Anyway, since we've got a thread for the History Geeks, figured we could also include one for talking about things we're into in the scientific fields. Perhaps things we've seen or read lately. It's a pretty open forum. Feel free to post your science macros, jokes, and so on. Went to NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab yesterday. So cool. Got to visit Mission Control, fabrication, the Space Craft Assembly clean room, see some of the robots, and a few working Mars Rover prototypes and replicas. They're really excited about the new rover, Curiosity, landing on Mars in a couple months.

Annoying part was the guy texted Brandon another two times that night, AFTER my e-mail.

The next morning, he e-mails a reply going, "Void crush? Got it. Have a nice day," as though to say thanks to my bitchiness he won't book the band any more. The band all agree that's no loss whatsoever (he booked them for one show in Rosemead that was pretty much just the other bands playing that night as the audience and for the most part they didn't want to stick around to watch anyone else play). Anyway, went about figuring how to block numbers from calling/texting you. Thankfully with Verizon, it's free. You're just limited to 5 blocked numbers, and you have to re-list them after 90 days. However if we had AT&T, that's $5/month to maintain a block list of numbers. Anyway, fuck pants tearing when you're walking a long distance and at the end of the day it feels like your thigh has been repeatedly dragged across a cheese grater.

It's been a pretty geeky week for me, science wise. Watched the Venus transit, visited JPL, and watched the grunion run. Here in California, we have a species of fish that wash themselves on shore on some of our beaches in the middle of the night to spawn during certain nights of the year. The female burrows into the sand to lay her eggs and the males wrap around her and squirt the milt (semen) all over her.

I don't have anything that really comes out of the skin like a mole, honestly. 3. Who was the hottest teacher you ever had? - Robert McLain. Had him for history, and oh my god was he awesome, especially when reading Middle Eastern poetry with his Southern accent. 4. Have you ever made out in a movie theater? - Trying to remember... I think I have. But it was a long time ago. 5. What body part do you wash first? - Hair. 6. Do you hover over the toilet in public bathrooms? - No. But sometimes when it calls for it. 7. What's the strangest talent you have? - That's a bit difficult since it really all depends on what you consider strange. I picked up knife-throwing pretty quickly, I guess. 8. Did you French kiss before you were 16? - Yes. 21. Have you ever been cow-tipping or snipe-hunting? - Nope. 22. Who is the last person you usually think about before you fall asleep? - I don't think about anybody. Otherwise I probably wouldn't fall asleep. 23. Have you ever had a poem or a song written about you? - Poem, yes. Song, no. 24. If you had to choose to not ever wash your bed sheets again or not wash your bath towel ever again, which would you rather not wash? - Bed sheets. My bed rarely has sheets on it to begin with, and secondly I would be so grossed out using the same towel twice. 25. Have you ever found anything in your parents' bedroom that was questionable? - No. 26. What was your childhood nickname? - Tetine. Only my parents and my mom's side of the family called me that. 27. When is the last time you played the air guitar? - Never. At least no time that I can recall. Brandon does it in his sleep, though. 28. Have you ever peeked in the opposite sexes locker room? - I've walked there it several times, but when we were in Israel, visiting the Dead Sea you could just see naked, old men walking around while the locker room door was open. 29. What's the weirdest thing you have done while driving? - Started yelling things that X-wing pilots shout during the attack on the Death Star ("I can't shake him!") and driving erratically when this guy kept tail-gating me and swerving around behind me. 30. Have you ever bitten your toenails? - No. I don't bite nails, in general. 31. How do you eat your cookie? -  With my teeth.
32. When working out at the gym, do you wear a belt? - The TWO times I've worked out "the gym," I did not wear a belt. 33. Name something you do when you're alone that you wouldn't do in front of others. - Take a shower. 36. How many drinks does it take before you get drunk? - Depends on what it is. I've only been drunk once and that was after drinking 10 beers in quick succession in under an hour. I can get tipsy off 5 shots of black rum. 37. Have you ever sniffed an animal's butt? - Uh.. No? 38. How often do you clean out your ears? - Every day, at least. 39. Do you scrunch or fold your toilet paper? - It's a methodical, folding-like scrunch. 40. About how many times a day do you pick a wedgie? - 0-1. This meme isn't so much "random" as it asking useless TMI questions. 41. Do you have any strange phobias? - The dark, mannequins, being stuck in crowds and not being able to physically escape a place I'm stuck in. 42. What is the stupidest thing you've ever done at a bar? - Was kissed by a cougar who insisted on giving me a Jagermeister hat. 44. FunnyJunk, one of those sites that people post other people's work onto (minus their watermarks, credit, permission, etc), is threatening to sue TheOatmeal for his rant against them.

A year ago, TheOatmeal posted about FunnyJunk publishing his comics on their site, making sure to crop out/erase his website from the bottoms of the images. People link to these posts and FunnyJunk collects on the ad revenue from all the page clicks. Recently, FunnyJunk hired a lawyer to threaten TheOatmeal for allegedly spreading false accusations and damaging their reputation, demanding $20,000 from him or they would drag him to court. SOURCE TheOatmeal then put forth that he has begun raising donations for the $20,000 (he's gone from $16,000 to $27,000 in the last hour), but saying that he will donate half to the National Wildlife Federation and the other half to the American Cancer Society. 
Seriously, though, $20,000 for what? Blackmail? Give us this money or else? I almost want to see this go to court and have the judge laugh at them and demand FunnyJunk LLC pay TheOatmeal. (Last edited by Rogue on 06-11-12 08:20 PM)

With how much the Lakers win things and I don't give a shit, it's so nice to finally feel some local pride for a team outside of baseball.

Plus, outside of a few fist fights, the hockey fans were, ironically, MUCH BETTER behaved after the win. Were this a Lakers championship, police cars would be flipped over and burning and all the local businesses would be looted with most of the stuff dumped in the street and burned.
