Originally posted by Twilight Sparkle I love it! Breast cancer is a serious reality for me. It runs on both sides of the family. The more people interested in the topic, be it contributing toward research or at least keeping it in mind, the better the chances of finding a cure or preventing deaths because people would be more aware to check themselves out. Her saying something like, "That's so cheesy. Can I get some wine with this cheese, please?" turned me off to her and I just felt sorry for the guy who went to A LOT of trouble getting a hundred people to learn this dance.
Anyway, so long as he's happy. |

What the hell, Fox? This isn't the first time the Simpsons has been in peril over pay, but haven't they learned anything when they put out those casting calls for Futurama as a way to scare them into taking less money when the show came back? Seriously voice actors are among the most taken for granted talent out there, whether or not you think the show is still funny these days. EDIT: Apparently Michael C. Hall who plays Dexter was offered $20 million for two more seasons, and has demanded $24 million. Neither side is budging. The Simpsons actors make $8 million a season and are being forced to take a 45% cut. (Last edited by Rogue on 10-04-11 08:03 PM) |

Dad booked some of the tours finally, including a day-trip to the Pyramids.
Brandon's mom is on her way to pick us up for dinner (she's normally in Arizona), and we're getting dinner with her and Brandon's Aunt Michelle. Michelle is having a baby shower this weekend. Looks like both mommy and baby are doing well, and with any luck Brandon will FINALLY have a cousin. Michelle and her husband, Miguel, have been trying so hard to conceive having had multiple miscarriages and one very upsetting abortion (the baby had a one-in-a-million spinal disease and would have died at birth ). I'm so happy for her and Miguel!! In other news, my friend Steffan (aka "Elfboy" in Rocky Horror circles) was an extra in the latest episode of House. Also, got to spend a good chunk of the weekend with my mom's best friend (this woman she went to school with in the Philippines who now lives in Australia). She'd previously been diagnosed with liver cancer, which is in remission, and we took her around L.A. again. Good stuff. |

Went to see the newly opened Terra Cotta Warriors of Xi'an exhibit at the Bowers this weekend ($25 a ticket, but it was the first Sunday of the month so admission was free).
There were only four of the warriors this time around. Three years ago, when they were sent from China, there were maybe 10. |

I wish they allowed photography when I saw the piece of the Titanic at the Science Center too.
When I was at the Arizona Capitol Museum in Phoenix I snuck a touch of the piece of the USS Arizona on display. God, I'm a nerd. |

Super-duper anal-rape explosion FUCK whoever this guy is who calls himself "Moz."
Evidence: My boyfriend's band was tapped to play this "music festival" this Moz guy was putting together and promoting. At first he said it would have this one well-known metal band headlining and it would all be held at the Ramona Bowl. Then when Brandon contacted the venue, they said they'd never heard of this Moz guy. Never deterred, Moz then made excuses that he was only considering the Ramona Bowl, but was now going to build his own stage in the middle of the Mojave Desert and have all these other headliners (whom Brandon looked up and noted were already booked the weekend of this so-called festival). Anyway, Moz wanted all the bands to sell tickets (at $20 apiece and give him the money beforehand) and sign contracts. This shit: Note that there's no protection for the bands who sign this and that he doesn't give a specific amount to be paid for those in breach of contract. Pretty much this shitfuck owns your soul. Thankfully, Brandon's bullshit detector went off early and not only did they not turn over the ticket money, but they didn't sign the contract and dropped out. Unfortunately, other bands (most of which are unsigned, and therefore mostly inexperienced) did not pick up the scent and drove 350 miles roundtrip out to the desert to find NOTHING there. No real stage, no power, no food, no water, no vendors, no fans, no port-o-potties, NOTHING. Not even Moz was there. And suddenly Moz is not answering his phone, his websites have all disappeared (although I was able to pull up older archived pages with the Wayback Machine and grab some extra contact info on him), and NO ONE even knows his real name. The event's Facebook page were a lot of shit is going down: Link Why am I pissed if I wasn't personally affected? Because this is bullshit! People like this shouldn't be allowed to EVER get away with their shit. My friends and I are livid, and looking into what we can do to help. |

I don't have cable, but based on what I'm seeing in these clips I looked up, any time you see a disc in ancient art it MUST be a UFO. You know, not the sun.
I don't know. I don't really go for hokey, fakey history documentaries. Not that I don't believe in aliens, I mean, there's gotta be other life out there, it's just this comes off as conspiracy theory grasping that I'm a bit annoyed is on the History Channel at all. |

We have some sort of address for him (the bands are looking into legal means, and an address would be necessary) by looking up his now defunct site in a who is search: Link.
Not sure if it's really Moz's or not. |

I've been a bit inactive lately (well, inactive for me), seeing as I've actually been leaving the house.
Was barely home at all Saturday and Sunday. Went hiking/semi-rock climbing Saturday at Vasquez Rocks, where a lot of movies and TV shows have filmed (including Star Trek, Power Rangers, and so on). Sunday, went to a museum (post about it in "History Geeks Unite" thread), and took our friend from Australia around L.A. The rest of the time has been spent with Brandon's family that's in town getting ready for the baby shower this coming Saturday. Well, since it's Xeo's birth month, I guess we better get to work on a mass shred session. |

I've met the WBC. I've spoken with Shirley Phelps-Roper myself, and oddly enough she was SUPER nice. And honestly, I didn't feel like it was just a nice-for-the-camera sort of cordiality. Of course the moment my interview was done, some other guy jumped in to talk with her and she chewed him out for trying to put her down for her beliefs.
Now, does that mean I don't believe they're media whores? Fuck no. They're pretty much just picketing things for the attention, and that's absolutely pathetic. I truly doubt they fully believe all the things they put on signs, and this is all because their patriarch, Fred Phelps, insists they conduct their bullshit. All the same, it's hard to believe they can live with themselves after all the grief they put the loved ones of deceased soldiers and celebrities through. They argue that funerals are an exercise in worshiping the dead, which is blasphemy in their corrupted minds. So I'm wondering what they're going to do when Fred finally kicks the bucket. Elara: I'm not entirely sure what's going on with the other bands in terms of getting the cops and lawyers involved. Since no one has Moz's name, I'm not sure if they know where to send the subpoena or even a squad car. (Last edited by Rogue on 10-09-11 11:57 AM) |
