| I've know started reading a sci-fi series by Jack McDevitt about a guy named Alex Benedict. It is really neat and kinda Sherlock-y in some ways, and there is a lot of fictional history.
The first book is called A Talent for War and I am reading the second book, Polaris right now. |

Geekiest thing I have done? I suppose getting super giddy about holding an Athenian owl coin from the 5th century. I mean, I've done a lot of geeky things as well... not as many as Rogue. But a lot. Oldest thing I own... that is kinda difficult to answer since there are some things I have that I don't really know the age of and I gave away a lot of things when I moved. I think the oldest thing I know I have for certain is a steel penny from WWII... '42 or '43 I think. Found it at work and took it home. My mom has a bunch of neat old coins that I will be fighting my brother for later, one of which is a penny from 1858... I really want it. What cheesy/campy/corny old tv show has made you want to facepalm the most? |

| Considering that half of the regional British accents are completely unintelligible , I really wouldn't take too much offense to it.
I mean, a lot of these things on the list are petty. Regular Americano is a product of Starbucks, blame them, not the country. My bad originated in eubonics. What is wrong with Train Station?! Do the maths? That sounds wrong and it seems they don't actually get the meaning. Things like "heads up on the issue" I have never heard of or heard anyone say. Has anyone ever heard the term "deplane"? Honestly to me it is like people who spoke Elizabethan English bitching about modern British English. A lot of the changes in American English from British English were made on purpose to separate ourselves from Britain after the Revolution... it's why we write color instead of colour and say zee instead of zed. Also, where is the lists bitching about Canadian and Australian English? |

I asked a question on facebook that mentioned the Life of Pompey (as in Pompey Magnus) by Plutarch. One of my friends replied with "Pompeii. It's spelled Pompeii." Pompeii is the city that was covered in ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Pompey was a Roman General who was first friends with and then fought against Caesar. Why would their be a book about the life of a city? How do you not remember there is a person with that name (which is pronounced differently than Pompeii in the first place)? I mean, I know California's education system sucks but I remember the name Pompey from high school. More specifically, when you are one of my friends and you know that I studied Rome for four years, how is it that you automatically assume that I would get the name wrong. Or are you that used to the morons in your art classes that you think you are just better than everyone else?

So far that seems to be my baby blanket (makes a great pillow when folded), and an alabaster kitty that my uncle sent me when I was like ten or so. I don't really know why I like that little carving so much, but it was on of the little nicknacks that I actually brought with me when I moved.

That would most likely be the Empyrean Odyssey series by Thomas Reid. Its a trilogy of Forgotten Realms novels that was a spin-off of a series that I really like. The plot was really weak, the characters were just badly written and I just hated it. I had high hopes for it since it seemed to be the series most likely to bring back a character I really liked, and they did, but in a really half-assed way that pissed me off.
