. Well, these meta-humans needed a place to inhabit, being greatly intellectually superior to their fellow cave dwellers. The Beings decided to leave behind one meta-human on each continent to ensure that the species would thrive in the very least on Earth, while shipping all other meta-humans to an artificially constructed Earth II. Earth II, being a highly evolved Earth (Prime), houses several billion species, including that of the meta-humans, in perfect harmony. It’s the utopia that Earth has yet to achieve. As a result of their evolved forms, Earth II has diligently been working on helping Earth Prime to become what Earth II currently is. But, as stubborn as Earth Prime is, it needs a little nudging. That’s where “they” come in. “They” are a highly developed entity similar to a government military, but more so. If you’ve seen Star Trek on Earth, then you’ll get how they operate. They call themselves AstroCommand, and the division we dealt with in particular is Temporal Investigations. They, along with four other divisions, ensure that exploration, enrichment, and Earth I & II’s safety are top priority. This includes, preserving Earth from large, history-changing disasters…and while they couldn’t prevent 9/11 as a whole, they did do something. Apparently, their high commander, Admiral Lee Almodovar, is an Earth Prime native meta-human coexisting in Earth II’s realm. Mind you, Earth II doesn’t even exist in the same timeframe as Earth Prime. Earth II’s date is actually several years in the future…2654. Apparently there’s a weird, highly complicated space-time continuum rift that appears every millennia that allows for two worlds centuries apart to coexist for 1000 years. But, that alone requires more explanation than I ever want to give. Just trust me for now, and we’ll leave it at that. So, according to what we’ve been told, and what we’ve learned, Admiral Lee wakes up on the morning of 9/11 only to discover that the first tower had been hit by a wayward jetliner. Horrible disaster, oh well, no big deal right? Well, to Admiral Lee, yes. Then the second plane hits. No longer an accident, and Admiral Lee springs into action. He orders Temporal to do something about this situation, and that’s how I’m here telling you this. Ok, it's not that simple. That morning, while I stepped and froze in front of the window before being disintegrated by a 747, I also had stepped into a veritable freeze in time. Ok, this is taking too long. I’ll just let one of the officers in this lounge I’m in take over…he’ll do a better job, then I’ll step in again when the time’s right. All right, it’s apparently now my turn to tell the story of Earth Prime, September 11th, 2651, I mean, 2001. Sorry, date-time confusion. I’m a Temporal Dynamics Engineer aboard the AstroShip Astris. On the morning of 9/11, I was directly in charge of transplantation of all four thousand victims-to-be aboard the four aircraft, on the three structures, and on the ground surrounding the four sites. Without getting too much into detail about the dynamics of temporal displacement theory, I’ll just dive into our mission that day. That morning, we enacted a never-before-done feat—we froze Earth Prime. Not froze in temperature, but as in a time freeze. Our time-freeze operation lasted two and a half months, but no one except those few meta-humans on Earth Prime actually aged those two and a half months. And, no one noticed anyway. In order to retrieve all four thousand people for transplantation to Earth II, we had to reverse time at individual sites, freeze time, and begin cloning both people and objects. Therefore, we also killed four thousand clones, but we saved four thousand lives. They just can’t see their families, friends, and loved ones anymore. That point aside, the first phase of the mission proved to be one of the most tedious and most difficult days. Earth Prime, 210109.11, early morning…a jet plane heads for the first tower and stops just three meters short of the windows. Time frozen, we began. We moved into the building, floor by floor, from the point of impact heading upward. Samples of DNA were taken from every single person, both on the plane and in the building. People on the ground who died as a result of falling debris were also sampled. Data about all interior objects, building structure, and positions were taken. Duplication began first with the upper third of the building, then interior objects, and finally people. Temporal proceeded to remove the upper third of the building from three floors below the point of impact to the roof, and transplanted this portion through our intricate systems of inter-dimensional portals to a vacant lot on Earth II. From Earth II, an exact copy of victims, building, and plane were transplanted onto the remaining structure on Earth Prime. While this may seem somewhat easy for us, all of phase one took two weeks to complete. We started phase two mid phase one. Phase two involved performing the exact same procedures as phase one using the second tower, except this time we had jumpers to deal with from the first tower as well. This aspect of phase two extended it by another week. One month later, phase one and two complete, both sections of the tower—still in time freeze—rest in suspended animation in a Temporal lot on Earth II. Now, placing anything in time freeze for extended periods of time causes great deterioration to the body and structures, to both those not experiencing the suspension and those experiencing it. After two weeks of phase one, we had to start releasing controlled freezes, allowing one nanosecond to elapse every three hours before continuing in order to preserve all vital signs including those of the terrorists. Phase three took us to the Pentagon where we proceeded to reverse time and start rescue procedures for the planes and the office workers at the Pentagon. Same process as phase one and two, but we couldn’t save the office workers. Time had so greatly degraded as a result of phases one and two that we were unable to preserve the Pentagon office workers. Original workers would not survive an hour past rescue. Phase three rescued the plane yet lost an unfortunate amount of office workers. We don’t have the power to do everything. Phase three lasted three weeks bringing our total time to just over a month and a half. Phase four of the mission, now dubbed Operation Earth Preserve, involved catching the wayward plane that crashed landed in the clearing killing all onboard. Since a whole month and a half had passed since the incident had occurred, that area involved using a time reversal to recreate the plane from its pieces, then suspend time just twenty feet from plane impact. Fortunately, due to the lengthy passage of time and substantial distance from the first three attacks, we did manage to rescue everyone and everything onboard. The Admiral felt that the terrorist should not be cloned, and should be left to die with the clones. Per his orders, we killed both the originals and clones we had made of the terrorist attackers on all planes. Phase four proved to be slightly more difficult than the previous phases because of the elapsed time between rescue efforts. Trying to reverse time in a whole state and then suspending it just under two months from a major incident in the time-space continuum proves to be a great hardship when many of the vital energy sign had drastically degraded. Unlike the Pentagon incident, the plane and its occupants had enough vital energy remaining during our lengthy and painstaking procedure that saving every person on board was not a complete problem. Cloning the plane was the problem. Two weeks later, another jet plane was brought in—borrowed from a nearby airport—filled with our clones and the original terrorists, and the original plane with original passengers sans the terrorists was relocated to the lot on Earth II. Total time elapsed, just over two months. I’m sure by this time you may feel that we’ve actually served no justice to those who survived and their families on Earth Prime, but give us time to explain ourselves. All will make sense in time. After each phase, time was allowed to resume so that the course of history could continue practically uninterrupted. Every person that you thought died that day in fact hadn’t. Every jumper, every firefighter, every office worker, every bird, every animal, every speck of insignificant dust, everything relocated and saved. After phase four, when the first tower fell, a time freeze was enacted in mid-collapse. Our rescue team searched through the collapsing building for any people that may be trapped or that would have died. We moved forward in time, analyzed all possible outcomes, and rescued anyone that would definitely not survive. In one of the towers, our analysis showed that a woman on the stairwell would survive her twenty-story drop, being buried for days, and come out rescued by several firemen. Per that analysis, we left her behind only with a cloaked life-support system to ensure that she did survive a number of days. Every day after being buried alive, a Temporal medical officer was dispatched to check on her vitals, and ensure her survival up until she was rescued. The same was performed for countless other who continue to live on Earth Prime as survivors of a national tragedy, despite the fact that what they perceived to be angels were actually AstroCommand officers performing great duties. |
