What do you guys feel about them? Own any of them? Are they good, reliable?

A friend of mine and I were recently looking around half.com, and saw some incredibly good deals with boxsets of anime for extremely low prices. Gungrave, I think for around $40, Crest of the Stars for $20.

Only thing is, they were unofficial bootlegs. But I mean are they that bad or anything?

Just thought I'd see what you guys think on unofficial stuff like this, and maybe you guys have experience with anime bootlegs of some kind.

well I have Bleach 1 - seventy something XD on DVD-R fun huh.

Then there's the bootlegged Fushigi Yuugi. It sucks because the subtitles are missing in areas.

Finally on VCD I have Final Fantasy Advent Children... Pretty good

My brother copied all of DNAngel on to his compy and has it on DVD-R. XD

speaking of which, i'm making bleach DVD formated bootlegs, with full menu options, skipping forward, and everything manually done, not effortless themes. subs from Lunar.

it takes me about 24 real hours (about a week if i'm really working) to make a disc. each disc has about 18 episodes. i'm in the processing of doing vol. 4, which ends at either ep 66 or 68, depending on how much i can fit. i'm selling'em to friends for $5 a disc.

but back on the subject... if you can find something of almost equal quality, but much much cheaper, why not? it's not as if the fat cats are actually gonna go bankrupt or anything like that. i mean seriously, $20 for a yuu yuu hakusho disc, with only 4 eps? wtf's up with that? there's like 112 eps, divided by 4, multiplied by 20 = $560+$42.60 tax or... about $100 for the bootleg which is massproduced + $8.25 tax, or even $35 from a guy like me plus $0 tax? $602.60<$35....

As goofy and crazy as this sounds, I kind of want to find a booleg of the Namek / Frieza Saga's of DBZ.

What!?

Honestly I think those two Saga's were great. I watched an episode last night, and it just really brought back old memories as a kid when I originally watched it. Early DBZ really has a powerful nostalgic feel to it for me, so I kind of enjoy the early seasons even these days.

If I could find a cheap bootleg of those entire saga's, I'd probably get it.

For old times sake.

That was the only good Saga...What are you talking about Xeo? Like, the rest of the saga's had too much monologing...

I used to have all of the Movies on bootleg DVD...but I gave it to my cousins 2 years ago

Someday I'll say the same.

When I have my own computer.

This one, with 800mb of free space (that seems to magically go down everyday) won't cut it.

... seriously, when I get my PC, I'm going to have a few 120GB HD's for it. Yes, a few. I'm tired of having to worry about space.

I have Sailor Moon R and Sailor Moon Stars as bootlegs. So much cheaper (I would have downloaded them, but I couldn't find it). They both are a good quality, thought the Sailor Moon Stars has like two momments in which it doesn't show subtitles for what the characters say, but you can get the jist of what they were saying (at least if you know the character , you do).

er... if you're talking about irl, just go to any "asian" movie place. all they've got is bootlegs. if you're talking about online or whatnot, go to any "asian" online store. but yeah, amazon is a great place too, as you've already mentioned yourself.

but on another note, WTFFFFFF bleach is licensed... and Lunar stopped subbing it!!! this totally effects my bootlegs! i cant use DB's version! Lunar's version is more sharp, which looks professional on the TV. DB will make me look like an ass -.-'

I am the same EXACT way with DBZ and Sailor Moon. I still watch 'em and get all nostalgic. 5th grade rocked.

Between a friend of mine and I, we've got quite a bit of anime. (Well, she's got A LOT more than I do. XD ) I downloaded a bunch of Inu-Yasha episodes, some Chobits, some Sailor Moon StarS, and everything else that I had that my friend ended up getting, I deleted. Cuz I only downloaded them and pirated them that way. However, my friend's dad gets stuff off of Netflix, so yeah. They order the DVD's and then pirate them. So now she has the entire Fushigi Yuugi series, a crap load of old school DBZ stuff, and some GT, the DBZ movies, the Cardcaptor Sakura movies, FF:AC, the Eikoden Fushigi Yuugi series, the first 3 Inu Yasha movies, the entire Descendants of Darkness series(only 4 discs)...and...that's all I can come up with off the top of my head now. So yeah...she takes care of the anime and I take care of downloading the music and stuffers. I'm not even gonna list everything I have regarding that.

Bootlegs are most of the time reliable but you will never be able to sell them for a lot of cash to a collecter because they are unoffical DVD's.

I get my anime off EBAY because it's reliable if you know who to buy from.
I have a few bootleg's and a few offical DVD's but they both were High quality when they got to me so I'm happy.
