I finally went and saw it yesterday after faire.
It was damn good (maybe not the greatest comic book movie in my opinion, but that's just me. X2's opening scene gives me a heart attack of joy every time I see it that NO other movie could ever duplicate). I sure hope this means Marvel's out of that slump of mediocre movies and this is the dawning of the new age. There were a couple things I didn't care for, though small in nature. 1) Since it's not a big plot point, there's no real need for spoiler tags. The part when he gets hit by the SUV and he's trying to make sure that it and the people in it don't get hurt. The extras they had in the vehicle were TERRIBLE. I mean, the fear on their face was so bad it was comical. Looked kinda like this guy: Yeah, it's definitely not a big deal, but it took away from the intensity of the moment. Also since Brandon and I had just had a bad run-in a couple hours before we went to see the movie with a blond woman in an H2 (who looked a lot like the SUV's driver in Iron Man), who scraped along the side of our car then drove away after getting out and blaming us then getting back in her car and driving away as fast as she could (I still got a picture of her license plate and reported the hit-and-run, so yeah), that part probably rubbed me the wrong way just then. *Shrugs* 2) The final fight had A LOT of Transformers visuals. Almost too closely at times. Aside from those little things, I loved it (especially the parts when he's fighting terrorists). Very Tony Stark. I really didn't think Robert Downey Jr. was a good choice for the part at first, but I'm glad I was proven wrong. Considering the fact that the only Iron Man books I've read are usually about the Avengers or just happen to feature him, I really don't know much about Pepper Potts. I like the fact that they kept in Tony's flaws. He's known for being a womanizing alcoholic with a bad heart. Fans wouldn't have it any other way if they cleaned him up for the movie. If I can find it, Wizard Magazine published an article about how, in the Marvel Universe, if you kiss Galactus, you can taste Tony Stark. He's been around that much. Seriously, though. Tony's coming out a lot like he becomes in Marvel Civil War. This is a perfect lead-in to it after they make the *cough cough Spoiler: cough cough cough*
Avengers P.S. Spoiler: Love the hinting toward Rhodes becoming the Warmachine. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-11-08 04:52 PM) |

TRAILER: http://movies.ign.com/dor/objects/379767/the-x-files-i-want-to-believe/videos/xfilestrailer_050908.html
As many already know, X-Files is making another big screen appearance, this time after the show's been off the air for 6 years. I wish I could say I'm excited, but I'm trying to avoid any real enthusiasm over this. I'm just hoping it's good. That is all. |

Check out the old banner you posted, Xeo.
Isn't that Dante? Now it always makes me think of Sparda. I'd only started playing the Devil May Cry games after I came here. You've also got Vash the Stampede there. Heh, I remember when you used to have him as your layout, even in the days of Vizzed. For some reason whenever you posted, I imagined Vash was saying whatever I read. But wait! What's that it says just under Vash? "Post for fun!" WHOA!!! What a concept, man. Blows any philosophy I ever had right out of the water. I mean, all this time any of us who posted were just doing it for the post counts, the e-fame, the infinite number of virgins we were promised in the afterlife (not for me thanks, that's just an eternity of bad sex right there. Gotta change the sheets every morning. Neverending streams of premature... anyway...), and of course the almighty dollar. What was that, Xeo? We weren't paid? You gotta be kidding me! I had to have been paid, otherwise why would I have stayed here for 5 or so years?! Hey, shut up, I'm not a loser! I've got prospects!! I... I... well, I can move out of my parents house any ol' time I want. Gee, I guess it was for the people all this time. You know, that community feeling. The few of us who've stuck together and been there for one another through the years. Cause geez, I can't count the number of family and pet deaths, contemplated suicides, possibly fatal illnesses, military hopefuls, tales of love lost and revenge, cases of ultimate depression, high school and college graduates who suddenly feel lost or intimidated of the "real world," and those who've stuck by them even just to wish them well, we've had come through here. Not to mention the friends we've made, the births, the relationships discovered, the phone calls and letter mailed, the late night AIM chats, the endless love and advice that's passed between board members, the laughter, the tears, the memories that'll last for years, and all following a fearless leader who doesn't treat us like fodder for the ad-money. So going back to that banner. It evokes a lot of great memories, but the one we've got now brings in a lot of pleasant new ones, with plenty of room to make more. OK, so the new one doesn't say anything about posting for fun. Has that changed? Has the dawn of Xeogaming meant we aren't posting for the sheer joy of it any longer? P.S. You've got me during finals week right now. If I get a passing grade on my final, I can finally get out of LBCC and MOVE THE FUCK ON to university. Just sayin'. |

