I seriously hope I spelled that right.
I know, this is an older series, and all of you surely know about it already ... but, I've finally given it a chance. I never liked watching it on Toonami, and I just kind of always thought it was "overated". Well now I'm currently reading the manga (right now I'm on Volume 7) and I have to say, I was completely wrong. I had seen the OVA before, but I'd always just label that as something "Much better than the series". It's a good series, sometimes I crave for some death in it (to have it be more intense), but even without a lot of that it's still great. I've heard the anime is better the, the original unedited subbed versions. From what my friends tell me the anime has incredible music, and just like with Naruto, I'm sure it's more fun "watching" fights than "reading" them. So yeah, I know I'm behind, but I have to say so far I'm starting to really enjoy this series. |

*Sigh* Yes what toonami did to Rurouni Kenshin was quite horrible. The manga is so much better then the anime. Unless you get it uncut subbed or dubbed. Yes, even the uncut dubbed gets better. There is surprisingly a lot more depth in the manga and it also doesn’t throw in useless segments that have nothing to do with the actual series. If anyone out of manga choices and hasn’t read Rurouni Kenshin yet I highly suggest you should.
P.S. You spelt it right. |

I'm pretty new to manga also, I've only really read Naruto (all of it) and now Kenshin. Shonon manga's are pretty cool I'd say. (Progressive storyline)
Well I've heard the series is pretty good until about the 3rd season or so, when it apparently breaks away from following the manga and throws in a ton of uneeded fillers. But, I'll probably just read all of the manga first, then go back to watch my "favorite" segments. (That's basically what I do with Naruto) |

Kenshin kicks ass. Batousai the Man Slayer. By far one of the coolest samurai-like characters ever created. I loved the anime though admittedly I've only seen the one on Toonami and I've seen Samurai X on DVD.
The thing I find the most fascinating about the entire thing is that Kenshin Himura was based on a real person from Japanese History. |

Originally posted by Pockets Yeah, if you check out the Manga, almost all of the main characters were somewhat based on real people, it has profiles and goes pretty in depth with them. |

Yeah, and I'm not sure about the Anime, but there's several side-stories and extras in the Manga. A short 3 Chapter story around Sanosuke, then 1 of Crescent of the Moon (I think that's what it's called) revolving around Hiko in the past, and others I'm sure.
Very cool stuff. And yeah, right now I'm on Volume 8. It's just gotten totally awesome. And I will have to say, Saito rocks. (Last edited by Xeo-sama on 05-04-05 05:12 PM) |

Well Kenshin is cool because he doesn't even need guns to fight.

I've been watching a lot of Rurouni Kenshin these past few days and I'm almost caught up to where they stray away from the manga. Once I get done with Kenshin I plan on watching Samurai X again and acutally watching reflections this time. Since the first time I saw it I never seen any of the Rurouni Kenshin series before and Reflections will spoil some of the series if you haven't seen it (which is what I heard).
I will probalaby watch the rest of the Rurouni Kenshin series because I like to make judgements for myself and see what I think about the fillers, and not have people make those decesions for me. I thought the fillers were actually pretty good after the Oniwaban arc. Only one I didn't care for was the circus one. |

Hmm... Rurouni Kenshin to me was like a history lesson. When I went to world history I knew all about the Meiji era. WHITOUT the fictional aspects. XD
You know if you really like Kenshin I reccommend a look from the opposite point of view. Peace Maker. It's really good. |

Originally posted by True Flight That's one reason why I like Kenshin so much, so far. It seems to be based off a ton of real fictional events, and almost every character is somewhat based off of a real person (cool bios in the manga). I definitely want to check out Peacemaker too, I've heard it's pretty good. |

Saw some good reviews on it. *smirks* AWA comes around I'm deffinetely going to get it. Infact the voice of some people are guests there. So I'm going to get some copies of the dvds. Bah fan subs, fan dubs, all the same to me. They just can't be like Gravitation. TheRightStuf sort of sucks at it. XD

Originally posted by True Flight Yeah, I hear its great and insn't the main character in the shinsengumi? After watching all of Kenshin I will probalaby be watching PeaceMaker. Just one question I want to ask how far does the anime go up to the manga I have heard up to episode 68. I'm at 64 right now and just got done with the kyoto arc. |

XD there's a ton of manga and there is a TON of manga. Yes, the main character of PeaceMaker is in the Shinsengumi.
My Gods...I did a report on the Meiji Era for the 8th grade when I was REALLY into Rurouni Kenshin...and new everything they'd thrown at me. I mainly knew because I'd already looked most everything up about it. I was looking for whether or not there really had been a Yutokiri Batosai (>< sorry if that's spelled wrong). XD you know you're a looooooser when you look for that stuff just because you want to know. |
