I had the stomach flu last week.
Tons of fun. Seriously. Got it from my best friend. Well, one of 'em. Didn't eat anything because I was feeling too nauseous to do so. Threw up a few times. Felt really cold on 80 degree F days. Cold sweats. Going to the bathroom 8 times an hour. Wheeeeee!! The best part? Passing it along to three other people. It's like fucking Christmas only I got to pay it forward with the gift that keeps on giving. (Last edited by Rogue on 03-11-08 11:04 PM) |

After searching all around and hitting up a good chunk of the Andy Samberg fan blogs that keep track of a lot of his videos, I have yet to find a song title or artist for said song.
Frankly I'm surprised you found the video in its entirety since SNL combs video sites for this one in particular. They do supposedly have these on their site, if not NBC's specifically. |

Well it's really not a new topic here. We often have threads to discuss how we all came here and met, but hey I've got nothing against a new posting on the topic.
I used to be a regular on a board very much like this one, called Vizzed Board, where Xeo (then known as MasterSephiroth) was an admin. Elara, WhiteRose, GuardianOni, Junkie, and Zoso all posted over there as well. So did a lot of other people who became off-and-on regulars here. Not long into posting there (a couple months or so), Jon (goes by Lore on this board), my sort of at-the-time boyfriend told me about MasterSephiroth's board, Masters of Darkness, and told me I should drop by and maybe post a little. So I did. Seemed like every time I came on there were 10 people on at the same time posting away. You could write out a post and 5 minutes later there'd be three replies or so. I figured I'd stick around. Wasn't long before Vizzed died, mostly from the reigning flamers over there and lack of activity from anyone who had anything worthwhile to post. And when Lore and I mutually broke it off, I still stuck around to post here. So yeah, my origins here pretty much. |

So I'm a bit confused and concerned. Chris Pine, who'll be playing James T. Kirk in the new Star Trek movie which is going to be a prequel to the original series, is claiming that he's using Han Solo as his inspiration for the part.
Source: http://www.trektoday.com/news/120308_02.shtml Originally posted by Trek Today I'm really hoping this doesn't take a turn like other prequels where the director/producer claims he wants a fresh take on the story so he insists that the actors refrain from watching/reading anything to do with what they're making. I get that James Kirk wasn't always what Captain Kirk was. He had to grow into being that, but, uh, drawing from Star Wars? I don't know. I could see it, but it just strikes me as odd. I'm not one of those Star Trek vs. Star Wars folks. I love both, but you know... yeah. |

Since I haven't really had the chance to sit down and watch an anime for the past 3 years or so, I burned through this series last night and all I can really say is that it's one funny black comedy.
It's rather in your face "Don't get attached to any of these characters." If you watch it completely detached it's just what I'd said above (although for some reason I kept worrying about something happening to the puppy). I'd seen the first episode when it was initially popping up fansubbed (via Junkie, of course) and I was really intrigued. I mean, I kinda go for the violent ones, but it was like Chobits meets Kite or something much harder. Anyway, it's not the greatest series, no, but it's worth the watching if not just for the mindfuck of diclonius split personalities. |

As I'd mentioned in the Elfen Lied thread, I haven't really had the opportunity to watch much anime in the last few years. I'm just not a downloader, I don't feel like paying an unholy amount to rent it (the place I used to do that closed down anyway), and it's gotten too absurdly expensive to buy it.
Anyway, I've been watching what I could find in their entirety on YouTube. Went through Elfen Lied last night and finally started Death Note shortly thereafter. I'd seen the Death Note live action movies and read a good chunk of the manga, but hadn't actually watched the anime series itself. |

Yeah, it's nothing against Star Wars or what this movie will become it's just I would have thought Chris Pine might, you know, maybe watch the original series and draw from Shatner some.
Meh. I'm not watching it for Kirk anyway. It's all about Spock in this one. Mm-hmm. |

Shuyin, sorry I didn't see this post until just now (was off in La-La-Land waiting for the board to come back and didn't realize that lo and behold! Here it was!).

You are indeed correct. They were filming scenes for Starfleet Academy at CSUN. Some spy photos appeared on the web a few days ago. Here's the link on Trek Today: http://www.trektoday.com/news/180308_05.shtml They use the CSUN library for a lot of things (Sky High, etc).

