Since it's Man-Faye, more than likely, and the whole publicity thing has gone to his head and he's just a big prick now...I don't mind what he does...but I'd still say that he should have done it in good taste. Now he's just another fad that I'm waiting to see die.

That's right. Jack has died, after 8 years of existence--six of which were under my ownership--and 136,000 miles, he is now a paperweight. Motionless, full of memories, and sitting at my friend's house.

This might have to be moved to the Video Hut, but yeah. Anyway, I'm retiring his license plate, as it won't be the same to have SUPRNRD on another car. The new car will get BREW NJA...as I've already set it aside with the DMV for whenever I get another car.

Guess it's time to go car hunting.

And, Jack, you will be missed. Always an extension of the messiness of my room, you were a great little car.

Do you have the $1500 it would cost me to rebuilt the transmission, and the additional money for the shot piston, right front brake, engine mount, and interior shampoo and vacuum? No...didn't think so. I don't either. Well, I do, but it's easier to just buy a new used car than it is to salvage my existing paperweight.

And, he's not really dead. He's more like unable to move.

Sony Online Entertainment has merged with Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment. Which means, I'm part of SOE now. So, new opportunities with the merger...possibly. Cool.

I'm on my way to interview for Limelife on Monday for a permanent QA position with their up-and-coming company.

Limelife is paying for airfare and a car to pick me up from/return me to the airport. They're offering a permanent, full-time, benefits package, upper five-figure income to me ($60K to $80K range). The only issue is relocation, of which I have no problem doing. 'Cept for finding adequate housing. And, I still need a car.

The merger could prove to be both a good and a bad thing. Only time will tell. But, I don't have the time to just wait around at $10/hour. I want that better position. But, I do wanna see where Sony is headed before I decide to leave the company.

So, I'm stuck between choosing to stay with Sony where I'm suffering through office politics, being underappreciated, and have yet to be promoted despite being well-qualified, or look for other opportunities which involve relocation. I have plenty of companies to choose from...I love technical job recruiters...but what to do?

Given the situation, what would you do?

Okay, I never said I wasn't going to do the interview...I still am.

But, it is more money. And I wouldn't mind doing the relocation. But, I can move up faster at Sony and work for a well-known company in the industry...

I don't know, I'm weird. I've even gotten an offer from Sony Japan to work on their QA division for Sony Robotics ($120K annually). But, relocation to a whole other country?

I'm building my knowledge, basically. That's why I stay with Sony. It allows me to learn from their mistakes so that when I open my development company five years down the line, I don't commit the same mistakes. In the meantime, I'm just learning and using stuff until someone offers me something better.

Also, I'm a contract employee, so telling my employer that I'm being offered better pay and a higher position doesn't affect him. His advice is to take the position, since he's in no position to dictate my pay.

(Because I can) Get a job. Or, be me and have them continually offer you work that you continually refuse. Mow a lawn. Wash a car. Prostitute yourself. Sell something on eBay. Sell back a few games to GameStop or something. Get a job.

In order to survive based on the cost of living of Japan, I would need $240,000 a year to be equivalent to a $65K/year salary in Los Angeles. Basically, $120,000 a year in Japan is pretty much equivalent to a $25K a year job in Los Angeles. It averages out because the cost of living is significantly higher in Japan than that of Los Angeles.

As is the job in the bay area, which is a higher cost of living than that of Los Angeles. Not to mention, I'd have to factor relocation costs (plane alone is in the thousands for airfare), food, rent, transportation, utilities, phone, internet and every other little factor. In the end, I'd still be making just enough to barely skate by...but I'd be in Japan.

The same thing with the Bay Area, but not as extreme. I can survive there on whatever over $50K salary they'll offer. It's mostly a relocation cost issue (and leaving behind friends and family), but if it were just an easy change of work and everything else just fell into place, I'd be writing this from Japan.

But, alas, life is not that easy. There are other underlying factors that I haven't explained. For one, my car is now paralyzed and dying (battery is still good). I have credit card debts (about $3K), school loans ($20K or so, and mounting), schooling (even though its mostly all online now), parent to maintain (I maintain the bills and utilities, not her), and all of my incidentals on top of that.

So, for my knowledge, I feel that $60K is my minimum. My recruiters say they can find me jobs that will easily pay me $105K a year with a $10K signing bonus. It's like I'm an athlete of some sort...well, desk jockey I guess...but yeah. But, there are a few factors involved.

The interview tomorrow will help me decide. And, Sony Japan would have been easy. That one would just be an inter-company transfer. But, I wanna stay in the gaming division, not the robotics division. And, almost all of Sony's game development is down in California.

Excerpt from "I Wanna Be A Republican" a feature concert film starring the Kinsey Sicks. A parody of "We Are The World" spoofing George W. Bush and the Republican party. See if you can spot Cyndi Lauper, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and more.

