Ah, I see.
You wouldn't think so with the first picture. Too feminine a face. |

A student from my college was in downtown Long Beach over the weekend and happened to catch police beating someone on his camcorder.
Yesterday at school police barged into the student's class and demanded the tape. They did not have a warrant and they would not allow him to call his lawyer or make a copy of the tape. The whole time they demanded, "Give us the tape or go to jail!" He gave police the camcorder, but it's still unclear if they got the tape or not. The whole story was told to my newspaper through e-mails and phone calls from students and the teacher in the class. Personally, I'm very pissed off. This is America. We aren't supposed to have gestapo or secret police, but apparently the police can continually believe they are above the law here. I was in a situation like this, not too long ago. While taking pictures of a stolen truck that was used in a high speed chase, police demanded that I give them my camera and delete what pictures I had or I'd be taken in. They had no right to do that as 1) as a member of the press, so long as there wasn't a line placed there to keep me away I can take pictures or be where I please for a story, 2) they have no control over my camera or those pictures, and 3) I was in public and I was not committing a crime. These police that attempted to arrest that student had ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to take anything from him or deny him his rights like that. (Last edited by Rogue on 03-09-05 12:29 AM) |

That's a good question and really I don't know how the police could have known, but police don't just appear in a class room at a random college demanding a videotape and threatening imprisonment.
One thing's for sure, the story's running on the front page of my paper this week. We have the witnesses and all. |

I've been meaning to ask this for the last week, but can we please just delete all of the threads that were started about the "incident"?
It's just a shitload of shame that's just fanning itself around at us--especially the "Forum Deletion" thread. I'd rather delete them, put up our defenses and forget it ever happened. |

The geek in me screamed to do it.
You are the rare, the overlooked, yet incredibly useful dodecahedron: the d12. You are a creative, romantic soul. You often act without thinking, but make up for your lack of plans with plenty of heart. You easily solve problems that stump others, but your answers tend to put you into even deeper trouble. You write long, detailed backgrounds for all your characters, and are most likely to dress up as one or get involved in cos-play. You can be silly at times and are easily distracted by your own day dreams, but are at the end of the day you're someone who can be depended on. |

The story ran on the front page of the local paper this morning and was on a few news broadcasts last night.
Video captures Pine melee Police seek LBCC student's images of fight outside Vault By Kristopher Hanson Staff writer LONG BEACH — A Long Beach City College student showed images Tuesday of a melee he captured on digital video following a recent downtown Long Beach concert by controversial rapper The Game. The digital video recording reviewed by the Press-Telegram shows a series of fights involving more than a dozen men outside of The Vault 350 nightclub on Pine Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Saturday as the Compton performer finished his show. Filmed by video production student Roderick Williams, 40, the images show police breaking up one of the brawls with verbal orders, Tasers and batons — footage he claims officers tried to confiscate Monday after he showed it to classmates and LBCC instructors. "Three cops came to my class (Monday), cornered me outside the front door and told me to hand over the video camera or I was gonna go to jail," Williams said. "I really didn't know what to do at that point, but it just didn't seem legal." Williams, who attended the rowdy hip-hop concert to film footage for the college's cable news program, said he reluctantly handed over his video camera to police, but without the digital video disc. Once officers had the camera, Williams said he walked off before they figured out the disc was not inside. "To be honest, I was nervous," said Williams. "I didn't know what they were going to do to me, so I basically ran off." Police wanted the video footage to review the fights and identify suspects for evidence gathering and to evaluate the officers' use of force, said LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. Police said they learned of the tape after Williams first approached one of their officers and offered to sell them a copy. When the officer told Williams she could not purchase a copy, he allegedly left, and the officer notified investigators, who decided the video was evidence of a crime. Williams denies attempting to show or sell the video to an officer. (Williams was paid a standard freelance rate of $50 by the Press-Telegram Tuesday for the still image of the fight used with this report.) In one scene, several uniformed police officers rush into the intersection at Pine Avenue and Fourth Street to break up a brawl. Police can be heard yelling for the men to stop fighting, and at least one man is seen dropping to the ground after being hit with a jolt from an officer's Taser. The man was taken to a hospital for observation, then arrested. Two other men are filmed being hit with batons as they lie on the ground, though it was unclear from the video what led up to them being struck. Police contend they have a legal right to obtain the footage, but are willing to make Williams a copy. "Knowing that there is evidence on the tape relating to criminal activity that had occurred, we need to have the tape to further our investigation and assist in the prosecution of the individuals arrested," Pratt said. Pratt said that Williams' video camera is available to be picked up from Police Department headquarters at any time. As for the unidentified officers' use of batons and Taser Guns outside the concert, police said they are still reviewing the incident, but use of force in such situations is often required, Pratt said. "Use-of-force incidents are never pretty, but they are sometimes necessary to gain control of a situation," Pratt said. "Our priority is to protect the public. We have no choice but to contain the situation before anyone gets seriously injured." Officers said those shown in the video being subdued by Taser and a baton were arrested for fighting in public, adding that no one has filed complaints against officers in relation to the incident. Williams said he was so upset by his encounter with police that he filed a complaint Tuesday with the department's Internal Affairs Division, alleging officers threatened and harassed him and took his personal property without merit. Police declined to comment on Williams' allegations, citing the investigation into his complaint. At the heart of the dispute is nearly 15 minutes of grainy post-concert footage Williams said he captured after sensing "something was gonna happen." The video shows large groups of men and women at first milling about, then engaging in street brawls outside the concert venue and in an adjacent public parking garage. It was unknown if anyone was hospitalized. Officers arrested several people for fighting and public intoxication outside the concert, where The Game had escalated his verbal assault against his former mentor, superstar 50 Cent. At one point, The Game jumped onstage, ripped off his bulletproof vest and challenged 50 Cent to shoot him, according to witnesses. The two have been feuding publicly for weeks, with The Game claiming a member of 50 Cent's entourage shot an associate Feb. 28 outside a New York City radio station. In that incident, New York police arrived on scene to find a 24-year-old Compton man suffering from a non-life threatening wound. No one has been arrested. Aware of the simmering rap war, Long Beach Police deployed dozens of officers to the Vault 350 on Friday in an effort to prevent further bloodshed. |

