Well, the thing about writing short stories is that you aren't always writing it just to get published. Honestly, a lot of the things I've written were purely just so that I could have more practice, play around with ideas that have entered your head.

So if he's not going to get it professionally published, then in my mind, there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with writing it anyway. If it improves his writing ability, and helps him move forward with his ideas, then is there really anything wrong with not being completely original?

Not to go too off topic, but I think that writing only for other people, like Elara was indicating, and only to be seen can do nothing but cripple the writer. If you're going to write a story, write it for yourself, because your story speaks to you, and only after that can you even think about publishing it. If your story doesn't effect you, the writer, how can you expect the readers to get anything out of it?

But back on topic, I like the zombies idea, although I think it could be a stronger ending if George dies instead, only as he realizes that the values he tried to instill in Lenny will never stick, thanks to his own bad example. He dies realizing that he should have done more.

Yeah, its not the same story as Of Mice and Men, but who cares? xD.
