| Well, life's better than the alternatives anyway.
Earning barely over minimum wage in a part-time retail job, but my coworkers aren't too bad. I go back and forth between being somewhat accepting of this town and hating it with a fury that would have demons cowering before me. Despite riding my bike on the sidewalk, drivers still manage to nearly hit me on the few occasions where I have to cross a road - meanwhile, I have occasional douchebag pedestrians bitching about me riding on the sidewalk, telling me I should ride my bike in the goddamn road risking getting run over by these half-blind and 100% retarded drivers. However, for someone who doesn't drive, I live in a very convenient area; Food Lion is just a short 250m tops from here, Gamestop is about a mile at most, and even my job can't be more than two miles. I'm still as much of a hermit as I was in Winchester, though with a different reason. I was a rather fucked up kid in school, and in a town this size, people don't forget, and they very rarely give second chances. Strongly related to the above is that I have completely given up on being a substitute teacher (possibly later becoming a full-time teacher) until I'm out of at least this county and possibly even out of this state. In recent months, I've realized just how fucked up my extended family is. I'll put it this way: the details won't even be shared privately with most people, and it's not only a matter of shame. Brain bleach is necessary, even for me, and I normally remain unfazed by fucked-up things. I am getting out of the house more often, though I talk to as few people as possible. I don't know if this is really an improvement or not. I've been out of school since I finished tenth grade, due to moving. I didn't want to deal with more shit from another school system after all the bullshit Shenandoah County Public Schools put me through, so I went ahead and got a GED. In hindsight, my life could've gone much better up to this point... and sadly, at this point my resources for changing it are extremely limited. Which brings me to a particularly relevant image:  |

This sidewalk has a shitload of bumps in it and things sticking up (including what looks like part of a pipe sticking up two or three inches), and is just generally a pain in the ass for anyone not walking, whether it's my bike or this town's numerous wheelchairs, and these fucking retards running the town wasted their money adding brick crosswalks to the goddamn roads just to make it look nice instead of fixing an actual goddamn problem! So yeah. Fuck you, Woodstock, VA. (despite all this, it's a very convenient place for me to live. It just pisses me off.) EDIT: While it's on my mind: Fuck you, bathtub drain stopper. Bet you never heard that one before. It's a metal disc that's attached to the drain. This disc has a slightly sharp edge. Not enough that brushing against it would hurt... but enough that if, hypothetically, your foot slips and slams into it, it would hypothetically result in enough blood to require about a dozen sheets of toilet paper to fully clean up if you were to leave the bathtub to, for example, look for a band-aid. Anyway. Morons that jump around and bounce basketballs indoors in a second-floor apartment. Idiot drivers who freak out every time it snows, even though it snows every goddamn year and they should damn well be used to it by now. People who park their cars half in the driveway and half on the sidewalk. People who tell me to ride my bike in the road. Yeah, you first. Customers who can't read the "This Register Is Closed" sign. Those who genuinely can't read it don't bother me as much, though the apparent first-generation immigrants who don't seem to speak English at all are usually not a problem in this regard, strangely enough. It's always the people who I know can read because they're using either a debit/credit card (which requires reading the display on the card machine) or writing a fucking check. You know what? People. Just... people.
