| I think this is more of an issue of position in society. Blacks and Hispanics and women, even, are effectively treated as second-class citizens. There isn't too much effort for reform and changing this, but society still frowns upon kicking someone--or even some peoples--who are already down.
To provide an alternative non-race example, consider a classroom. As many of you may know, there are these things called tests. And oftentimes, there is a good part of the class who bomb these tests. It doesn't sound rude at all for one "bomber" to joke to another how awfully the other did on the test, with the mutual understanding that neither of them is in a better position. But if someone aces the test, and then does the same to someone who flunked it, it might easily be construed as quite offensive, because of the discrepancy between the two parties. Sound plausible? |

| Actually, I'd like to note that The Economist, NPR, BBC, and C-SPAN are very accurate news sources, for the record--sorry, I don't watch CNN or any of that nonsense.
I'd like to point out to Vulkar that there is no universal equality. Most pacifists don't intend to explode buildings. |

I was just pointing out that in modern-day America, there is still a great deal of social and economic inequality between white men and minorities and women. Women and minorities still earn less for the same job, and have lower paying, lower ranked jobs in general. Stop pretending that everyone's equal, Vulkar.  |

| I still don't understand why homework is graded. Or why there aren't rankings.
Credit-wise, I've already graduated, except I have to take four years of English, which cannot be taken except at school. Argumentative essays aren't useful. Persuasive essays are. Also, college is messed. Listen to this. A transfer student who gets a 5 (max grade) on an Advanced Placement examination only receives half of the credit as a freshman who gets a 3 on the same exam. Awesome, huh? Can you say 40 units > 20 units? =( So best case scenario, I'll need 3 years to finish undergraduate, and I'm losing a year because of credit overlap. And that's best case scenario. Worst case is that there's a credit overflow and I'm not allowed to transfer. How messed up is that? And you thought you had it bad.

| If it's a need-based scholarship, you should look out for other ones that you are applicable for, since you'll probably have some luck with them. It's more dependent around your college for that, but look for local scholarships.
If it's a merit-based scholarship of that magnitude, I'd think they'd be rather stringent with the grades, as it's kind of expected. I'm assuming that if this is so, you're applying for the Webster Scholarship, no? But for internships, again, look for stuff through your college. I hear it's a bit easier if it's for need-based situations rather than someone who can just take out a loan, but I don't really know the specifics. You could always just get a job over the summer. $2500 in three months shouldn't be impossible, but you'll have to find somewhere that pays around $10/hour, I think, and you'll be working for most if not all of the summer. |

| If you have it, try Craig's List? Otherwise, the classified in your local newspaper is a good place to look. Just to try to help out, you have work experience, probably under PR, from what I gather. Where I live, office experience is more useful, but look around.
I'd say I know how you feel, but I don't. My dad's a jerk sometimes, and around rarely, and talks to me even rarer, and we converse once in a blue moon, but he doesn't do crack, which is good, I guess. My applications for jobs are out, so I'm just finishing up school, looking for cheap books for college, and not thinking about what I can't effect. |

| Well, I wouldn't say it's okay, since she did know it's vandalism. And forget public school, private schools might be more touchy about vandals. The private school I went to might not expel someone fitting this profile, but they'd get a pretty hefty punishment.
