| I had a feeling that it was her. And yeah, it is really annoying.
The book isn't the main textbook at least, but it is one of those "read, write a review" type books. What is sad is that this was written by a historian... granted it is a Medievalist writing a summary of Antiquity, so there is going to be bias... but holy shit! As I have gotten further into the book he's gotten a little better, or at least less offensive. He actually made the comparison of modern America to the Roman Empire, so I respect him on that part. Plus, while he seems to have major hate towards Greece and Rome (major hate), he doesn't seem to favor Christians either so it's been amusing reading that chapter. There was a subtle calling of Jesus a Gentile (a non-Jew for those not familiar with the term), but I don't know if that was intentional or not. |

| I have my own "Fuck today" story....
Bit of a lead in... for those that haven't heard or have forgotten (don't think it's possible, but just in case), I've been dividing all of my time between two jobs (Giant Eagle and Iron Mountain) and school. Giant Eagle is a grocery store chain where I slave away as a cashier for $7.75/hr and they seem to think it's cool to just NOT give you your breaks when the store gets busy... unless you're a minor, then the law makes you. Iron Mountain is an imaging company where I temp as a file clerk during a midnight shift, and other than the nepotism and falseness of people there it is actually a nice job (and the pay is much better, too). Before school started, I was at Iron Mountain five days a week and at Giant Eagle the other two. With school, I took two days off from Iron Mountain in hopes to survive my hectic schedule. Two weeks of 40+ hour days and NO time to do homework later, and I asked Giant Eagle to take me off the schedule for the semester. The management told me that if I wanted off, I would have to resign and be rehired later. My supervisor, being the awesome chick that she is, said fuck that and we would try having me work every other week, either one or two days. Then I get word that Iron Mountain plans to shift the midnight shift (all four of us) to the afternoon shift starting next week because the normal employees didn't want to work as supervisors for midnight anymore. That worked out really good for me because it meant I would have a normal sleep schedule again and we would still have work. I let my supervisor at GE know what was up because of availability changes and that was that. Then they shifted the move to the week after next because they needed to finish scanning the stuff we'd be working on. Okay, fine. Then today happened. Today was my only day at Giant Eagle this week, with next week being my first week off on the biweekly thing. So from the start, I didn't want to be there. I have a book to finish reading so I can write a review on it, a quiz to take, and a bunch of other shit. But I said I'd work it, so I was there. It snowed today, so it was busy as hell with people going "OMG SNOW! HORDE!!!" like they are some kind of fucking giant squirrels. My first register was the really shitty one. No phone, and the hook that holds the bagging thingy is bent so it falls easily. I had no bagger and had a HUGE order. Lady was really nice and helped a bit, but for the most part it was just me. The bag thingy fell on my foot, and I made a joke about getting the register that was falling apart. She laughed. As I was doing her coupons, the register crashed. We decided to wait for it to reboot rather than go to another register and rescan it all again. That took ten minutes. Got a few more coupons in, it crashed again. Took five minutes to reload this time. Got all but the last coupon scanned, this time noting the total each time just in case. Saved the second problem coupon for last, and sure enough it crashed a third time. I had the total though, so I moved to another register, ran the last coupon without trouble, she paid and went on her way. A great sport, really. Hours go by. I should get my break... it's busy, so I don't. I'm half used to this, and I'm annoyed. I get more annoyed when I see that everyone else gets their breaks, including the coordinator... because they always make sure they get their break. I'm livid, and half thinking of just quitting at this point because I'm sick of this shit. More hours pass, it's time for what should be my lunch and I get told to go right after the cashier next to me gets back from his break. I have two orders waiting when he does, so I go to finish them. The first one has a coupon that crashes the register again. She opts to wait as well. The people behind her don't want to wait in another line, so they join us in waiting ten minutes for the system to reboot. Comes up just fine, gives no more problems, I get the second order done and they all go on their merry way while I go to my lunch. Hot Foods is closed by this time, so I go for a dinky turkey wrap with grapes thing. I check my phone and I see I have a missed call from a local number and a voicemail. It's Manpower, the temp agency that I go through to work at Iron Mountain, telling me the "project has ended and I won't be going back next week" and if I have any questions to call them back. The call came in two hours before... when I should have had my fucking break. Their office closed an hour after that call, and they won't be in until Monday morning. I call Ben and ask if they got called too... they did not. Okay, partially good news. And I have this job, so it's not too bad... and I have time to do homework. But, I am still enraged. Why? Well, because they made this whole big thing about moving all of us, and how this would be really good for me with my schedule and whatnot and basically never gave my any indication that I was getting laid off. If they had just told me, I'd have been fine. If they had told Manpower the reason, I'd have been fine... but to get handed the line "the project has ended" when I know for a fucking fact that it hasn't just infuriates me! And then Ben and his mom are kinda confused since they aren't certain if that means they are laid off as well, though probably not, and what the hell? Hopefully they can find answers come Monday morning when they get off work... but yeah... I am so fucking sick of this shit. One job seems to think that they can just treat their employees as slave labor and pay us a pittance for it, and the other is apparently run by the most two-faced assholes known to the universe. So yeah, fuck Iron Mountain, fuck Giant Eagle, fuck Pennsylvania, and fuck my life! |

