A 7.1 hit Japan today. Tsunami warning was issued and the reactor is apparently fine.
Did Russia repeatedly curse Japan 18 years ago or something? |

Originally posted by Elara When that came out over a year ago, everyone in my office kept greeting each other with, "Oh hi, _______!" in the same manner as the weird ass guy in that movie does. Yeah, it's pretty awful. There are several things that I partake in that other might call a "guilty" pleasure, but I don't feel guilty admitting. Like, say comic books. I feel like whenever I have to answer one of those ice breaker questions about things I'm into when I start a new class, there's ALWAYS someone who snickers about it. |

Keep up the good work, gotta pay the bills one way or another, congratulations! That's cool, interesting. Sorry to hear that, that's rough. Congratulations again; be a good, strong uncle for her. Congratulations once again, glad you kicked the habit.

WonderCon was surprisingly deficient in anime merch.
This weekend we're heading up to Ridgecrest to visit Brandon's dad, since he's moved even further away than Bakersfield. I've got the rough draft of a HUGE paper due in two weeks and I've been really stressed and worried about a lot of things right now. My internship employer also wants me to turn over a ton of writing. FUCK. |

I've been in a rather shitty mood lately, and this first video really made me stop and laugh and forget about my troubles for a minute. I replayed it over and over again at least 5 or 6 times.
If more people saw these videos, there'd be no war. EDIT: And you know, there's always this: (Last edited by Rogue on 04-13-11 11:27 AM) |

Fuck you even more, L.A. broadcast media.
Kobe Bryant makes top story. And then on top of that when they finally got to Obama's speech on healthcare they only show views on the speech voiced by Republicans and then spend another minute laughing about how Biden looked like he was dozing off during the speech. FUCK YOU SO MUCH. |

I am so incredibly bored right now. I'm waiting out the last hour of work.
OK, now I'm disturbed. This lady is talking rather loudly about her cancer treatment, the pain she's going through, and how she's started losing pubic hair. Anyway... Heading out of town this weekend to see Brandon's dad in Central California. Could be interesting. If all goes well the next three weekends will be spent at conventions. We'll see. With great pain in my heart to type, fuck you, university library.
I truly love my university library. Really. The GREATEST resource for paper-writing. They have helped me to no end. Most recently a librarian found a document I was looking for from 1949 that was only available in microfilm and she managed to find it off an obscure database, download the PDF and e-mail it to me. They got me the court records of the 1950s hearings against comic books, which I'm using for this big senior paper. And yet, yesterday I get this threatening message to return a book I need for said paper a month early because someone requested it. What? It's supposed to be due back May 25 and they're saying if I don't return it by Wednesday they're going to drop hefty fines onto my account, which would prevent me from graduating if I don't pay them immediately. I checked the system. There are two copies of the book and both have been recalled. Who is this person that's made it so the library is threatening people? Best of luck on the test, Elara. Unless you already took it. In that case, hope you did great.
It's been rather busy on this end. Spent Friday through Sunday in central California with Brandon's dad. Saturday was one of the greatest days of my life - went out early to hit up the thrift stores and found a bed warmer from the Chicken Ranch (this famous whorehouse that was in Texas that was shut down, but inspired a Broadway musical and movie) and the cleaned-up Star Wars VHS boxset (really it's the best version, because it's all the original stuff, clearer, and there's no added CG scenes or bullshit like that). After breakfast, we headed out in Brandon's dad's truck up to Fossil Falls (these volcanic rocks eroded by a river that has since dried up), up to Whitney Portal to see Mount Whitney, and then we visited Manzanar. It was really intense. Sunday was also pretty cool. Went to ghost towns and canyons before heading home. Yesterday was Brandon's and my seventh anniversary. We went to a freak show with all kinds of living animals with extra heads and legs, and all sorts of crazy, wonderful things. This week's insanely busy otherwise. Interviewing people tomorrow for a story, and taking pictures of the carnivorous plants at school on Thursday for work (as well as... yep, work) and then going to an Asian activist meeting. Friday, I'm watching my grandmother and shooting a Voidcrush show, and Saturday is a comic book convention and Brandon and I are being extras for a webseries. Got a 25-page rough draft due on Tuesday. I'm kinda excited about it. And worried. Yeah, worried. Need to write a story for work on steampunk before the weekend. Oh man... |

Listened to the new Weird Al song that got everyone pissed off about Lady Gaga's manager supposedly rejecting it.
As usual, I like his song better than the original. |

That Katy Perry song that goes, "Baby, You're a Firework!!!!" or whatever. It needs to stop getting played in every single commercial and everywhere else for that matter.
I went on a roadtrip a couple weeks ago with someone who, whenever the song came on the radio, would sing along with it loudly. Every line. Down to the stupid gasps Katy Perry does with the chorus. Now it's like that song is all over the place. That and that "Fuck You" song. It's a good song, but now it's WAY over-played. For crying out loud, William Shatner covered it. Also, I'm surrounded by people who shout, "FUCK YOU!!!!11!1!!!!!1" over the radio-edited one that replaces the line with "Forget You." (Last edited by Rogue on 04-21-11 10:59 AM) |

I'm going with option 3: guy convicted after police recognize that the massive tattoo on his chest was an illustration of an unsolved crime.

Finally saw Doubt. It was like watching an overly dramatic play with the ultra-obvious symbolism and direct connections and foreshadowing with the dialogue, and no definite ending.
It wasn't bad, but I could see why it didn't win Best Picture. |

Why hello, new song that keeps getting stuck in my head.
I keep catching myself humming this song ... CONSTANTLY. I'm walking around a museum humming it loudly to myself and didn't realize it until Brandon pointed it out. |

I've got a 25-page rough draft due tomorrow. It's 12:13 a.m. and I haven't started yet.
I'm the queen at fucking myself over. Also got an article on steampunk due to my editor tomorrow. Yeah... haven't started on that either. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-26-11 03:14 AM) |

On a whim read the first volume of "Priest" because I wanted to talk about the movie at this Asian-American media activist meeting since it's a Korean manga and Maggie Q kicks ass in it.
I saw a few clips at WonderCon - the acting is shite. The manga's pretty decent, though. Since I bought the first four volumes at a local comic shop for $5, I'll go through those before I decide to continue. |

The news of these tornadoes just keeps getting scarier and scarier.
I was just taking my lunch break at the university student union in front of a TV tuned to CNN and they were showing the wreckage left in the wake of this mile-wide, 600 hundred foot tall tornado that tore through Alabama. The death toll so far is 273, and it just keeps climbing. They said it was on its way through southern Georgia. I hope you guys are safe. |