Ahh, makes me proud to be lame sometimes and vote as a different party (sometimes making one up) each time.

Being illiterate is one thing (the inability to read), but being unable to comprehend is another. So, maybe you should pick a dictionary from time to time as well.

And, it's not being ignorant either, I'm just an ass.

But, GameStop is like the overparanoid-parents solution to selling stuff on eBay. Granted, the resale value is lame, but it is something. And "tradein" isn't a word. "Trade-in", however, is.

Store credit is lame, unless you're planning on buying more games. Since you're not, you're better off with a yard sale, doing random odd jobs for people around town or your neighborhood, or selling your crap to GameShit.

As the adult decision for people with their own bank accounts, I've seen eBay (and LiveJournal and equivalent communities) do wonders for people. Maybe a solution when you break free from the parental units...you know, failing actually having a job. Or some kind of part-time job. Could it be that you're too selective right now?

If you haven't got the experience and skills to back up your dream or tolerable jobs, maybe its time for stuff that you haven't considered. I took that risk with QA in gaming industry, and now, I'm valuable enough to pull in the positions willing to give me $65K a year and benefits. And, I've only been doing QA for about a year.

But, that's just me. McDonald's wasn't looking?

Since I don't know how old you are (and too lazy to click on your name), I can't fully address your situation. But, finding a job is tough. At one point in my life, it was even tough for me.

If you are 18 and in California, there's always the $9-$15/hour QA positions with gaming companies. Other than that, I'd say you're SOL unless you take up tutoring or odd jobs to acquire $55.

Hell, I'm even tempted to just PayPal you the $55 if it'll shut you up.

You do realize that companies can always say they're not hiring because its more acceptable than "you're a dumbfuck and we refuse to employ and play you". And, I was flown out to Phoenix for an interview with Southwest Airlines, only to receive not one--but two--letters telling me that I wasn't what they were looking for and I could only reapply after a year--exactly--had gone by. Got a free trip to Arizona out of it, though. Still had to pay for car rental, hotel, food and gas.

I'm reopening this challenge as Thexare needs money, and I'm pretty sure nobody will get it. Grand prize: Screw actually doing what the message says. Just post the decoded message, and I'll give you $75 (check, PayPal, cash through certified mail, money order).

I have the answer, however, I don't remember how to decode it. Maybe, I was smart enough to write it down somewhere. Oh, well...have fun.

Nevermind, it only took me a few minutes of studying the code to figure out how I decoded it.

Hint: Try searching for "ascii to text converter" on Google.

I was planning on leaving her behind, and I'd be living in Menlo Park, which isn't too bad. The commute to/from work is a straight shot up the 101 if I get a place in San Jose somewhere.

The interview went well, and I really like the company. Just gotta see if they feel the same. I may have seemed a little scattered during the interview, but I was operating on no food (outside of airline peanuts) and very little sleep.

We'll see. My mom is fine with me moving out on my own as long as I plan on eventually moving her up with me.

The company spent a good chunk of change to shuttle me to/from the airport in Lincoln Towncars and the flight there and back--including a last-minute change in departure time on the way back.

But, I took the video camera, so it'll be in the next update of "Adventures of a Gay Man".

I'm not sure if it will work that way. Previous attempts have told me that I'd be better off just taking the other job. I figure, work my way up with the start-up, and if they take off--I'll stay there. If not, get the title and experience and reapply with Sony after a year or so.

I don't know if people notice, I don't think they do. I don't really care if you do, frankly.

But, a quick summary of the past few weeks:

Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment has merged with Sony Online Entertainment to become SOE-LA. They haven't moved in yet, but will be in the next week or so. I will not be there for that, however.

I went up to Menlo Park for the interview with Limelife, Inc. Upon return, I received an offer from them at $16/hour as a contractor for a year. I declined their offer. Sony recriprocated with an offer for a non-position as the assistant to the assistant producers. Um, no. Limelife counteroffered with $18/hour as a full-time employee with benefits. Good-bye Sony.

I have two weeks left at Sony, and then I start the new position the following Monday on the 6th, which means I'm moving up to the San Jose area. This also means that I need a car. And a $250 deposit for an apartment.

I found an apartment. It's a small studio, but it'll have to do until I can pay off my credit card debts and find something better. I'm looking at raking in about $3000 per month before tax. In addition to that, I still need a car.

My car, Jack, is going to Pick Your Part or is gonna be traded in to the next dealership for parts. The transmission is totally shot. I'm looking at a 1996 Honda Odyssey with about 84K mile right now for about $7000. It exceeds my budget by two thousand dollars, but I can handle it with the expected low rent I'll have.

That doesn't mean I won't check the board. Just means, it'll be less and less over the next few months. I've also started my online schooling, and that demands 12 hours of my time per week online, along with the time spend offline working on homework.

So yeah...