| I watch it, and honestly I don't think many fans are surprised. They kinda jumped the shark last season, so we all kinda saw it coming. I'm pretty sure I remember hearing this was going to be the last season right before it started, actually.

| Holy shit, Phoenix post!
Um... I just kinda always liked writing. The first thing I did was some school project in like third grade where we had to write a little storybook about a duck and that was really fun. Then I remember writing a story when I was in like seventh or eighth grade that I eventually trashed. Ninth grade had a lot of "use these vocabulary words in a story" assignments that really kicked my love of writing into high gear. I got As on all those papers, by the way. I don't think we really did much in class again until my senior year, and then it was another of those vocab papers and I decided to go all out with it. By that point I'd already become a gamer and had created my namesake character http://xeogaming.org/newreply.php?id=13830(Elara started as a D&D character for those of you that didn't know) and I'd created a huge backstory for her... and I decided to use that as my story... and to write a trilogy of books on her. The story went over well, and I worked on it for awhile after that... but then changes to the world of D&D (cough4theditioncough) trashed that idea. I'd already kinda put it on the backburner for Darkfang at that point anyway. Darkfang... well.... the idea just kinda came to me while sitting in my college English class one day. I started darting down notes and writing stuff and that was that. I still mean to finish it one day as well, but I've been kinda sidetracked by a different and much more pressing major project: Cobalt Nightmares. It's a LARP that my friends and I developed and is 95% my creation as far as the world goes. I've created the world, it's history, the cultures, gods, two languages (roughly), and a database of names that is going on 10 pages now. I do plan to write a novel in that world as well, I've just been lazy... and now there is school. !X!: Where the fuck have you been? You need to post more, because it's been far too long. |

So the official reason I was laid off was because I was "doing school work".... the work never got in my way, I did just as much work as before, at the same quality, in fact I think I actually did more work. I did more work that anyone else at my station on the other shifts at any rate. Other people go off and talk for twenty minutes at a time and do no work at all, I read while doing my work. Furthermore, you never indicated that it was a problem, and even seemed approving of it. So fuck you. The best part is "they will not be asking me back"... which might account to being fired. I don't really know. I called and left a message for the manager to call me back and clarify... never called. And then there are rumors that are going around that I was the one what quit, because I couldn't handle work and school. I don't know who started them, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the two-faced bitch that fired me. I hope she slides off the road and into the river on her way to work one day. |

| I saw this video. Firstly, the daughter is stupid bitch. Secondly, shooting your daughter's laptop is excessive. Cathartic, yes, but excessive. Bragging about it being hollow point rounds makes you appear to be a gun nut. And if you're angry enough to do that, then it is logical to think you might do something to your kid.
I was raised by old school parents. I was beaten with a leather belt for crying. My parents didn't give me one or two swats, they swung until all their anger had been worked out or their arm got tired. I think I turned out just fine. However, I still consider what they did physical abuse. I consider the things that they said to me emotional abuse. You know why? Because it was. This guy... I don't think he's an abusive parent. I think he's just an incompetent one that doesn't know how to talk to or handle his kid. Anger never works. Ever. And by shooting that laptop, he just made it worse, because that will just piss her off more. |

| Hockey games, mostly. I've not had much time for fun activities lately with school and work. Though when I did have the time we went to museums, checked out national landmarks, and went to concerts and stuff in Pittsburgh. What part of PA are you going to? I know there is much more fun stuff on the eastern side of the state near Philly.
What inspires me? That is an interesting question. I suppose my dislike of failure for one thing, as well as the satisfaction of getting things done and done well. For my writing, it's a bit harder to define... just whatever really sounds interesting. A simple idea can spawn a huge backstory leading up to it, that kinda thing... I suppose I can blame the history training for that. Phoenix: What do you mean you cut off part of your thumb? Details, man! |
