Originally posted by Captain Tightpants Yeah, for the most part, when I approached her to ask for her insurance information, she ignored me and drove away. The temptation of hitting her car was almost too great for me to stifle it, but I figured if there was a lawsuit I didn't want to give her ammunition for a counter-suit. When my dad finally came out of the bank and I told him about it, and he saw the dent with scratches on the side, he was pissed. I mentioned that I got her license plate and description of her car written down, but then he started saying things like, "What the hell are we going to do with that?" I said there was always running a plate or something and he pretty much just said we should drop it since he really didn't need the stress of this all right now. It reminds me of the time he got scammed over eBay. He bought a car that was stuck in process of being shipped. My dad had paid $1000 for it to be shipped and the woman had sent documents showing that she'd paid that money to the shipment company and told my dad that they must be jerking him around. However when my dad called the guys who were supposed to deliver the car, they sent him the real documents showing that she really only put down $100 of the $800 necessary for it to be delivered (so she'd already ripped him for $200 were she to have actually paid in full). So my dad, wanting the car he'd paid for, put down the extra $700 for it. And when the fucking thing finally showed up, it looked NOTHING like the pictures. Parts of it were ripped out. The interior smelled like someone had been chain-smoking in the car for the last 20 years (they'd sworn up and down that no one had smoked in the car). It was a fucking paperweight piece of shit. And what did my dad do? NOTHING. He'd asked eBay to investigate it, which they didn't, despite their promises of protecting buyers. They did ban her account, however. That still doesn't stop her from making a new one. I told him to call the police or sue her or something, but he said that would involve flying out to Minnesota to fight her. I can't tell you how much the whole thing made my blood boil. It's in the past and all, but it was absolute bullshit. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-22-07 06:03 AM) |

I do. Right after she got out of her car and walked toward the bank, I got out and wrote down the number and make and model of the car.
She seemed to only absent-mindedly apologize after I sat up and glared at her through my passenger side window. When I tried to hand the information off to my dad, he insisted that I not give it to him as he was just in a blind rage about it, and didn't want to talk about it any more. That whole day, we were supposed to be taking care of a lot of business and errands, but things kept blowing up in our faces. Like for example, I had to go by my college to pay for the one class I'll be taking in the Spring semester, but they weren't doing anything until noon, so we'd have to shift everything around and come back later. On top of which it was raining most of the day. While I love the rain and all, it's annoying driving in it since people around here drive even worse than they do on clear days. I don't know what it is, but they speed, cut in front of you more, and just act like assholes in general. Furtherly, we had to go all over town looking for a ball of Edam cheese for my mother's Christmas party. FIlipino tradition, or at least with my family. The Dutch store by my house didn't have it. My dad had also been needing to meet up with clients and finish a lot of paperwork at home. When my dad gets mad he's unreasonable to deal with, and he's even worse when he's stressed out. So in short, I just wrote this up here to blow of my own steam. Since the title's pretty open-ended feel free to tack on your own annoyances and people you wish you could be yelling at right now. Since I posted about this, I'm not feeling quite so angry any more. Even though this morning I felt over the side of my dad's car, seeing the two small holes and scratches, and the whole matter's somewhat upsetting, I figure if he doesn't want to do anything it wouldn't be worth it for me to fight her. She'll die in a fire, or something, in my head. Ah, there's that inner peace I was looking for. |

As the sirens went off, Cally looked up at George who looked back at her.
"I'm very sorry, Katie, I'll have to call you back. Something very urgent has just come up. Cheerleaders wanting their acne Photoshop'd out, you know." She quickly hung up, stood from her chair and went to George, who turned toward the door and both of them hurried out. A tall and relatively-thin male approached Eddie. He was wearing medical scrubs that matched Eddie's own. "Good 'den, young squire! Might I join thy escape party?" (Last edited by Rogue on 12-23-07 01:01 AM) |

I'm definitely getting clothes. Specifically clothes that will not fit or be considered "wearable." My aunt for the past 10 years has been getting me clothes she bought in the clearance section of the local clothing holes (Marshall's, Ross, T.J. Maxx, etc).
|
I also know since I was putting the presents she dropped off under the tree and mine was a garments box that was really soft inside. I'm thankful to be getting anything at all, don't get me wrong, and honestly I don't really give anyone outside of my friends and immediate family an idea of what I'm into (could also be since I never really see anyone outside of those mentioned), but it would be nice to be given a choice. I think my mom's just decided to give me a gift card. Dunno to where. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-24-07 02:00 AM)

"Weapons?" Cally said suddenly deep in thought.
|
Being a hired gun for the last 14, 15 years had taught Cally a few things. 1. Kill the women first. A female terrorist has to work 8 times harder than her male counterpart to be taken seriously in her trade. 2. Don't get attached. And 3... Instantaneously rifles, uzis, and handguns dropped out of thin air onto the ground surrounding the group. ...Learn how to mass produce the same guns very quickly. George looked down, picking up a Mark XIX Desert Eagle 5.0, and said, "Got a thing for the Isrealis, do you, Henry Ford?" "Hana really knew what she was talking about," Cally said picking up a rifle. Hey all, just checking in from Phoenix, Arizona on Zoso's grandmother's computer. It's about the temperature one would expect just before it's going to snow or something (checking the current medi outlets in the area, the temp at the moment is 30 degrees F. Yeah, not very low compared with where a lot of you are, but the Cali people I'm with a crying their eyes out it's so cold).

