| Had the, thankfully, last awkward Christmas with Kaleb's family. He actually had to text his aunt to have her husband shut the fuck up because I was ready to walk out of the house and leave. Apparently, LA is infested with Mexican gang lords (as in all Mexicans are gang members and drug dealers) and they will slit Kaleb's throat... "like them darkies down in Pittsburgh."
His aunt also made comments about the gangs and Mexicans. But she noticed my face go wooden immediately and commented that I clearly didn't find it funny, which I answered, "No, no I don't." Kaleb even added that most of my family is Mexican, which made her stop... but the uncle continued on. He also apparently thinks that all pit bulls should be shot in the head. All of them. At least his dad's side is mostly sane. And their party was overall better. |

Honestly, it makes me mad that there are people that take advantage of your kind nature. I think that the best day Kaleb had out there on our trip was the day with you and Lee taking us around (aside from dying in the heat of Pasadena). You care, and you put thought into things. People using that against you, or flaking with the lamest of last minute excuses just makes me want to punch them. Can I punch them? At least in my mind? |

| Space Magic is a good point. And I think a lot of the issues with the plot otherwise were because there was not much communication between JJ and Rian going into writing the script for TLJ so threads that JJ left in TFA were changed or ignored and it seemed a bit off because of that. Totally agree that JJ is better than the guy who did Jurassic World... cause yeah... no. Even though I was half expecting a riff from Beastie Boys to end up in the soundtrack of TFA somewhere when I heard he was doing it.
I guess I am one of the people that feels the new trilogy would have benefited from coming up with a trilogy arc idea before writing the scripts so there was development and overall cohesion... granted, Carrie passing would have forced a rewrite of Episode IX anyway. I just hope they give Leia a good end. |

| Currently working through Fire and Fury because I just had to read about the trainwreck... it is a hard read. I am reading it out loud for Kaleb's benefit, so we have to take a break after a few chapters and just go, "Wow... just... wow."
Also read The Bear and the Nightengale by Katherine Arden for the book club I got roped into. It was a very interesting and fast read based around Russian folk tales. It is also the first book in a trilogy, and I admit that I kind of want to get the other two books now... I hesitate only because of the move and the fact that the kindle version is more expensive than the paperback. Side rant... seriously, how can publishers justify the e-book edition costing the same or more than the physical copy? There is no material cost! No paper, no shipping! It is ridiculous! I am not saying it should be free or, like, $1... but 1/2 to 3/4 price would be a far more reasonable amount. |

| I have not heard anyone make this claim, and I don't know if I would agree with it. One the one hand, in terms of effects and such, yes... we can do a lot more now than we could before... but we have lost some things in doing that. Game of Thrones can make a dragon fly, but Star Trek TNG made a borg cube out of bits of model kits that looked pretty damn realistic and intimidating... I don't think you can find many people who can do that now. Pixar makes great CGI animated movies, but can anyone do the old style animation or stop motion? In short, we have advanced, but I think we also got lazy.
And don't even get me started on how repetitive shows have become... how many Law and Order or CW Superhero shows do we need? Side note on that book group... we read one book a month, because "more is too much". I will have to look into some of those titles. For March I suggested "The Martian Chronicles"... I and the other heavy reader voted for it at least. My April suggestion is "Children of Blood and Bone"... let us see how that one goes. In case you are wondering why it took such a long time between starting my second playthrough and finishing it... well.... I may have had a small addiction with Stardew Valley on the Switch for a bit. I never did get into Harvest Moon or any similar games but I have to say that it is surprisingly easy to get sucked in.

Fuck you new club... I don't even know where to begin on it. Fuck that I lost my hard drive with ALL my stuff on it. Now I have to scrounge to find important documents. Fuck that Kaleb still hasn't been able to find work, despite applying to multiple places every day since we got here. The little dark voice in the back of my mind is really starting to get to me with the whispers that moving was a mistake and I've doomed us both. Fuck that voice.
