Fuck you, school, you can't defeat me. Two classes down and three more to go. That's two assignments and one test left to do. Then I'm done with you for a month, and after that it's just one more semester. |

Yeah, Louis Theroux is pretty brilliant. I love the interviews he's conducted.

Yeah, it's a minuscule problem, but it's been going on for two days and it's obnoxious.

While it's been insightful having someone there, it's great to hear you're on your way back.

"Bread Givers." Can't remember the name of the woman who wrote it, but it makes me want to beat the shit out of her father (it was a semi-autobiographical book).

This one's been going around Facebook lately. Might as well fill it out here.
|
1. What time did you get up this morning? - 7-ish. 2. How do you like your steak? - Medium rare. Cooked and longer and it loses flavor. 3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? - The Warrior's Way. 4. What is your favorite TV show? - I have TONS of favorite shows, most of which have been canceled or ended on their own accord. Shows that I like that are still on the air, though: Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, House M.D., Hung, and Mythbusters. 5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? - Greece. I would live in a museum overlooking ruins and the ocean. 6. What did you have for breakfast? - Garlic and rosemary mashed red potatoes I made for dinner last night. 7. What is your favorite cuisine? - Greek. 8. What foods do you dislike? - Pickles, tripe, most Indian food, my parents' salmon burgers and mushroom chicken. 9. Favorite Place to Eat? - Arizona. All my absolute favorite restaurants are there. 10. Favorite dressing? - Creamy Caesar. 11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? - A Volvo 940. 12. What are your favorite clothes? - Renaissance faire garb. 13. Where would you visit if you had the chance? - I would take a sea voyage around the Mediterranean and hit up Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Italy, Croatia, Morocco, the south of France, and go through Gibraltar. 14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full? - Depends on the what it's full of. 15. Where would you want to retire? - See answers to questions 5 & 13. 16. Favorite time of day? - Early afternoon. 17. Where were you born? - Los Angeles. 18. What is your favorite sport to watch? - Don't have one. 19. 20. 21. 22. Bird watcher? - Not a professional one, but I'll stop and look at a bird if I see one. 23. Are you a morning person or a night person? - More morning than night these days. I tend to fall asleep closer to midnight now. 24. Do you have any pets? - Two no-good cats. 25. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share? - I don't know about exciting, but I just may graduate next semester. 26. What did you want to be when you were little? - A marine biologist. 27. What is your best childhood memory? - Best? All the vacations with my parents. 28. Are you a cat or dog person? - More cat, I suppose. But I would love a dog when I'm older. 29. Are you married? - God no. 30. Always wear your seat belt? - Yes. 31. Been in a car accident? - A couple. 32. Any pet peeves? - Many, other people. People talking during movies, performances, lectures, etc. is at the top of the list. 33. Favorite Pizza Toppings? - Really nice, gooey cheese. Get that right and it doesn't matter what else is on it. 34. Favorite Flower? - Kinda hard. All my life it's been hibiscus, but there are so many flowers in the world. 35. Favorite ice cream? - Cookies and mint, I suppose. These days I'm more into plain tart frozen yogurt with strawberries and blueberries. 36. Favorite fast food restaurant? - I despise pretty much all of the mainstream ones. I gotta go with the Heart Attack Grill in Arizona. 37. How many times did you fail your drivers license test? - The permit test twice. Never failed the driving test. 38. From whom did you get your last email? - My new employer. 39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? - Clear Creek Trading Post in Sedona, Arizona. If I could I would buy the store just to live in it. It has the most amazing view and it's filled with so many beautiful things. 40. Do anything spontaneous lately? - Heh, if you have to ask, you don't know me very well. The most recent was standing on rocky ledges over the ocean trying to recreate Caspar David Friedrich paintings. Seriously... 41. Like your job? - I start in January. I figure I will. 42. Broccoli? - If you give it to me in a cheesy, creamy soup form, I will love you forever. 43. What was your favorite vacation? - Hard to pick. Any of the ones to the Bay Area have proven fascinating, as has the time I spent in Europe. 2011 holds a lot of promise on this front. 44. Last person you went out to dinner with? - I would say my parents just now to a barbecue place, but that shouldn't count. I hadn't seen them in three weeks. Last night, with Brandon, to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. 45. What are you listening to right now? - The sound of silence. And computer keys clacking like Buddhist prayer beads. And Brandon on the phone in the next room. 46. What is your favorite color? - Process magenta. 47. How many tattoos do you have? - None. 48. 49. What time did you finish this quiz? - 11:44 p.m. 50. Coffee Drinker? - Yeah, but not so dedicatedly these days. I feel like I need some sort of syrup or flavored creamer now. (restricted) |