Jesus tap-dancing Christ! You're not a teenager any more?!
Yeah, granted not much comes with being 20, but hey, you know, you can finally yell at kids for being on your lawn and scold them saying in your day kids minded their elders and gas was reasonable. |

I'd be lying if I said I was shocked at how Speed Racer's been doing. I mean, with all the buzz Iron Man was getting, I figured the number of people going to see it would be dramatically less, but I'm surprised it did so poorly.
Even that Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz movie, What Happens in Vegas, did better than it at the "per screen" rate. Sure it got $200,000 more for the weekend take, but it was playing on many more screens. Anyway, since the Wachowkis seem to concentrate on emulating anime (Matrix was very strongly influenced by Ghost in the Shell) and adapting it as well as comics for the screen, let's all speculate what the Wachowski brother/sister team are going to try and adapt now. They're producing Ninja Assassin, but I'm talking direction (or at least writing the screenplay). I could see them trying to pick up the X-Men franchise, and improving on Bryan Singer's work while also acting as though X3 wasn't made. However, it's really not like them to pick up where someone left off, on top of which X-Men is much more mainstream than what they usually choose to cover or emulate. Since they chose to do V for Vendetta I'd say they might actually try their hand at Maus (Art Spiegelman's story of his father going through the Holocaust, but with mice in the place of Jews, and cats as Nazis). They'd play it like a dark Stuart Little. No? Hmmm, how about going into Dark Horse's manga arena (that also have "classic" Japanese films attached)--Lone Wolf and Cub, Lady Snowblood, Blade of the Immortal,or possibly (dare I say it?) Trigun? Oh jeez, now I could see them pulling a Trigun movie out of their asses and actually making it look good. Frankly I'm surprised no one's made a live action Cowboy Bebop at that. Anyway, what do you think the Andy and Larry might try to make a move toward nowadays? |

All I know is I want to get paid for writing. And since I'm really into comics, movies, conventions, local events, and so on, I'm majoring in journalism. I've already got my certificate, just shooting for the BA.
Since I'm transferring out and the university I'm (probably) going to next semester doesn't have journalism itself as a major, I'm going into communications. |

Watching Ghost World. One of my top favorite comic book movies.
Before this was watching this old Jack Nicholson movie called Goin' South. Amusing, but altogether not worth the time re-watching. Otherwise have been watching Bollywood films for the past week. |

I'd like to say fuck you to my stats class. Well, at least 10 of the people in it.
We had our stats final yesterday. I'm feeling really low about it right now. Our final was supposed to be next week, when most finals are scheduled. Each final scheduling gives the class 2 to 2 and half hours to complete the final. Whenever the class wanted to talk about when the final was going to be held, it was agreed upon that it'd be Tuesday, May 20 (when we were scheduled by the SCHOOL to take it). I marked all my calendars for it and so on. Sometime last month, someone gets their panties in a bunch about wanting to take the final sooner and move it to May 15 instead. The class votes on it, resulting in a tie and the teacher decides oh what the hell, let's do it the 15th instead. The length of our usual class time is an hour and half. Most of us didn't complete the in-class final. Myself included. The final's worth 30 percent of your grade, and I was at the A-/B+ range. This teacher has said that he doesn't grade on curves and his answer to people's questions this semester has always been, "I'll be teaching two stats classes for summer school. Look me up." I NEED this class to transfer out. And the university I'm planning on heading to will only accept a C or better in math. A further fuck you to the girl who sat two seats ahead of me this semester. Granted she was nice and all, but this fuck you is geared toward what she said to me two weeks ago. While I was talking to my friend, Jose, about Ren(aissance) faire, she turned around and asked me what it was like because she always wanted to go to one. I tell her and we have a nice conversation on something I'm really into. Then she asks what I'm getting in the class. I tell her maybe a B+ or A-. She says she's getting an A because she's cheating on every quiz. Wait... HUH?! She'd taken the class last semester and gotten a D in it, but she kept all of her quizzes and tests from last semester. And since he doesn't change them, AND he allows us to have a 3x5 notecard for formulas and such, so she's just been writing answers on them this whole time and bullshitting the "Show your work" parts. Initially I wasn't annoyed or anything. I almost congratulated her on finally "succeeding" her second time through the class. I might also add, that this teacher's grading method is to write the correct answer next to the ones you got wrong, so it's QUITE easy to do what this girl did. Anyway, after handing in my incomplete final exam, I went outside and called a suicide hotline. I doubt I'd really have the guts to do myself in, but with all of the pressure that's been on me lately (going to court, transferring, summer plans, parents in and out of hospitals, how I'd spent a year out of my life preparing for this class, etc), I'm ashamed to say that for the first time in my life it briefly came up as a serious option on my mental bargaining table of what to do to handle this situation if I truly bombed the test. Samantha, the counselor I talked to, was nice. She let me talk it all out, while also telling me I didn't know what my final grade is so I shouldn't be upset. Which is what Brandon also insisted when I later broke down about it again (incidentally, we had play tickets for last night that ended up going unused since Brandon wanted to drive me around town to blow off steam and just talk). I don't have that feeling any more, and again I don't think I could ever really do it, but I was scared that my mind for some reason jumped to that possibility in that moment of pure shame. That's life, you know. And I do want to keep trudging through it like everyone else. It's the little things that keep you going. Anyway, yeah fuck school and making you take it so seriously. I'm sure when I'm out of it, I'll just look back and laugh at myself for being so stressed over nothing. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-16-08 02:16 PM) |

