I was just reading different articles here and there from different politics and I got to thinking about a job application I put in a few days ago, on there was a question that asked what i thought the % is of honest politics in the country.. i said less then 50%. Which I dont know what that has to do with a body shop.. but hey its 2007.. who knows..

So heres the topic.. what % do u think is honest? and im talking about as an overall thing. So let me as well as everyone else know what you think.

I'd agree with the less than 50% for sure.

It's really hard to know just how honest any politician is. They can talk and talk and it's difficult for the general public to keep them accountable when much of the time we can't actually verify if politicians actually do what they say.

Much of the time there is a big ceremony and pictures and media attention and then nothing. After the media is shown just how socially responsible the government wants to appear then the government is off the hook to actually follow through because most of the media is too lazy to actually follow up on an old story. True, once in a while someone notices that the government is lazy or irresponsible, but probably not nearly as often as it actually is.

I personally think the government has too much power and influence in society. The excess of power is where the corruption breeds from.

I couldnt agree more with you on this.. I mean with power come a great resonsiblility.. everyone has heard this and also im sure everyone has heard those with power tend to use it. The politicians believe that they got power so they say stuff to get more ppl under them and further increase their power.. There are alot of corrupt politicians out there.. I mean they dont really care about "the people" just about themselves and where they stand on the political totem pole. every now and then someone who actually cares comes along but once they get a taste of power the loose their ability to truthfully care..

people, not ppl. Sorry, just a little note I had to slip in.

Anywho, personally I would say less than 30% overall. Sure, there is that occasional politician who really cares about the community/country, but usually they are more like geeogree described.

Wow, another "I agree with geeogree" moment. Those are fun!

hehe, yeah. I'm coming around more and more to a moderate position.

And I agree with Elara. It probably is less than 30%. I think many people enter politics with the idea that they are going to be different than the people currently in office. I think they either give up on their quest to make a difference because they have trouble getting into positions of power without becoming corrupt themselves or they give in and become corrupt and give up on their desire to try and fix the government because all of a sudden they are getting something out of their new found position.

The system isn't set up to allow people to move up in the organization without becoming part of it.

Well of course its less than 50-30% or what have you...I'm no genious when it comes to politics, but one can see that whenever there is an election going on. The comercials and adds and such. The politicians are naturally trying to make a good image of themselves, and slander the image of their opponent. Once in a while I see the same topic brought up about the same politician, but one version is making him/her look good, and the other is making him/her look bad. So...one of them is lying. I only catch that once in a while though, because when that happens, that makes both people questionable, not just the one trying to win. I'll have to see if I can find examples. I don't see it happen often, but I remember catching something suspicious like that when our last mayor was elected.

Other than that, nothing else really to point out. Though one thing that was said that struck me was that people go in as good and honest people but become corrupt...Really saddens me to say that I believe that to be true as well. Those that don't allow themselves to be corrupted are often the ones that are shoved out of the scene as soon as they can be.
