$65 million for a relatively mediocre Star Trek observation? CNN article It's likely that this is all a mock feud or even just a ploy for attention, but this radio host hasn't given any statements or made any comments other than this one. Will update with news as it comes. |

Upon seeing that and not knowing anything about it prior to watching it (other than that my LiveJournal friends page has been spammed with "Don't Taze Me, Bro" products for the past couple days), I felt a bit livid that someone was expressing an opinion and asking a question and for it was arrested and mistreated.
Then I saw the video that captures 5 minutes before that vid: Do I still feel like it warranted an arrest and tazing? No. Yes, he was causing a scene and being somewhat over-dramatic, but it was a public forum and he was asking some serious questions which he should have been allowed to hear the answers to without being treated as such. Insulting or not, is this a sign of the times? Speak out and be stifled? Perhaps I'm missing something? EDIT: Found another video which captures more of it: I'm somewhat appalled that no one stood up for his right to speak. Even Kerry. He allowed it to happen. This was the man who could have been president. Nothing. To quote blogger Brad Friedman, "The First Amendment doesn't include a Politeness Clause as far as I'm aware." The lack of outrage reminds me (and many others, I'm sure) of the poem First They Came.... (Last edited by Rogue on 09-20-07 10:26 PM) |

I remember being really into Elizabeth, the first movie, when it came out the same year as Shakespeare in Love. I was horribly annoyed that Gwenyth Paltrow won Best Actress over Cate Blanchett (ironically, both ladies starred opposite Joseph Fiennes, who wasn't nominated for anything).
Anyway, I look forward to this one. Costumes, sets, and such: exquisite. Historical accuracy: optional. (Last edited by Rogue on 09-20-07 11:01 PM) |

While this is probably a grab for attention, maybe even a chance to go on Colbert Report, it's rather shoddy at best.
Checking this guy's Wikipedia entry, some wrote: "As of September 2007, Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert is attempting to sue Uygur for $65 million with the claim that Uygur time traveled ahead to steal his gag comparing Republican Presidential candidates to Star Trek Klingons." Hilarious. It would be funny if it were confirmed that Stephen did it, but he's supposedly banned from editing Wikipedia. |

See, that was when the believability went out the window for me. I wondered why they were suddenly splicing Queen Elizabeth I with Joan of Arc, but oh well.
It's funny. A couple years back, I remember pondering on it being cool if there were a sequel made for Elizabeth because I wanted to see her dealings with Philip II and Sir Francis Drake, but hey, close enough with Raleigh. |

The thing you have to realize when you see something like that--someone's getting off to it.
Right. Now. |

