I suppose the last person I really helped was my boyfriend's brother. He broke his arm on Saturday and we drove more than 80 miles to take care of him and pick him up because his friends bailed on him after dropping him at the ER of a random hospital.
The whole time we're there, he wanted me to help him get undressed, to scratch his head for him, to cradle his elbow so it didn't hurt so much while he was getting x-rays done, to hold ice packs on his arm, and then talk to him to keep him awake. He can be an idiot and a jerk sometimes, but he's really the younger brother I never had. When was the last time you felt truly relieved? Like soul-soaring, everything's-gonna-be-OK, best-news-I've-heard-in-a-LOOOOOONG-time sort of relieved? |

I've been promoted to the opinion editor of the Daily Titan. It's my third day with the official title and I'm bushed. Monday through Wednesday tend to be late nights and I've got a couple papers due tomorrow.
Thankfully they don't have me working Sundays. They got someone else to fill in on that day because they didn't want to "overwhelm" me. Anyway, I had a really weird dream last night. Seemed so real, though. I dreamt a Jet Blue plane flew directly over my house and landed on the houses behind mine, completely obliterating them. Well, hopefully it was was just a dream. |

Say you're doing a paper on Martin Luther King Jr.
You type his name into Google. The third site down, after a Wikipedia page and a Nobel Peace prize profile, is http://www.martinlutherking.org/. You think to yourself, 'Well, it sounds like he's got his own organization set up. They'll probably have nothing but cold, hard facts and perhaps even interviews from people who knew him.' You click the link. You're checking the place out. It's filled with "articles" about repealing MLK Day, how Kwanzaa should also not be a holiday, and puts up some rather unappealing quotes about Dr. King (that don't provide scans or any info other than quotes from noted publications). You run a whois search on the site. And you see: "Registrant Email:don.black@STORMFRONT.ORG" You go to Stormfront.org. And what do you find? A forum for White Pride World Wide. You may have already seen this, but it's a word of warning when you do any sort of research these days. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-15-09 01:54 PM) |

I love the fact that 471 (reporting for the Daily Titan) people talk down to me for "just" being a 201 (reporting for the mass media) student.
Last week, I went on assignment with a couple 471 girls (who weren't aware that I was an assistant editor) and they kept wanting to do all the talking. When we got back to the office and one of them decided (while on deadline) that she was tired and would go home instead of writing the story, and I volunteered, the other horned in and glared down at me (I'm somewhat short compared to people in the office) saying, "You don't need this story. I do! I can get credit for it and you're still learning how to write a lead." Anyway, an hour later, the story's still not done and the second one leaves. I write the story, get printed, and was promoted this week. 471 students have to turn in their editorials, commentaries, etc, to me. Anyway, I'm covering another event tonight for the paper, because those same 471 students decided it wasn't worth their time. Great reporting, ladies. |

An odd fuck you for today. Doesn't affect me personally, yet it's still somewhat absurd.
Fuck you to the girl in my ethics class who had the gall to ask why no one thought Courtney Stewart was driving drunk. Courtney Stewart was the CSUF girl killed in the accident last week. While it is a valid question, the girl kept pushing the issue that maybe SHE was impaired. The accident went as such: guy (Gallo) was driving a minivan, and was drunk. He ran a red light. He hit the Mitsubishi Eclipse which had Adenhart, Pearson, Stewart, and Wilhite that was going through the intersection with a green light. The girl in my class kept shouting, if she were sober she would have had the reaction time to avoid Gallo and save everyone as she was the one driving. That's already implying that Stewart, who was the driver, must have had something to drink. In fact, it pretty much claims that anyone whom someone else smashed into could very well have been drinking themselves because they didn't have the "reaction time you'd have while sober" to avoid an accident. Hmmm, in that thread I pretty much just posed the question.
I'm not much different. I'm still with the same person I was with then (we hit our 5-year mark today, actually), but I too have seen more and more people succumb to another's bullshit because the sex is decent or, to say the very least, that they're getting some at all. I'm trying to remember the frame of mind I was in when I wrote out that question, though. I was 20. I had just done 2 conventions (Rocky Con and Anime Expo), was preparing for Labyrinth Masquerade and another big convention within a week after that. And all at the same time, Brandon was on a 3-week long trip with his dad a few states over. Chances are I was starved for male affection at that point and was fed up watching some of the people I'd seen at the conventions acting like douches about their "rosters." Especially with Rocky Con where so many of the guys just spent it trying to bag as much pussy as they could. Anyway, since that post I've just resigned myself to thinking that's just the way people are. I don't brag about my numbers. In fact I don't even think about my past relationships or any of that at all. In short, I've got the same thoughts, but I've become quite a bit more jaded, I guess. |

Originally posted by Elara Opinion editor. My promotion actually had nothing to do with the fact that I wrote the story for the special edition. The editor-in-chief (along with her second in command) used to work at the Viking. They figured since I had so much experience I could just step in to a position soon-to-be vacated by a graduating editor. So I've pretty much just been doing his job for the past week. So Brandon and I hit 5 years yesterday. Went to the Santa Barbara Zoo. The birds around the cafe there are vicious, man. They're like little herons and they actually fly onto people's tables and steal their hamburgers. Had a nice dinner after strolling around a small town in Ventura County. EDIT: I wrote out that story this morning and sent it to the news desk for copy editing and such before it goes to print. The head news editor called me to confirm one of the ranks of the marines that I'd interviewed. As it turned out, I had his old rank listed (first lieutenant) and not the one he retired as (lieutenant colonel). Even a small thing wrong like that can get journalists fired in the real world because it shows that you don't check facts before something's printed and goes public. As it turns out the OC Register published the story saying the guy's a first lieutenant, and put it in the freakin' lead. I called my editor. He thought it was hysterical. I really don't remember. I don't really eat breakfast foods. Anytime I go out for breakfast, I get stuff off the lunch menu.
I did have one of those green coconut waffles to snack on a few weeks ago, but that really doesn't count. Hmmm... so yeah, not sure when I last ate some. Is it getting hot where you are? |

Fuck heatwaves.
Especially when you're living on a second floor where heat collects and you don't have windows on opposing sides of your room so the air can flow through. Or maybe it's just me. Anyway, fuck that time of year where I can't have my computer on at all because it keeps overheating and restarting. |

Originally posted by Gan Ning Lip read porn? What's the point? Let's see, something that makes me RAAAAGE. Hmmm. When my boyfriend's brother keeps calling us asking for rides and money. He's about to turn 19 and doesn't have his GED, lives with his dad, doesn't have a job, and calls up his mom in Arizona to give him money for weed and actually fucking gets it. No one's telling this guy to get a job or finish school, he just hangs out with his meth-head friends day-in and day-out. And now that he's got a broken arm he has so many more excuses to be lazy, having everyone do everything for him all while feeling sorry for him. Now he's blowing through Percocets and about to call his doctor bitching that he needs stronger downers. He spent a lot of time in the hospital yelling at nurses to get him oxytocin. And here he is calling up again, asking for more money, and wanting yet another ride to a friend's house because his other friend "ran out of gas." Just watch. He's gonna be a wildly successful politician. I just know it. |

A bunch of us in the office just took a break, and went downstairs so a bunch of people could smoke and talk. It's freakin' 10 o'clock at night and it's still over 80 degrees. The O.C. Register has it at 85.
Oh the joys of going to school in the O.C. |

You know, as I think on it a bit more, my perspectives on sex have shifted a bit.
I've reached a point in my life where I don't see sex as just sex any more. It's become more of an expression of intimacy. While I know there's primal, pure lust, no attachment, AMAZING sex, that just isn't for me any more. A friend of mine's girlfriend has been spending the past few months surfing Craig's List for a girl to get in on a threesome with them. While I get that threesomes are a turn-on for some couples, I just can't do it. Aside from the fact that I'm straight or just not interested in a threesome, I've lost my ability to divorce intimacy from sex. In my mind, I can't mix something that I have with Brandon with a primal urge for someone else. While it's possible for others, it isn't for me. And it reflects on my outlook of sex, in general. That's not to say that this is a new concept after being in a long-term relationship. It's just that after thinking about it, this notion did sort of start early on and has blossomed fully into, "I just don't think I could be with anyone sexually if I didn't truly have feelings for them." Yeah, sex is great. I know it is. But sex with someone you love is like... thousands of times better. You know, especially if they know what you like. Also, I should add that, pleasing someone you love, sexually, is also so much more gratifying. Mmmm... |