Am currently a little more than halfway through The Banquet. Pretty much it's Hamlet applied to Imperial China with Ziyi Zwang as a Queen Gertrude-like character. It's all right. Not a masterpiece or anything, but it's nice to look at.
|
Before that I watched The Day After Tomorrow. No offense, but that's a terrible movie. In the last day I also watched Stranger Than Fiction, Cool Hand Luke, and Kung Fu Mahjong.

The only reason I'd realized what that day was was because it was printed in my calendar that's on my wall. Interestingly enough this calendar also has "Ostara (Pagan/wiccan)" and the Vernal Equinox printed for tomorrow's holidays along with "Purim (Jewish)" and "Good Friday (Christian)" for Friday and "Holi (Hindu)" for Saturday, followed by, of course, Easter on Sunday. Pretty neat calendar.

I used to go to the Women's Day celebrations Long Beach had that weekend, but then it turned into a raging lesbian event of "We don't need men! Fucking nazis!" over the arts, music, dance and empowerment and I stopped going. It's one thing to go, "Yay, women! We're strong and willing to work side-by-side with men and fight to the finish with our brothers and sisters!" but it's a completely different concept when it morphs into "All men are nothing but sperm donors and we should work for a future where they'll be herded underground and only used for food and semen when we want to reproduce!!" Anyway... /Rant

Update on the reading:
|
All right, read Civil War. It was all right, though I feel a bit disappointed with how it was billed as this big Marvel event and the epic-ness of it is a little dull. Anyway, am reading Persepolis (which was made into an animated movie recently). Pretty much it details the thoughts and experiences of a little girl living in the Middle East, though I'm not sure what country it is. Also I'm getting through the first volume of Yojimbo Usagi. Pretty good. Just wanted to see what people were really into about Stan Sakai. Along with that I'm finally getting through DC's Identity Crisis. I have most of the issues from when the comics first came out a few years ago, but never got to finish the story so I picked it up from the library.

Edward Norton this time will taking on the role of Bruce Banner who'll face off with Abomination this time (or A-Bomb as he calls himself), played by Tim Roth.
|
As I'd mentioned to a few people, apparently they're planning on doing this up like Batman Begins and pretending the previous flick doesn't exist.

Wizard Magazine's been reporting that this may be Angelina Jolie's final action film. Any thoughts?
|
Wanted Exclusive Trailer Anyway, if anyone follows the Top Cow comic you pretty much know what you're in for. Man discovers he's the next in line to lead a group of assassins, thus you're seeing the world through the eyes of supervillains. (restricted) |

Yep, Ryan, I've actually heard arguments about men being the next renewable food source and such. It's crazy, I know, but that's some feminazis for you.
|
And Elara, I just picked it up for $3 at Borders (when you buy your calendars in January they're usually knocked way back from the $12 full price). I think it's called "Haunted Places Around the World." I have a Heroes calendar hanging in one of my bathrooms that I rarely reference (as it's hanging in the bathroom that doesn't get used as often), but it only lists Christian, Jewish and Muslim holidays. I actually was amazed about the Muslim holy days being listed. The world's really changed from just listing Christmas, Easter and Cinco de Mayo on the calendar.

I gotta say I was a bit disturbed in the scene with Lucy's puppy with what those boys did to the poor thing. They thoroughly deserved what they got.
|
Anyway, I do agree about the ridiculous love triangle, more specifically the cousin, Yuka. What the hell was her damage? She seemed really nice at first, then she turned into this jealous heap really quickly. The other thing that was getting to me was how long and drawn out it all was. The series could probably be down in 6 or 7 episodes. Granted you wouldn't feel as deep an attachment to these characters, but hey if you're watching it detached like I mentioned you're not close with them anyway. On a final note, Nyu/Lucy is exactly like Niki/Jessica on Heroes. That is all.

Personally I didn't think Hulk was as bad as people claim it is either, but that's the general public for you. They'll like one thing and hate another just as quickly.
|
But an Edward Norton vs. Tim Roth piece sounds intriguing enough, especially juxtaposed to a Hulk vs. Abomination storyline since both pairs are very much alike one another. |
