| Since I didn't put in Sunday, here's that update:
Went back with Zoso to the big Pow Wow at the college. Three cheers for the many, many dancers out there in the 94 degree heat (Long Beach was the hottest spot in L.A.) and danced their hearts out wearing so many layers of traditional clothing. Speaking of which, the record high for Long Beach used to be 87 (set in 1954), but so much for that. At the Pow Wow, we had Navajo tacos, which is pretty much a typical taco with its usual fixin's (beef, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatos), but served on Indian fry bread instead of a regular tortilla. Really good. Afterwards, I hung out with Zabuza while he was down here. We went to LACMA, drove around Santa Monica and then had Greek food for dinner. We met up with Zoso and then hung out at kittybob's work for a while. The upcoming week should be amusing. It's Smithsonian Week in Long Beach. |

Incidentally Athens and Sparta, known rivals, banded together against Persia for this. While the mere 300 men were really only legend, there were a couple thousand Spartans. They fought to the finish in the three day fight, allowing the rest of Greece to retreat, build up their forces and attack. And the battle of Marathon was the battle before Thermopylae. Legend has it, the runner sprinted the full 26 miles (the length of our now traditional marathon today) from Marathon to Athens and died of exhaustion after delivering the message. The intent of the fighting with Persia was also a little off in the movie. Really the source of it all was the Ionian Revolt in Persia and the Greeks burning Sardis, the temple of the goddess Kybele. In retaliation, and generations later, the Persians descended upon Greece, eventually leading up to the legendary battle portrayed in the movie. Truly Themistocles, the commander of the Athenian navy, is the biggest unsung hero here, but then again the people who set out to create 300 weren't out to make a historically sound film, but one badass action-packed visual feast. It's sort of like with Troy, how that one was fudged in every sense of the word. The war lasted 10 years, but in that movie it last seemingly a week. Meh. A friend pointed out that just before Leonidas set out with his men, he was carrying a shield, but then a second later the shield disappeared and his wife and son were holding it. |

She's obviously not familiar with half of the sales made at comic conventions of countless of celebrities.

| Today is not only international Pi Day (3/14... 3.14... get it?), but as one month after Valentine's Day it's also the unofficial and Internet-spawned holiday Steak and Blowjob Day.
Amusingly enough, I didn't realize about the latter one until calling a friend, wanting to hang out, and she informed me that she was busy cooking for the holiday. Didn't realize people avidly celebrate this holiday. My LJ friend's page is filled with people going on about their steak dinners tonight.

| You know that classic song you hear at weddings and graduations all the time now? Yeah, that one that's kinda catchy.
Well here's a rant about it. I can't express how much I sympathize since that Vitamin C had me going nuts through high school. It's one of the songs that plays on a loop on my goddaughter's baby swing and it's always playing when I visit kittybob. Ironically, this song really does follow you everywhere. While on a roadtrip with Zabuza a couple years ago, this song was playing in a music box in this old. haunted house we visited on a tour. |