This Christmas was pretty sweet. My cousin and her husband from Sacramento came down to visit with her three children. In our culture they're considered my nephews and niece (not just second cousins) and I hardly ever get to see them, so it was really nice. Their oldest son, who's going on 13 in a week, wanted to see L.A. since he never gets to when he visits so we showed him around town on Christmas eve. He's somewhat sheltered and had never really seen bars on windows or homeless people rioting for blankets and soup at shelters. ![]() Since we spent a good amount of time running around Little Tokyo looking for some manga he'd been wanting and since he seemed into Naruto I gave him a few of the DVDs. His sister's really into Harry Potter, so I gave her my leather-bound collector's edition of the first book. Anyway, my gift haul this year: - iPod shuffle from my Aunt Beth (along with a gray zip-up jacket from Pala Casino that smells HEAVILY of cigarette smoke. My aunt is sort of a high-roller and hits all of the casinos and then buys her Christmas presents in the casino giftshops. She's also a chain smoker who always gives smoke-smelling clothes as presents). - $90 and a Starbucks giftcard from my parents. - The usual assortment of lotions and a photo album from my cousin, Carrie. - $25 Victoria's Secret giftcard from Aunt Evelyn (She's given me VS cards for the past 3 Christmases and I have yet to use any of them. Nothing ever fits there. ![]() That's all I know of so far. I think my grandmother is giving me a check and I haven't opened any presents here in Arizona yet. I'm pretty sure I'm getting pajama pants Brandon's grandmother made and possibly a quilt that his mother made. Brandon and I are going to wait for each other's birthdays (both of us are next month) to do anything for each other. Although I suppose you could count our presents to each other as going on a couple road trips together before the year's out.

((OOC: Sorry, gang, I'm stuck celebrating Christmas II for the better part of the day today and tomorrow with my boyfriend's family so while I can visit the board to see what's going on with the RP, I can't post anything very long. For the moment, just assume that Cally is out with her Company compadres fighting the good fight to the best of her ability.

As for my other guy...)) As Eddie grabbed the stranger, pulling him into the light, the man's features were more revealed--shoulder-length blond hair that was mostly tied back, though much of his hair had come free of its holder, green eyes, very fair skin, a weak chin, and an otherwise unremarkable nose. He didn't have any visible scars, blemishes, tattoos, piercings, or even any marks on his arms from IVs or injections. The man had something of a confused, if not concerned look about everything, which had certainly not been remedied by Eddie grabbing him. Though after Eddie said what he had, he felt a little more at ease. A little less lost even. As the other man charged their party, the emotion was wiped from the mysterious "Dark Ages" man's face as though he were just dealt a hand for poker. He pulled himself from Eddie's grasp as he went for the pistol. Without a word he turned toward the oncoming brute, putting himself between him and Eddie.

So I'm in Arizona right now. Spent yesterday at Rawhide Wild West town and will be heading down to Tombstone tomorrow.
|
Today's seriously going to be Christmas II around here since Brandon's aunt is coming into town and she insisted that Christmas be put off until she gets here. There's a voice message from me in the Voices of Xeogaming thread here: http://board.xeogaming.net/thread.php?pid=121477&r=1#121477 On our way down to Tombstone we're passing through Tucson and Brandon and I are thinking about renting some machine guns and shooting up some blocks of ice in the desert. Yep, we're just that festive around here.

Yep, I was even thinking of including this as a question I was going to pose in the Voices of Xeogaming thread.
|
In most of California, it's definitely soda. Others here just refer to all carbonated beverages as Coke. Not just colas. We're talking all sodas like Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Sprite, etc. I've always thought this topic rather interesting to discuss ever since I went to a summer camp at Indiana University when I was in high school and there were kids from all over the country there. Fist fights seriously broke out over it with people on each side demanding that one is more correct over the other. It's entirely a regional thing--like prefering Mr Pibb over Dr Pepper. Then again I watched an argument unfurl yesterday in Tombstone, Arizona over the pronunciation of "Pecos." The gunfighters insisted it was "Pay-kohs" while this tourist from Texas demanded that they call it "Peck-us." Strange days.

While I do ask for the particular drink by its name, saying "soda" is usually reserved for cases when you have to say things like "There's some ... in the cooler" or "Do you have any ... ?" or "What kind of ... do you have?"
|
Granted if it's a resaurant, chances are you're going to ask for a "fountain drink" or whatever, but still the question's pretty much asking what you call it when referring to it as a common noun and not proper. ![]()
