| I know it's only temporary, but when I work conventions I put in 20 hour days.
This past weekend, I was working on 2 hours of sleep or less a night and really, REALLY sore feet. Last night was the first in a week that I've dreamed. It's good to finally get the REM sleep going. |

Visiting the bridge over a flood control, off which the T-1000 drove a truck while chasing John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. 
Visited the LAPD Museum. Here's the full-body armor worn by the North Hollywood rampage shooters. 
Shooting at zombie targets with an AK-47. 
Me with my target. I had one miss (by about an inch), one in the chest, and the rest were all headshots. 
Dinner was just Scottish bridie with whiskey gravy. It was a pretty OK day, overall. |

The reason being because my name is "Christine." When it's shouted out the emphasis goes on the "stine" portion. Thus when people call out "Steve," I almost always turn around. |

| Oh, I wasn't trying to call you on complaining, only saying I feel you on the lack of sleep. My own situation was pretty temporary since it only lasted last Thursday through Sunday.

| I just looked at the target. That miss was up against the hair on the left, so while it wasn't a headshot, it was closer than I thought.
Anyway, I still only consider myself a beginner. There were people on the range who were so terrible and stupid, they shouldn't have been trusted with anything more than a BB gun. I'm glad we made it home. |

The polar vortex is causing record high heat in Northern California, which isn't used to it this time of year. Hell, summers in San Francisco can be cold. | Thank you, NCR Ranger cosplayer (pictured below, screen-capped from a video I found). I peace-bonded your pistol and flag at the con this past weekend, we had a small talk about "Fallout" and how there are more gatherings on the eastcoast than here in the west and you gave me a Nuka Cola cap before heading out to enjoy the convention. The cap was really cool and I stared at it agape for a long time.
I was operating on a mere hour-and-a-half of sleep, having closed up ConOps at 4 a.m. and was back on duty early in the morning. Up to that point, I was starting to get a little bitter from working 20+ hours for each of the past couple days while other staffers were off having fun and mingling. It doesn't sound like much, but it's the little things that make your day.

| All right, while news of Bridgegate among other things is apparently what's lighting up the eastcoast, here in Southern California our regional news (aside from the high amount of celebrity and pop culture stories) is surrounding the trial for the cops involved in the Kelly Thomas case.
THE STORY: Kelly Thomas was a schizophrenic homeless man in Orange County, who was beaten nearly to death by two police officers in Fullerton. He was wandering around a parking lot, the manager at the SlideBar (my boyfriend's band has played there in the past) called the police to falsely report that he was messing with people's cars. It should also be noted the SlideBar is owned by a guitar player from the band, Lit. When the cops showed up they proceeded to beat and tase Thomas repeatedly. It was to the point that one officer was reportedly sitting on Thomas' chest while punching him in the face with a live taser in hand. Anyway, the one officer suffered a minor injury. The EMTs were told to treat him first, while Kelly bled out on the ground. The two officers were on trial recently and were found NOT GUILTY of criminal charges. As can be expected, people are protesting. Thus far it hasn't gotten to the level of rioting that followed the Rodney King police trial or even the more recent George Zimmerman trial debacle. . . . I know our judicial system is such that it prefers setting guilty men free than possibly sending an innocent to jail, but at this point people are losing faith. We're watching murderers walk free here. Casey Anthony. George Zimmerman. Now Manny Ramos and Jay Cicinelli. The trial for Joseph Wolfe is still pending. P.S. I am NOT anti-cops. I've never called them "pigs" EVER. I hate how quickly people judge police officers. While I have encountered some shitty cops who did seem to be on a power trip, it's highly unfair to classify and hastily generalize all members of the occupation, especially when I've met many, many more upstanding officers than the jerks (who very well could have just been having a bad day). | I was going to post that we've finally started to get colder days, but then I'd step outside and get sunburned. In other words, my house has somehow managed to stay frigid inside (we have no A/C, and usually our house is poorly insulated).
Anyway, we took a walk on the beach during the extreme low tide the other day due to the micro-moon we had. It's been the one benefit to this overly hot summer-like winter. |

I managed to weather ALA without contracting the dreaded, ever-present con crud, but I think the latest pirate metal show in West L.A. may have done me in. Throat was all scratchy and it hurt when I sneezed. Seems to be better now, but I still feel on the verge of a cold. |
