YES! Do get the series! I adore it much more than the movie. Sorry if you prefer the movie to the series in the end.
|
Jayne love! I'm actually amused by my result since it's been a while since I've watched either and was going off of memory which wasn't so bad. Huzzah for scoring better than girls my age.

I'm worried now, actually. I need to fill the math requirement next semester and I'm hoping I test well on the next assessments.
|
I can't find my past results and I think it placed me in like math 130 or something. I'm not sure. I took the easiest test they were offering and did all right on it, but from what I hear if you take the hardest test and do mediocre at it, you get placed in the higher classes. I'm hoping that I get it done next semester. Anyone who's transferred over to the CSUs have any advice?

I figured since the Anime section is listing manga, despite it being a bumped thread (), let's list what DVDs we've got. Why the hell not?
|
I'm not at home at the moment, but I'll list it when I can. Everybody else start without me. (Last edited by Rogue on 08-23-06 11:01 PM)

So I'm watching the news this morning. In Los Angeles we have this "wonderful" morning show called 'Good Day L.A.' with the most obnoxious news anchors who spend most of their time, and ours, going over celebrity gossip than actually discussing the world events and such. Most of the time that I end up watching this program, it's because I simply turned on the TV and went off to work on the computer without noticing what I'm watching until it's nearly over.

While typing out a few e-mails to my magazine staffers, I kept noting that Tom Cruise's name came up several times throughout the show. Apparently he's been kicked from Paramount for jumping on that couch on Oprah ages ago. WHO... THE FUCK... CARES? Look, I understand that celebrities have public lives. Some of them revel in it while others hide from it. But it's the public's interest that fuels the need for the media to come running whenever Britney Spears is seen with K-Fed or whenever Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are going baby clothes shopping. Why do people demand these super market tabloids? What is so interesting about the lives of movie stars? Is it not enough that they have highly over-rated occupations? As I write this, while trying to check my e-mail, the front page news bit was a picture of Tom Cruise with "Star Burning Out?" written next to it. ENOUGH! Enough about Mel Gibson! Enough about Bennifer, Brangelina, TomKat, Nicole Kidman and whatever flavor of the month guy she's seeing now! Does the public really think we care what soup they picked up at Ralph's? Are we that interested in the private lives of these public figures? It astonishes me that when these people do anything it's such a blow for people. A girl in my English 3 class today, actually said that when she found out that Mel Gibson arrested for a DWI she almost cried. Huh?! Someone --ANYONE-- explain to me why a 10.0 earthquake on the other side of the world doesn't constitute breaking news while the moment's notice that Tom Cruise named his newborn Suri is.

So they did decide to demote Pluto. Wow. I heard they were thinking about it and calling all the other so-called planets that they found "Plutons."
|
Well, first they rehaul the food pyramid and now there are more planets, though less are considered such. Man...

Normally these threads are closed immediately because the staffers don't want negative feelings between members to permeate the board, but I feel you deserve an honest answer on this.
|
I personally think you're cool in that we share a lot of interests and you're eager to talk about them. I think the problem lies in that some think your posts are a bit on the spammy side and they want you to try to post more relevantly. I can't speak for those whom you IM, especially since it's matters off the board and I don't understand how they are relevant here. Seriously why ask to have someone banned because they contact you on a media that can be blocked with nothing else said? But I digress. I just think you need guidance in your posting. You have a lot of potential and you keep active. Don't let what people might think get you down. Just post the best you can and don't worry about the rest.

I'm probably going to go see this, but mostly because I really like Jason Statham. Mostly for his earlier Guy Ritchie film roles, but still, he simply kicks ass.
|
They were doing promotions for it at Comic-Con this year and the overall thing they were pushing was that Jason was starring in it. It's amusing how they push films to geeks.

If you've ever seen the movie Fight Club or read the book, I'm sure you've heard the term used before. For those who haven't a clue as to what I'm referring to it means meeting people at random, maybe talking with them and then you never see them again. Example: The people whom you sit next to on a plane or someone who might be standing in line behind you at the super market. They're all around you. People whom you have brief contact with, say a few words, maybe exchange e-mail addresses, who knows. Getting a single serving of them, if you will.
|
We don't really get to know people any more, matter of fact we sometimes wall ourselves in to make sure we never have to speak with anyone else. It's quite odd really. There's really not much human contact any more because everything's just boiled down to the minimal of what we have to say to each other to smoothly go on without really talking or feeling each other. I do the same, even though I'm aware of it. I suppose I feel intimidated by people. I'm often the person who hesitates to partner up with people for group assignments in class. I abhor phones. It's just strange. Anyway, what's the most interesting random contact you've ever had with a person? A couple years ago, when I was answering phones for the ad manager at our paper, I got a call from a guy who wanted to place an ad for a charity concert he was putting together that would be headlined by A Perfect Circle among many other bands. Not long into the call, somehow the discussion turned into asking each other how their day was going and then winded down to wanting to live in houses like the ones in Lord of the Rings. It was just odd because normally people only call to leave a message and then promptly hang up, but for nealy an hour we were just chatting about anything and everything despite not knowing anything else about the other person and eventually we traded phone numbers. Of course he and I never really spoke again, but it was a moment when I realized there was another living, breathing person out there and not just faceless extras in this so-called world of becoming. Nothing personal, guys, but this thread doesn't have much more of a purpose that couldn't have been said in a PM, so this thread is deamed close-worthy.
|
Incidentally, the problem will be looked into and henceforth remedied. Your feedback is appreciated.

Heh, looks like you've got the right outlook, Cairoi.

I've become more open with talking to people, but mostly I seem to have the most long and out there conversations with homeless people. It's really a humanizing eye-opener to speak with them. Your story reminded me of all the times I'd go to conventions and end up singing Dr. Demento songs with people in line. It's only happened on two different occasions, but it was really amusing when it would go on. One of those you-had-to-be-there things. Heh. When I used to work for my Rocky Horror cast, and hang out in the dance pit before the show, regulars used to bring me virgins to dance with and it usually involved talking to them about it being their first time and whatnot. Most of the time I never really spoke with them again, but Rocky's one of those places where random people just hug you just because. LOTS and LOTS of random touching and affection there. On a couple different occasions, guys used to approach me and undo, then re-tie my corset. Actually it also reminds me of this time I came to the show after the masquerade this year and people kept approaching me to talk about my costume. One girl wearing nothing but chainmail came up to me and started complimenting my costume and half hit on me. I told her she looked even better and asked if she didn't mind if I took her picture. She immediately started posing and wanted me to take a lot of pics. Here's one of them:

Often times the best answers you'll ever get from people are when you don't even ask a question. Say things like, "Tell me about..." or "Let's hear more about..." Seriously when you do that, they don't feel so constrained by the question. Example: How're your parents? They're okay. Tell me about your home life. Oh it's all right. My parents are divorced and they have kids with other people. I live mostly with my mom and my younger brother blah blah blah blah... Also by getting them to talk, you can elaborate more on things that sound interesting like, "Oh! Tell me more about that!" EDIT: I should also say don't ask yes or no questions. They leave you with not much to go off of. Also, try to avoid stereotypical (BORING) questions. No, "What's your favorite color?" or "If you were an animal, what would you be?" Those don't get you anywhere. (Last edited by Rogue on 08-26-06 10:51 PM)

Damn, the voting's over already? Every year, I mean to vote and always never get around to it. >.<
|
EDIT: I wonder if next year, we could work out a mass-PMing system that reminds people to vote. (Last edited by Rogue on 08-26-06 11:08 PM) (restricted) | (restricted) | |
