Originally posted by Elara Apocalyptica pretty much formed over a love of playing Metallica covers. Speaking of which, Metallica has found their way onto my list of favorite bands. There's something remarkably comforting about James Hetfield's voice these days. And I don't care what anyone says, he's still damn hot. I've seen them four times in concert, once with perhaps my top favorite band opening for them: Flogging Molly. Seen them five times. I've left every concert tired and sweaty from jumping around a lot, shouting lyrics along to the songs. I've got a few more favorites, but yeah, the thread asked for one. |

5, I think. I was either in pre-school or kindergarten. It was a front tooth on the bottom.
What's your favorite show that's no longer on the air? |

It's been a while, let me check. It's been a while since I've gotten to read an actual novel. I've been either reading textbooks or gratuitous amounts of graphic novels.
The last one I finished was apparently "The Woman Who Wouldn't," by Gene Wilder. It was OK. Nothing great or that I would recommend. What was the last really amazing meal you had? |

The third and final tape has been posted on RadarOnline.com.
I'm somewhat dismayed by the headline it ran under: "EXCLUSIVE AUDIO: Another Mel Gibson Slur Caught On Tape In Crazed Rage" While my boyfriend and I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous many of the things Mel said in the recordings were, at the time I'm sure Oksana was fearful of her life. I guess it's funny now. It's on tape. He's pretty screwed. |

Only your hairdresser knows for sure.
What's something you absolutely must keep clean/in good condition, even if everything around you has fallen to shit? |

Indeed. But this was also just coming out of the '80s (I was in kindergarten from 90-91, and went to pre-school there for a year or so before that), and no one thought of these things as obscene or wrong.
I just remembered that the teacher who did these things was probably in her 50s when this was going on and is likely dead now. |

Piratecat Tiki's jolly roger bandanna has been out on the roof for the last two weeks and no one's gone out to retrieve it. It looks all faded now.
Ninjacat Miko is always sleeping out in the open. Watched the crescent moon set while sitting out of the beach last night. I want to go out, but I'm stuck at home reading comics. Oh well.. |

The octopus was seriously only wrong once and it was back in 2008.
But Paul apparently announced his retirement yesterday. He's just going to go back to being an aquarium attraction. |

Read the fourth "Y:The Last Man" volume and the first volume of "Irreedeemable" yesterday. I started the eighth "Sandman" book, but it seemed be getting more and more difficult to read (it was simply too boring... sorry) and I was waiting to get picked up.
I think I'll finally read the three volumes of "Walking Dead" I've got, and then re-read the Marvel Mangaverse. Depends on the mood, I suppose. |

So I'm about 2/3-3/4 through Kevin Smith's "Batman: Cacophony." Joker's pretty sexually depraved in it, but it's typical of Smith to write that sort of thing in.
Onomatopoeia is the main villain, with Smith reprising the character since he created him for the Green Arrow comics (yay, Ollie!!!). It's not bad, pretty good actually. |

So, getting ready for Comic-Con down in San Diego. I'll be there Wednesday through Sunday (and without Internet the entire time). It's gonna be huge.
Been reading more comics and graphic novels again, and thankful for the library being air conditioned. On a side note, looks like the Westboro Baptist Church will be out there to picket. They're obviously just doing it for the publicity. |

Originally posted by Phoenix Their argument is pretty much idolatry, insinuating that we've become so enamored with superheroes and such that we're practically worshiping them. Like I said, it's bunk. They're jsut doing it because they know it's one of the most media-filled events in the United States. They've played the idolatry/blasphemy card several times before when there really wasn't a great reason to picket otherwise. Either way, they're probably also out to bask in the Southern California weather. I actually wish I was down in San Diego right now (it's in the freaking 70s, and it's just getting hotter where I am). I hope it's cold next week. We were reading it might be in the mid-60s. That would GREAT. |

"How am I supposed to eat this? With a STRAW?!"
- Man trying to figure out how to eat miso soup at a Japanese restaurant in Little Tokyo (Japanese part of Los Angeles) "Do you have sushi here?" *Looks on back of the menu and notices there's a few* "Ugh, do you have anything other than rolls? God..." - Uppity Hispanic woman, same place |

Yep.. fuck the heat. I keep trying to tell myself to be glad that AT LEAST we aren't Bakersfield, but it's still way too hot right now. It's times like these I miss having a room downstairs.
Fuck the people who drive so terribly in my town. I hate to continue the stereotype (especially being half-Asian myself), but Cerritos (and our neighboring town of Artesia) are heavily Asian and most people drive horribly and can't park for shit. Had way too much trouble trying to drive in and out of the library parking lot, and then had a bitch of a time trying to drive through the towne center. Oh for fuck's sake. |

Started the first volume of Robert Kirkman's "Walking Dead," continued to try to tackle the eighth "Sandman" book (but it still hasn't gotten any better), and am 3/4 through "Batman: Cacophony," which is probably the lightest and fastest read.
I've read a lot of Kirkman's other work ("Battle Pope," "Invincible," etc), and this was the first time I've tried to read the zombie books he's written, despite the fact that I bought the first three volumes at different Comic-Cons years back. They're all even signed by him since I threw them in with my "Battle Pope" books and "Invincible" comics. While I love Neil's work to pieces there are some Sandman books that are practically a chore to work through no matter how many fantasy creatures quirky plot devices he might throw in. "At World's End," which the 8th book, is pretty much people telling stories while they're waiting out a storm and in some way (typical in every Sandman book), they all have to do with dreaming. Morpheus has seriously become less and less a likable character for me, and I'd rather see more of the other Endless. Anyway, when it comes to Gaiman, I actually prefer his novels and other books. His graphic novels, while pretty, are really dry by comic book standards. They're good, but not my favorite. |