Originally posted by Danny Phantom From what I gathered it wasn't really saying that all nice guys are insecure losers, but mostly the ones who complain about girls leaving them for dicks. I've dated nice guys, and am currently dating one. A past one that I was with was jealous and over-protective of me in EVERY situation. If we were out somewhere and a man spoke to me, more than just "Do you want fries with that?" (hell, he got mad at a guy at a fast food restaurant for that once) he'd yell at the guy, pull me aside and demand to know what that was about. It got to the point that I would go places with him, stare at the ground, and he would still insist that some guy walked passed me and I smiled at him (because smiling at someone means infidelity). But this was also the guy that when taking me to a store and I happened to pick something up just to look at it, he'd insist that he buy it for me as a present. I always refused, but confusingly enough he always complained whenever he paid at restaurants. I might add, the guy was about to turn 30 and I was 18 and just started college at the time. Yes, I know. The age difference. But there were times I simply felt like I was the older one. Older doesn't mean maturer. When I dumped him after a month of dating, he called me a "selfish bitch." He then phoned a month later because he was having family issues. I invite him to come by so we can talk and suddenly he's all compliments and wanting me to spend New Year's eve with him, alone in his apartment. Despite his saying he'd understand if I already had plans, which I did, he called me a "worthless cunt" and we've never spoken since. This is also the guy that will talk your ear off about how much he loved me and how no one will love me more or the way he did and so on and so forth. He'd constantly hinted about wanting to go to Vegas. When I jokingly said I wouldn't marry him, he'd shout the oh-how-I-hate-the-phrase-so-fucking-much "What's THAT supposed to mean?" I couldn't joke with him. He took things way too literally. The nice guy I'm with now doesn't buy me flowers. He doesn't get mad if I talk to other guys (hell, his best friend constantly comes to visit me when he's not around). He laughs when I jokingly call him names. Though he could be considered shy at times, he has so much self-confidence and he's the most patient man I've ever met. He goes along with me on my crazy adventures, but he's assertive when it matters. Guaranteed if/when we break up we'd still be best friends. Most nice guys that I've come across would probably make really good matches out there, but often they aren't assertive. They want to be nice and think things will happen to them as opposed to making them happen. Girls don't just fall out of the sky and into your lap. But if they do, treat 'em right, but treat them as an equal--not like they're wearing a tag that says "Property of..." That first guy I mentioned was a toy-collecting geek and he acted like I was one of his collectibles that no one else should see or touch. A little self-confidence goes a long way. Triple post score.
Really I post to this thing because it actually keeps track of what I did and so on. Blah. Last weekend: Friday: Voidcrush had a show at the Relax Pub in Hollywood. Got some really good pictures. Afterwards, we all watched movies at Marty and Becky's, drinking some, and winding down. Saturday: Voidcrush had another show at the Winchester Inn out in Hemet. It went over REALLY well, and not just for a show out in BFE, but it was probably one of their best gigs yet. That night sat up past 3 a.m. at Marty and Becky's having conversations with Marty and Rick, the new guy. Sunday: ANOTHER show for Voidcrush. This time at a naughty nurse club called The Good Hurt in Venice Beach. That Monday, after spending the weekend somewhat in pain over a troublesome wisdom tooth, had said tooth pulled. This past weekend: Friday: After finally getting some rain here in the L.A./Long Beach area, Zoso and I hung out with Pat (Junkie) and then we went to see Sound & Fury perform Cyranose, their take on the Cyrano de Bergerac story. Beforehand, we went to the county art museum to kill some time and then took a stroll around the La Brea tar pits in the dark with it raining a little on us. Saturday: Spent the day going all over L.A. with my mom and Zoso. Went to the central Library, LACMA and drove around a bit. Seriously thank whatever deity there is for the rain. It seems to have cleansed everything to some degree. |

Uwe Boll's amazingly strong ability to make bad video game movies continues with the Postal series.
Oddly enough I actually looked forward to this since I've played the game a little and who could really mess up a game where all you do is menial tasks that somehow go wrong and you end up killing everyone? Well it's coming out this week. Not going to see it 'til it hits the cheap theaters near the end of its run, but considering how Boll's films go and since there hasn't been much advertising for it, that might just be soon. Anyway, here's a "secret" opening sequence. Not sure if it really is the opening or not, but we'll find out eventually: (Last edited by Rogue on 09-25-07 04:04 PM) |

I've always thought Serj was cool though a little on the preachy side. Oh well, that's his style.
I found this last week, thought I'd post it here: (Last edited by Rogue on 09-24-07 05:11 PM) |

Just found out Terry Pratchett will be appearing at the Torrance Borders tonight at 7.
|
I called Junkie to ask if he was interested. He said he's doing laundry. Anyone else interested? Zoso and I are going.

Originally posted by Vulkar Here, our cheap theaters play movies for $2. It's cheaper than renting a movie that's just come out around here (granted the place I go for movies charges $1.99, but there's still sales tax and so on. But I digress...). I'm curious enough to spend $2. Better to lose 2 than 10 and feel cheated.

I do have to say, though, that those things that Serj gets preachy about are often topics that need to be addressed as it is.

Since his former band members were Armenian and I think he was born in the area (though his last name is Armenian), he's been fighting for people to recognize the horrors of the Armenian Genocide and that it should not be denied.

So 20? Haha, 41-year-olds don't want to date you anymore. You should have married a man with a yacht at 19, but noooo now you're getting old. Crows feet and all. Wait... This is Nagis? Shit. You'll be fine. You don't have a vagina. Well, um... happy birthday?

The funny thing is Postal's one of those games that when translated to film can't really be ruined because it's so fucked up anyway.
|
The game doesn't have much more plot than you are this guy whose wife gives you a list of things to do over the course of the day (get milk, return library books, etc). The catch is that every time you try to do something on the list, someone either tries to prevent you from doing it or the place is attacked and so on. Seriously, there's no real point to the game. No movie could go wrong trying to capture the spirit of the game--senseless violence, dry action movie jokes, shoving your gun up a cat's ass and using the cat as a silencer, and so on. It's a tacky game with what looks like an even tackier movie. Relax. The so-called official trailer:
