Originally posted by Katana Admittedly, when I was deeply into baseball growing up, it was part of getting to hang out with my cousin. The day of our grandfather's funeral, he bought me a ticket to see the Dodgers, which followed a celebrity game. We sat there in our funeral clothes, cheering on our boys in blue (we also got to take part in setting the record for the most people doing the Macarena at the same time ... which was shattered a couple weeks later when a Latino street fair in L.A. decided to do it). Anyway, bottom of the 9th, score tied at 3 and Mike Piazza steps up to the plate. I start praying. The man whacks it into the cheap seats and the crowd goes wild. Sports-wise, for me, nothing else in the world would ever compare to that menial win. Nothing. |

The Lakers actually put out a commercial following the game, "Celebrate with dignity," telling people to not get too crazy.
Astonishingly, only one car (that they know of) was on fire this year, 20 arrests, a few wounded officers, and Things were peaceful... eh. (Last edited by Rogue on 06-18-10 11:53 AM) |

This one came out over a year ago, but has been getting posted and reposted all over again:
And this is OKGo's new video, which came out earlier this week: Since it was shot in Echo Park (hipster territory), a lot of L.A. blogs are predicting there will now be a ton of hipsters hanging around there making their own versions of the video. Either way, good stuff. |

This is simply HORRIFYING.
Even if those aren't her kids, a woman dancing like that with kids that young is disturbing beyond imagination. |

Originally posted by Xeu That's your answer, really. Your parents are pressuring you to take this big, expensive route to get the two of you to talk. It's like paying $5 for a card just to say you love someone. You want to say it, then SAY it. Break the ice. Tell her how you feel. You shouldn't have to be pressured to go through some middle man to learn to talk to someone. I'll say this now, though. You're definitely not the first person I've ever heard say he has no relationship with his sibling. At least yours lives in the same house. One of my dad's good friends just passed away and the guy's sister, his only next of kin, refuses to answer the phone, return calls, make funeral arrangements or anything as they were so estranged. His body has been in a morgue for the past month and a half because no one else is claiming him. Poor Bob. I really liked him. My own boyfriend, 26, is separated from his brother and sister by several hundred miles. One lives in another state, and the other several counties away. His younger siblings were accidents (they are aware) and they're so much younger than he is. He can't even relate to his spoiled 16-year-old sister who's a whole 'nother generation down, but they still talk whenever they see each other. Anyway... I don't think you should do this Breakthroughs thing. These lifestyle seminars RARELY work, at least not permanently. BUT, I strongly believe you should talk to your sister. When your parents are gone, it'll just be the two of you. And hey, life is short. Before you know it, you'll be moving away from each other, getting on with your own lives, maybe seeing one another at Christmas or Thanksgiving. You don't HAVE to go camping or do bullshit trust exercises, catching each other as you fall back and so on. But I really think you should at least say what you wrote above. And while you're at it, why don't you get to know her boyfriend too? |

No thanks. Someone actually did that at a convention to another person and both of them fell on me while I was sitting on the floor. Den Mommy did not approve.
What are you doing today? |

Because the old black rum's got a hold on me like a dog wrapped 'round my leg. And the old black rum's got a hold on me, will I live for another day? Heeeeyyy, will I live for another day? That was a GREAT party Friday night. Gonna miss Damon. |

Things that I'm sure will work their way down the pipeline sooner or later:
- A Duck Tales live action movie. - A Carmen Sandiego movie. - Another Archie Comics-based live action movie (lest we forget Josie and the Pussycats). - Yet another Frank Miller film adaptation of an old comic book which will just look like another Sin City rehash. - A Captain Planet movie (because you know... before all this "go green" shit launched, there were 5 teens with magic rings). - A live action Ranma movie (if only...) - Ghostbusters 3. - A Star Trek: Next Generation movie ala J.J. Abrams' take on the franchise. - An Animaniacs movie. - A Back to the Future remake (some blogs are already starting to talk...) - A live action Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers Shudder... |

Originally posted by Katana Teeheeheehee... it's true. I mean, about the more you know the better. Not the other... heehee, thing. I felt like I knew a lot about comics, and then a couple years ago, I spent the summer hanging out in the library reading graphic novels and I felt PUMPED going into Comic-Con the next month. Feels like there's always more to know about, though. I think those guys might just be looking in the wrong places, because every con I've been to is PACKED with geek/nerd girls. In fact, it's seems like every year there's more and more of them. It's always funny to me when fanboys, movies, shows, society, etc make jokes about the lack of women in the geek world. "Ohhhhh, a girl!! I'm scared." They even made that joke when I guested on the comics talk radio show at my university. Anyway... it's funny to me because it's just so wrong, at least here in Southern California, hell Cali in general. |

My hands have a few times. Curse absent-mindedly stretching in my room.
Are there any candles nearby? |

Honestly, I do sort of gravitate toward the bed one. I think it's sweet and it makes me giggle, especially when they're rolling and wearing the silly things. I dig it. | |||

Three days for a convention I was staffing. Sort of cheated by resting my eyes in the rafters above the stage.
What did you eat today? |

Getting ready to go somewhere, but filling this out while Brandon looks up directions and stuff.
Strike the above. Back from the event. Loads of Chinese tacos. Sooooo full. OK, strike that again. Just got back after spending the day wandering about Los Angeles, and then watching a Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer concert. Where were we? 1. What time did you get up this morning - 7:30. I wanted to sleep 'til 10 (since I never do), but the people working on the house were extra loud moving bricks. Also, had to get ready for the day. 2. How do you like your steak? - I don't like steak, but if it's all there is then medium rare. 3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? - Saw Alice in Wonderland at a cheap theater a couple days ago, before that it was Iron Man 2 when it came out. 4. What is your favorite TV show? - There's too many to list (mostly shows that were canceled or have ended already), but of what's currently on the air, probably either House or Mythbusters. 5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? - In a villa overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. 6. What did you have for breakfast? - Broccoli cheddar soup with a baguette followed by strawberries dipped in Nutella. 7. What is your favorite cuisine? - Greek and Chinese. 8. What foods do you dislike? - Pickles, mussels, clams, and a lot of Indian food. 9. Favorite Place to Eat? - Phoenix, Arizona. Soooo much good food in that state. 10. Favorite dressing? - Creamy Caesar, I guess. 11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? - Volvo 940. Yeah. It's a real pussy wagon. 12. What are your favorite clothes? - Renaissance faire garb. 13. Where would you visit if you had the chance? - Neverland. 14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full? - Depends. What is it? Water? Pssh, you can always refill it. 15. Where would you want to retire? - The Shire. In all honesty, that's quite a bit far in the future for me. 16. Favorite time of day? - Early afternoon. 17. Where were you born? - Los Angeles. 18. What is your favorite sport to watch? - Don't have one. 19. What was the name of your first pet? - Teddie. He was a silky terrier. 20. Strangest thing you bought recently? - That all depends on your definition of strange or if you put the priority on the most recent thing. Today I bought a crate of blueberries while wandering around Koreatown, but last week I bought elf ears and a couple days ago I bought Mexican pulp comics. 21. Oddest item near you? - Either cardboard Wolverine claws, a jar of Nutella, a whole bunch of 3D glasses, or an Italian rapier. All of these things are about the same distance away. 22. Bird watcher? - Not really. If I see a pretty bird on a hike or something, I'll stop and look at it. 23. Are you a morning person or a night person? - Both, actually. 24. Pets? - Two cats: Miko and Tiki. 25. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share? - I'm stoked. Just found out this book series I loved in middle school has two more sequels I didn't know about. Bought them off Amazon for a penny each. 26. What did you want to be when you were little? - A marine biologist. 27. What is your best childhood memory? - Best? Going to Hawaii a few times with my parents. 28. Are you a cat or dog person? - Both, but I've got cats and they're easier to maintain, so I get looped in with the cat people. 29. Are you married? - Hahahahahahaha!!! Nope. 30. Always wear your seat belt? - Yeah. 31. Been in a car accident? - One major one when I was 8. 32. Any pet peeves? - A few: people who bitch about things they get for free, massive crowds, people repeating themselves way too often, and people obviously trying to bullshit me. 33. Favorite pizza toppings? - Sausage and mushroom. 34. Favorite Flower? - Hibiscus. 35. Favorite ice cream? - Maple Blondie. 36. Favorite fast food restaurant? - Heart Attack Grill. 37. How many times did you fail your driver's test? - I never failed the behind the wheel. 38. From whom did you get your last email? - Brandon's grandma. 39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? - If I had a credit card, I'd probably drop it all at a convention. 40. Do anything spontaneous lately? - A few things, I suppose. Cave exploring, going to a backyard pagan barbecue in Hollywood, just driving to different places in the middle of the night out of muscle memory. 41. Like your job? - Right now, on break, but I used to love interviewing random people and writing about them. 42. Broccoli? - If it's served in a creamy soup, DEFINITELY. 43. What was your favorite vacation? - Too many to choose. Probably one of the recent trips to either the Bay Area or Arizona. 44. Last person you went out to dinner with? - Brandon. 45. What are you listening to right now? - *Flips on Pandora just for shits* Johnny Cash singing "God's Gonna Cut You Down." 46. What is your favorite color? - Magentaish purple and green. 47. How many tattoos do you have? - None yet. 48. Do you go see plays? - Saw a few shows recently: one starred a Rocky friend of ours, it was a Star Trek take on Gilbert and Sullivan. The other thing was a friend doing his stand-up philosophy act in Hollywood. 49. What time is it? - 2:20 a.m. PST. 50. Coffee Drinker? - Had three iced hazelnut lattes today. But otherwise, yeah. |

I think I'd actually love a live action Ranma movie, especially if it were Japanese-made.
And frankly, as I read over my list of hypotheticals again, I actually thought many of those things could be in the process of being optioned as I write this. I could see a Carmen Sandiego movie being greenlit in a hot second. |

Now that I can finally put away books about penises and frigid bitches more interested in voting than making a man a sammich, I can finally read what I want!! AwwwwwwwRIGHT!
Found a discarded copy of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" in a donation box outside a used book store and am going through it while I ride the trains around town. Otherwise, I've been reading the odd graphic novels again. Finished the last Fables book a few days ago, and I'm just going through comics I've bought or picked up for free but haven't read yet. Good stuff. |

The viral marketing for this has been insanely awesome.
They MADE these commercials and hid them among ads for real products from the '80s. It's freaking brilliant. |
