These people like to just pull the most shocking stuff and over-generalize, insisting that what a minority does is true for the whole and therefore they must be put to death and so on. Martin Ssempa is beloved by extremist American evangelists, especially for his demands that homosexuals be mass-murdered. I haven't heard what the WBC has to say about Ssempa, but I'm sure they'd still knock his ideals.

I was wondering if anyone here has done any work tracing their family history. Do you know about any of your ancestors?

My dad's sister is conducting research on our family genealogy and found that her 10th great grandfather (my 11th, obviously) was Stephen Hopkins. He had come to Jamestown, Virginia, after being involved in the shipwreck of the Sea Venture, which may have been one of the inspirations for Shakespeare's "The Tempest." He sailed back to England and came out with the Pilgrims on the Mayflower. Since he wasn't in with the Pilgrims' cause, he was one of "The Strangers." He's one of the original signatories of the Mayflower Compact. I just find this stuff fascinating. I previously only knew about my grandparents. My mother's father was a freedom fighter against the Japanese in the Philippines. His wife's brother, my great uncle, was previously captured by the Japanese and forced to walk in the Bataan death march to a concentration camp where he died. Anyone else have any stories? I'm so tired of fair-weather fans and these people who are just now finding out about something and f-ing killing it for the rest of us who were into it for years. Example: a certain pirate-themed metal band. I have two friends, who when both of them became interested in them (at different times), their MAIN DRAW was the fact that one of the guys was really cute. Not because of their music. No, no, no, no, no. The last couple shows I've been to for said band, the front was stormed by screaming girls, teenagers mostly or at least 20-somethings that act like they're 15. All of them just wanted to try and get the guys' attention by semi-flashing them and so on. When one of their girlfriends tried to get up to the front to get keys from them to put away her own equipment (since she played in the opening band), these bitchy girls start shoving her around thinking she's trying to get in front of them for the adoration. Anyway, I'm sick of it. It doesn't help that I frequent conventions and a majority of those who attend a few of them are teenage girls who latch on to anything and everything at one point or another and destroy any interest many fans might have in it. Just stick to Disney, Harry Potter, Twilight, Gaia Online, shonen-ai, Sailor Moon, Naruto, and apparently Dr. Who and Pirates of the Caribbean and leave the rest of us ALONE. Stop spreading!! I'm involved in an Asian American activist organization that's very concerned with this project. For one thing, the casting call put out seemed to ask specifically for white actors (listing later "or other" ethnicities). Anyway, the desired cast list supposedly had, among the names, Robert Pattinson for Tetsuo and Justin Timberlake for Kaneda. The most recent news came out today expressing that Keanu Reeves turned down the role of Kaneda. Racebending, which was all over the live-action The Last Airbender movie, has been pursuing this and is ready to cry foul when they do finally confirm that this is a case of white-washing after they inevitably don't cast Asians to play Asian characters. What are your thoughts?

I remember when Stephen Chow was briefly attached to Dragonball Evolution to direct. Back then I thought, "How bad could it be?" since I loved Stephen and his work so much. But then he backed out "for creative reasons."

Can't say as I blame him but he did the same thing with Green Hornet, of which he was also supposed to direct and play Kato simultaneously. Back to Akira, Warner Brothers is arguing that it's going to take place in New Manhattan instead of Neo Tokyo. Yeah! A valid excuse for everyone to be white, AFTER ALL. All is forgiven, right? 
I seriously just hope that this folds in the concept art stage like live-action Evangelion did back in 2004. While Weta was doing all these drawings of camel toe-emphasizing plug suits on girls named Ray and Kate Rose, fans were already throwing a fit about Shiunji not being played by an Asian boy. Seriously, though. Camel toe...

Fuck this absolutely shit-tastic job market. Brandon has been unemployed for several months now and every time he gets past the interview stage they send him some sort of card saying they've decided to hire other applicants.

For what we're hearing, if you've been unemployed for too long, employers look down on you and won't even give your application or qualifications a second glance. And there are SO MANY people who've been unemployed for so long because they can't catch a break. This is just beyond frustrating right now, especially since I'm entering the full-time job market soon myself.

I just finished watching Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. The last time I saw it was at the drive-in with my parents when I was a really little kid. They were replaying it in a double-feature with Peter Pan.
