Im on the Drumline at my highschool, and I want to quit. My friends and fellow drumline say they need me because im one of the best ones on there. Not many middle schoolers are coming up when they get to highschool so it will be a very small drumline with hardly any talent.
Im tired of putting up with the section leader and the band director. Running all these laps and push-ups are killing me. (sigh) What should I do quit or stay and suffer but the drumline will actually be decent. Also I hate carrying that big ass bass drum when i know im good enough to play snare or quints. Try-outs are this week what should I do. Heres my choices.... 1) suffer for the line? 2) leave and be free and maybe ruin my chances of getting a scholarship? |

Tough choice, honestly.
But as people say ... do what "you" want to do, and don't end up doing things you don't like for the rest of your life. One of my friends really liked band and was really into it, but he just really ended up losing care for the band "within the school" and hated the teacher and everything. So, he quit. He didn't like it. And now he's very happy and glad he doesn't have to do anything with the school band again. Then, there's another point of view you can take. You have to take risks, and be willing to work for things like scholarships. Honestly, I don't know what to say. But if you're struggling over a decision for this, try not to worry about it. It does seem like something you should put some thought into though. (I doupt that helped at all, but oh well...) (Last edited by Darth Xeodious on 05-09-05 02:53 PM) |

You should never do anything you don't feel comforable or don't want to do. If your after a scholarship and joining is the only thing you can do then go for it, it might be fun, but if you seriously don't want ot be in the drumline, don't join.
But as Xeo said it's something you need to decide, it's your future. |

Thanks for the tips, but i've made my mind up. I went to the 1st day of try-outs and it was really boring. The section leader was annoying and i really dont like the director. I like playing the drums and I know i can get a scholar ship, but even if i do ill have to be i band at the college and i may hate it too. On the second day of try-outs I went and they asked if I was quitting. They dont want me to so i said i havent made my mind up.
They said just pack your things and go to the library. Saying it as if they dont need me. They do need me but that remark took me to the edge. I said "Fine if you dont need me then try and win the compitions by your self. If you want to act tough and own the line then do it im not putting up with your s!@# anymore." So thats it i quit and im not going back. Maybe when the leader can show some respect ill return. But anyways next year im gonna try-out for leader and take his spot on snare and section and leader see how he likes that. |
