| Being born in a poor area determines all that stuff, not just what "race" you are. I'm white, I live in a poor area... I have the same problems. Besides, in case you never bothered to notice, the government and universities offer many scholarships to those of "minority races" such as blacks, asians, and latinos to help them out in getting education.
Interesting fact: the concept of race did not exist until 1492 when the transatlantic slave trade began. Same goes for the term "European". |

| The change of scenery should do you good. Avoiding your old room is not though, that is just prolonging things. You have to put certain memories aside and just see it as your room, where you slept since you were little. The thing about sucking it up and moving on is that no one can really tell you how to do it, it has to come from within you.... from you saying "I'm not going to let this bother me anymore".
And you have not failed at everything. You're still in the Navy and doing good in it, aren't you? That was a goal you have not failed at. Always look at the silver lining of the situation before you let yourself get sucked down into sadness. And that Garden State quote is so true. Great movie. |

| I really like the imagery of the first one, though it gives far less information than the second one. That makes it a very hard choice. I think it would be more of a challenge for you to write it in third person... perhaps you should try altering the second one to that. | ||||||

| People also think that race is arbitrary because they don't see people as black or white, but as human (which is what many of the people here feel).
