Because they are bastards. I know your pain, since I had something like that happen to me a few years ago. They spent like $365 in a wine store in New Jersey. My credit union moved really fast to get it all back, it just sucked because it was literally the day before we went on vacation for a week and I had no debit card the entire time. You really find out just how few places take checks anymore in those situations. |

What have you done in 2011 that you have never done before?

A few things, actually. Saw live ice carving, went to a Penguins game, saw a goalie fight, tried haddock (type of fish), tried Yeungling (type of beer), drove across the Appalachian mountains, went to Hershey, road a pully car up a large hill, got lost in Pittsburgh, went to the Strip District (giant farmer's market thing), worked underground, worked in a grocery store, drove in snow, stayed up longer than 26 hours, went to Applefest, saw Alice Cooper and ZZ Top, Found white/grey hairs, Set foot in North Carolina and Philadelphia, saw the Grand Canyon and the Rocky Mountains, experienced turbulence, saw whales in person, spoke at a funeral, and visited California. Did you keep your new years resolution from this year, and will you make one for next year? - Nope. Same one of losing weight... hopefully I will have better luck. Did anyone close to you give birth? - Friends of mine gave birth, a lot of them, but I don't know if I'd say "close to me" friends. Did anyone close to you die? - My grandmother and great uncle Where did you travel to in 2011? - Pittsburgh, Franklin, Harrisburgh, and Hershey, Pennsylvania. Flew back to Long Beach for a funeral, with layovers in Charlotte, NC and Philadelphia. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011? - Steady employment for myself as well as Ben and his mom. What dates from 2011 will you have etched in your memory, and why? - July 4th for the Regatta we went to, Yule (grandma's death), Christmas day (flight to Cali), New Years Eve (flight home) and the days in between. What was your biggest achievement of the year? - Passing all the exams I needed to with flying colors What was your biggest failure? - Finding a steady job that pays well. Also, not hounding the school from the start for dragging their feet. Did you suffer injury or illness? - Nothing out of the ordinary What was the best thing you bought? - My bed, hands down. I love not having to sleep on the futon anymore. Whose behavior merited celebration? - Nelrith. He has been more than amazing this year, and I am lucky to call him friend. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? - The vast majority of the people around me, as well as all politicians. Where did most of your money go? - Cost of living, and books. What did you get really, really, really excited about? - Going back to California for a visit. What song will always remind you of 2011? - "Downtrodden" by Abney Park Compared to this time last year, you are: a) Happier or Sadder? - Sadder b) Thinner or Fatter? - Fatter. c) Richer or Poorer? - Much poorer What do you wish you would have done more of? - Exercised. Wrote more. What do you wish you would have done less of? - Sit around and snack on things How did you spend New Year's Eve? (December 31, 2010) - We had just moved into the new house and were unpacking things. We did go out to dinner at North Country Brewery. How did you spend New Year's Day? (January 1) - Still unpacking How did you spend Valentine's Day? (February 14) - I don't really remember... I think Ben and I went out to dinner somewhere. How did you spend St. Patrick's Day? (March 17) - Went to Garfield's Restaurant and Pub for lunch and super cheap Irish carbombs and green beer. How did you spend Easter? (April 24) - I didn't celebrate it. How did you spend Cinco de Mayo? (May 5) - Just doing whatever. Getting Mexican food is hard here. How did you spend the 4th of July? (July 4) - Went to Pittsburgh for the Regatta. Walked well over five miles, saw a nice Springsteen cover band, got rained on, and saw awesome fireworks... oh, and played craps at the casino. How did you spend Patriot Day? (September 11) - Working. It's not a fucking holiday, so don't call it that. How did you spend Talk Like a Pirate Day? (September 19)? - Working. How did you spend Halloween? (October 31) - Working, sleeping, passing out candy to the kiddies in my witch hat, then working again. How did you spend Thanksgiving? (November 24) - Had a nice dinner with Ben and his mom. That is it, really. How did you spend Christmas? (December 25) - Boarding a plane at five in the morning, and flying to LAX. Then dinner with the family and sleep. Did you fall in love in 2011? - With various things, yes. Oh, Skyrim, how I love thee. What was your favorite TV show? - Game of Thrones!!!! Rizzoli and Isles was also quite good, as was Terra Nova, Modern Family, and this season of Dexter. What was your least favorite show of 2011? - Pretty much everything else. No one thing stands out though. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? - Uh... not really, no. What was the best book you read? - Tough call between A Dance with Dragons and Cold Vengence What was your greatest musical discovery? - That world chorus thing. What did you want and get? - Authentic Penguins jersey of Marc-Andre Fleury What did you want and not get? - Competent school officials, a decent job that left me free time, and a happier fiance. What was your favorite film of this year? - Hard question. I saw several films this year but they were all fairly even.... What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? - I was 27, and we went out to dinner at the brewery... and then went to work. What is one thing that would have made your year more satisfying? - Better success on moving forward with the campground plans, and not being unemployed for eight months of the year. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2011? - Fashion concept? WTF? Uh... jeans, long-sleeved undershirt, and band shirt? What kept you sane? - Facebook, working on Cobalt Nightmares, this board, and skype chats with Nelrith, Yasu, and Belial... and occasionally Bitmap. What celebrity/Public figure did you fancy the most? - Marc-Andre Fleury What political issue stirred you the most? - The circus freakshow better known as the GOP primaries. What news story was the most overblown? - Anything involving Charlie Sheen. Don't fucking care. (I second this!) Who do you miss? - Every single person I left in California. Did you reconnect with anyone? - A few friends I hadn't talked to in awhile. Tell us a life lesson you learned in 2011. - When dealing with school officials, bug them daily until the task you need is done. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. - "I've been beat, I've been broken I asked for a place, the world has spoken I was asleep, but now that I've woken, I preferred my dream. It will take great strength to pull me through, This challenge unseen, which I must do. To make a "me" I never knew, But I'm already spent. " What plans do you have for 2012? - School, work, possibly going to my high school reunion. Parents are coming out to visit in the summer, so that should be fun. What are your resolutions for 2012? - Same as before, try to lose weight, get in shape, and keep sane. What will you be doing for New Year's Eve? - Already passed. I spent it on planes and in airports flying home. I hate Philly's airport. We picked up Subway and watched the ball drop while drinking apple cider.

Also, a giant fuck you to Slippery Rock University for having the SHITTIEST parking I have ever seen! Each "commuter" lot is fucking tiny and half is taken up by staff parking. I showed up two hours early and spent an hour hunting for parking, finally having to park on the opposite side of campus and the hike uphill to my first class in 9mph winds at like 16 degrees after windchill. I feel like I am going to fucking puke! I swear I am asking Ben to just drop me off and pick me up after today, I don't care if I am out the $25 on the parking pass, I am not going to deal with this bullshit.