It is the year 2005 and Noah lives in the United States.
|
The Lord speaks to Noah and says: "In one year I am going to make it rain and cover the whole earth with water until all is destroyed. But I want you to save the righteous people and two of every kind of living thing on the earth. Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark." In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark.Fearful and trembling, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the Ark. "Remember," said the Lord, "You must complete the Ark and bring everything aboard in one year." Exactly one year later, a fierce storm cloud covered the earth and all the seas of the earth went into a tumult. The Lord saw Noah sitting in his front yard weeping. "Noah." He shouted, "Where is the Ark?" "Lord please forgive me!" cried Noah. "I did my best but there were big problems. "First, I had to get a permit for construction and your plans did not comply with the codes. I had to hire an engineering firm and redraw the plans. "Then I got into a fight with OSHA over whether or not the Ark needed a fire sprinkler system and floatation devices. "Then my neighbor objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a variance from the city planning commission. "I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a ban on cutting trees to protect the Spotted Owl. I finally convinced the US Forest Service that I needed the wood to save the owls. "However, the Fish and Wildlife Service won't let me catch any owls. So, no owls. "The carpenters formed a union and went out on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the National Labor Union. "Now I have 16 carpenters on the Ark, but still no owls. "When I started rounding up the other animals, I got sued by an animal rights group. They objected to me only taking two of each kind aboard. "Just when I got the suit dismissed, the EPA notified me that I could not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact statement on your proposed flood. They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of the Creator of the universe. "Then the Army Corps of Engineers demanded a map of the proposed new flood plain. I sent them a globe. "Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that I am practicing discrimination by not taking godless, unbelieving people aboard! "The IRS has seized all my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in preparation to flee the country to avoid paying taxes. "I just got a notice from the State that I owe some kind of user tax and failed to register the Ark as a "recreational water craft." "Finally the ACLU got the courts to issue an injunction against further construction of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it is a religious event and therefore unconstitutional. "I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another 5 or 6 years!" Noah wailed and the sky began to clear, the sun began to shine and the seas began to calm. A rainbow arched across the sky. Noah looked up hopefully. "You mean you are not going to destroy the earth, Lord?" "No," said the Lord sadly. "The government already has."

I'm going to see about putting together a silent protest against some of the bullshit that's been going down lately.
|
Simply, as this coming Tuesday is the international day against police brutality, wear all black if you are against what our police have been doing. I think I'll put up fliers about it or something.

That is interesting. Thanks for the link, I'm sharing it with a few other people that would also be interested.

I did wonder if the beheadings were staged, but this does seem a bit odd. I wouldn't say to believe this right away, especially since we can't confirm such things on our own, but still, this does make me question a bit more. I wouldn't be surprised if this was all a tactic to make everyone more angry with al Qaeda/Iraq, so that US being brought in to fight on that side of the world would be more accepted and wanted by Americans.

I LOVED it. Saw it twice.
|
I, too, thought it was going to suck until I heard from many of my friends that are normally not into Pixar films that it was great, so I decided to go for it and came out completely happy with the decision. Usually for me, seeing films the second time around makes me like it a little less, but seeing it the second time around actually made me love it more. I love Edna Mode. All right, my original guess was "The Passion of the Christ" because it is on DVD right now and also in theaters, but since Sparda already told me that's not the answer he's looking for, my next answer in the game of "Let's guess what's going on in Sparda's head" is "Fahrenheit 9/11." |

All right, after thinking it over a bit I suddenly remember "Lost in Translation" came out before the movie left theaters.
|
My new answer... even though "The Passion of the Christ" still works is: "Lost in Translation" |