Thank you, random stranger (since you only signed the e-mail "TDA Unit") in the TDA office who's fucking with my degree audit ... in a good way. I e-mailed you about needing to count the geology class and subsequent lab I took at another school during the Summer '09 semester as it wasn't coming up as counting toward my science GE requirement.
|
Not only did you right this, you then took transferred classes from LBCC that were otherwise sitting and doing nothing and applied them toward the 15 unit non-comm requirement that I was working on with my American studies double major, rendering it useless toward that goal. I pretty much only have my internship left and don't actually need the other two classes I'm taking to finish up those 15 bullshit units you've now filled for me. Heh. Well, I'm not just going to dump that other major, but THANK YOU for your intended help. Other than the American studies department, you're the only kind official that's helping me graduate. Cause you know, fuck the College of Communications' academic adviser. But that's for another thread. Thank you, Tracy, Abel, Andrea, Caroline, and Gina for being excellent sources for a features story. Thank you, mom and dad for being there for me every step of the way, for picking me up when I fall down, and kicking my ass in one direction or another to make sure I completed my journey.

I always find child discipline to be a touchy subject because everyone has a really strong opinion about it in one way or another.
|
I was spanked. I had pepper poured down my throat by a grandparent. As I got older, I was just sent to my room. Personally, it seems to depend on the child. Some parents think taking away toys or raising your voice in any way is too harsh. I'm starting to take notes on Louis CK and what he says about "bad parents" around 6:25 in the video below: I will say this, though. What that woman in the first post did is pretty cruel and mentally-destructive. But I refuse to give Dr. Phil any credit for uncovering that. He's a huckster who only points out a problem and does nothing more than poke at it for ratings.

Shit, seriously?
|
I replayed "Devil May Cry" for the first time in the better part of a decade a few weeks ago and was amused with how all he really could do at the time was jump, shoot, swing sword/punch with Ifrit, and taunt. I mean, you got a few more if you upgraded with red orbs, but it was such a minimalistic game. Eh, we're spoiled.

Glad to know I'm not crazy. Well... probably not.

Fuck my onset of apathy. I've got two papers due Tuesday that I haven't started writing and a huge final tomorrow that I really should study for and I really just want to hike, eat, surf the web, drive to some random place, do NOTHING, and so on. It's like every time I finally get around to doing some reading or looking for a book or whatever, my brain shuts off and I start looking at what people are doing on Facebook. My latest endeavor led me to sitting at the computer for 3 hours cataloging everything I could remember doing in 2010 in a journal, before nagging Brandon that I wanted to go out and do something. Thirty minutes later I'm sitting on a stump, eating a hot dog wrapped in puff pastry, trying to read a book on a girl trying to make her way her in turn-of-the-century America and then going, "Ooooo, let's go to the merry-go-round." I'm such a punk. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-12-10 10:01 PM)

Do we have to convey our facts in macro form?
|
Gonna chance it and write a few anyway. Uh oh, getting risky. I draw giant squid in the margins of my notes; it used to be Mexican skulls with either flowers in their braids or sombreros. Every single paper I've turned in this semester was started less than 8 hours before it was due. I HATE people who, when you get up to leave an area because they and their friends are so loud and obnoxious you can't hear yourself think, take pride in this and "whisper" loudly, "Hahaha, we scared them away!" My boots are covered in red dust. I have read over 300 graphic novels, yet I've never read "300."
