For the last few weeks AVG went corporal on us, or whatever. They were going to stop being free and you'd end up having to pay for their program, but I thought that started in January or February?

But now, its ... working again, like normally. Weird?
Grisoft have announced that AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition version 7.1 will expire in January 2007, and users will be required to upgrade to AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition version 7.5. Users are being encouraged to move to the commercial version of AVG especially the AVG Anti-Malware and AVG Internet Security products as they protect against spyware as well as viruses. In the last two years the increase in infections has been relating to spyware rather than viruses, AVG Free (including the 7.5 edition) does not detect spyware. However, Grisoft do provide a Free version of AVG Anti-Spyware - based upon the former Ewido engine.


Guess it still may happen.

Well I mean I've had it installed forever, it was just weird because for a few weeks it all of a sudden stopped doing anything and said I had to upgrade to their pro service or something like that. Now all of a sudden its active again and working like it normally was.

When I got the message, it was pretty confusing. It was like saying that the pro version was discounted, but you could still get it free. Then, it linked to the pro version, leaving the free version extremely hard to find.

Like Zone Labs did with their free firewall, it's still there, just they want you to buy the pro version.

Ya, that confused me for a bit as well, but when I built my new comp a friend of mine pointed out where I could still get it for free. I guess they don't wanna force a charge... but damned if they don't wanna get the charge from us