So I met Nadya's former PR person (he absolutely refuses to be called a "publicist"), Michael Furtney, yesterday. He came to my university to talk to students in communications majors, as part of our annual Comm Week.
He was the one she hired almost immediately after having the octuplets, and who put together that donation site for her. He ended up dropping her as a client when he kept receiving multiple death threats. He was really nice, and answered everyone's questions about Nadya so candidly. Among the things he'd discussed was how most people would think a normal person would never try to have more kids when they already have 6 children. He said that Suleman didn't want the embryos destroyed (which he did say was a pretty terrible process), and she opted to use them all in the hopes that maybe one or two of them would take. She didn't realize that all eight would end up being born. He also mentioned how so many ask why she doesn't put them up for adoption and allow childless couples to raise some of them. Furtney said that just isn't an option she would consider. Someone asked what Nadya's response was to his dropping her. He said she was surprised, but quickly got over it and moved on to hire someone else. After his lecture I went up and talked to him. I asked what was the deal with her declarations that people should leave her alone and not call her a celebrity when she keeps doing things, like say, hiring a PR person, calling up Dr. Phil to help with her problems, choosing to appear on countless TV shows, and now possibly getting her own reality show. He then added that she's also seeking a book deal. Furtney pretty much said that it seems puzzling, but that's the way it is sometimes with clients. I asked him about the Vivid Entertainment offer for Nadya to appear in porn, an offer which came after he quit. I figured he might know something about it since Nadya still constantly calls him up to talk and ask for advice. I was also curious to know her reaction to the offer and why she never issued a formal answer. He says she NEVER received such an offer from Vivid and has no idea what these documents are that TMZ and Fox are flashing around. EDIT: I also forgot to add that since Furtney's agency started that donation site, they've been in a battle with PayPal to get all the money that was donated for the octuplets. So all of those donations that have been made on the site are just sitting in PayPal's pocket right now and Suleman can't get them out. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-22-09 02:24 PM) |

Brandon and I are over at his dad's house babysitting Joseph since he's had his surgery.
We're watching this one-man show of Will Ferrell as George W. Bush. It's pretty amusing. |

It's sort of funny. She originally hated the term "Octomom," but now she's trying to trademark it so that every time it's used she gets paid royalties. | |||

Coachella, a big music festival in the Southern California desert (where admittedly A LOT of drug usage goes on), happened this past weekend.
This guy, who came in a wizard costume decided to bare all. The video is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Naked Wizard Tased By Reality from Tracy Anderson on Vimeo. |

Tasing often seems unnecessary and excessive, but they were repeatedly asking him to put his clothes on to which he taunted them saying he "could do this all day," and then threw a fit and tried to fight them when they proceeded to arrest him.
Coachella tends to be filled with "progressive" minded kids who would cheer on nudity and all that, but the guy was in the wrong here. That's the odd and yet fascinating thing I notice in every tasing video. RARELY does someone step forward and say what police are doing is wrong and try to explain why. What do they do? They grab their cameras and stare slack-jawed. It's typical in L.A. Whenever anyone has some sort of interaction with a cop, you'll see someone drive by or come running up brandishing their camera and then shout things like, "Everyone is watching you!" to the police. I've seen it happen on several occasions. It seems most people are more interested in sharing the next police brutality video. I've witnessed one tasing in my life, and I can honestly say it was deserved. This girl was at a Rocky Horror screening, that my boyfriend and I were also at, in Arizona. During the show, she flipped out and started running up and down the aisles screaming hysterically at people (this was definitely not part of the act) and, with her stiletto heels, kicked a few people in the face because she thought they were insulting her. Whenever people tried to get a hold of her and take her outside, she squirmed out of their hold and continued on her tirade. When Brandon and I were leaving the show later that night, the cops had just arrived and were trying to arrest her, but she kept fighting out of their hold, ranting and raving, also kicking them in their faces and crotches with her spiked heels. Eventually they grabbed their taser guns as a last resort in order to put her down. When they finally got her in the car, she kept screaming, "They're watching you. They're seeing what you're doing. You're all racists!!!" (The girl and the cops, by the way, were all white.) Now how I see this naked wizard guy... it was all in his hands there. Yeah, it definitely sucks that he got tased, but he fought them, tried to get away, and that's all there is to it. The "Don't tase me, Bro" video, though. THAT one still pisses me off. Now that's tasing that was completely unnecessary and excessive. And for what? The guy asked questions of John Kerry that he didn't want to answer. And Kerry didn't even stick up for his first amendment right. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-25-09 01:53 PM) |

Originally posted by Belial And I completely understand your point on that. At the city college, we'd get yelled at by the local police (who replaced the campus police in watching the school) for public displays of affection. No joke, this woman actually threatened to take Brandon and me in for hugging too long. And whenever there was a sexual assault on campus the police told the girls to keep quiet about it and didn't put out any information about the assaults. They have had their reasons the first few times they did it, but it was rather unsettling that they didn't want the whole to know and guard themselves. A couple years later when a couple more alleged rapes occurred they finally put out some fliers with a drawing of the suspect. I guess what I'm getting at is that were some video to pop up with LBPD doing something harsh, I might lean a little biased against the police as well. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-25-09 05:14 PM) |