In defense of Video Hut, I created it some time ago when Zabuza and many other posters would pull embeds off YouTube and post them all over Entertainment which cluttered it ridiculously.
I mean, threads with embeds are cool if they're about new trailers and such, but mixing in videos of people combining Mentos and Diet Coke, doing their Numa Numa impersonations, or taping an elephant pulling fecal matter out of another elephant didn't exactly fit with movie and book talk. In the end, if it must be eliminated as a forum, please incorporate it as a subforum somewhere. If you must get rid of the old mud pit that is Debate, it might work well as a subforum under General since much of it is pulling recent news and discussing it. Riddler's, to be honest, every time we get a forum like it around here and the discussion comes up over its lack of activity, I usually am on the side that wants to get rid of it. It's a fun forum and all, but it's not used most of the time. Subforum to Crazy. Crazy's been needing a new name, and I also say nay to nixing it on the grounds that that forum needs to exist as an asylum for the all ridiculousness we've got bouncing off the walls around here in unbuckled straight jackets. In regards to a n00bie forum, I think we got rid of it for the fact that most people just spammed it. And since we used to be all about quality over quantity (HA, yeah right!) back then, it was removed so people would be forced to post something more than, "Ur new! Hi!!!!!" Seriously the new McDonald's southern chicken sandwich tastes EXACTLY like they lifted the recipe off Chick-fil-A. I wouldn't be surprised if that's just what they did either.
Anyway, Wendy's already has a cheap menu for those of us who don't have a lot of money and want to mix and match. Can't beat $0.99 nuggets. Hell, even McDonald's is trying to pull this whole reminding people they sell nuggets 4 for a dollar. Wendy's 99-cent nuggets still gets you 5. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-16-08 12:33 PM) |

At least for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, that hot and often rather boring (if you spend it vegging) season is coming up.
|
What are your plans outside of work and maybe summer school? Any vacation plans? Studying abroad? Anything? Since I took my last final a couple days ago and I'm nervously waiting on the results, I've spent a good portion of every day at the (thankfully well air-conditioned) library, reading graphic novels. It's mostly to pass time, but also serving as something of a study period for con season. The only semi-big plan I've got this summer is Comic-Con -- as it's been for the past 6 or so summers. Seriously, Comic-Con's become the one thing I look forward to with such passion every year. It's my sanity in the form of 5 days of geeky chaos. Not sure if I want to volunteer for Anime Expo or not yet. Otherwise, I'll probably just be spending time trying to transfer into my university of choice (that is if the final went over all right *keeps fingers crossed*) and roadie-ing Brandon's shows. He's performing in Metal Jam with a bunch of different metal performers from around Southern California next month for the Autism Speaks charity.

Seriously, McDonald's is famous for seeing what's around and trying to incorporate it into their own menu -- like when they started selling tortas (Spanish sandwiches) and wraps for crying out loud. One thing that kinda irks me, though, is how for breakfast at Micky-D's I used to get the sausage biscuit (no egg or cheese) combination for $3-something, but then they bumped it for the southern chicken biscuit and now that combo doesn't exist. Ordering a sausage biscuit combination that has egg on it raises it $1 or so and I don't like the fucking eggs. So I've been bearing with it and ordering the chicken biscuit anyway since it's the same price as the original combo. I mean, it's not bad if the chicken comes fresh from the fryer. They're kinda ewww when they've been sitting.

See, the thing is I wanted to like the first movie, but I ended up feeling cheated once it was over.
|
I don't know why. And I loved the show. I really really did. This strikes me as a Serenity for X-Files, and to be honest I heartily disliked Serenity. I mean, it had a lot of great points, but the end result truly upset me. I don't want to walk out of this new movie with a chunk of the original cast dead (including Mulder) for the shock value of the fanbase.

Every group sounding board needs a catharsis once in a while. It's completely understandable.

Hell, it's way better to be that disconnected and peaceful third-party that people flock to than the overly-melodramatic attention-whoring seeking out people like you to vent about their ridiculous bullshit to any day. |
