The more time that passes, the more I wish I could be back in the '90s. Argh, I'm becoming exactly like those old people who wish it was the '80s, '70s, and so on again.
I've also been watching an ungodly amount "Living Single" all the time now. That was another of my favorite shows back in the day, that now seems to have found cable channels to regularly air it now (Logo, TV One, Oxygen, etc). Originally posted by Xeoman Indeed they were. I remember all the paleontology stuff EVERYWHERE when "Jurassic Park" came out and I loved it all. It also felt like there were far more bookstores back then. The malls in this area and now totally devoid of them, and my favorite independent shops closed up before the change of millennium. (Last edited by Rogue on 07-01-14 01:27 PM) |

Indeed. I have no idea who really gets credit with discovering that that parlor trick works, but I do remember seeing videos of kids fumbling with putting the Mentos into the bottles in a parking lot at night (or somewhere else) long before the "official" video came out.
Remember when your best friends were based solely on how you liked something stupid like "Saved By the Bell" or Barbies? |

I was about to say this one was difficult until I got a flash of this memory and then I knew there really was only one answer:
Sailing the Mediterranean. While I still would like to travel to other countries, if it was a choice between say finally visiting Japan or some other exotic locale I haven't been yet and floating around off the coast of Greece, I'd jump on the latter. I'm dying to venture into the Adriatic and visit Venice and, most particularly, Croatia. Brandon's dad's side of the family are Croats, the pictures I've seen of it are GORGEOUS, it gets fewer tourists than Greece and Italy, and it's the shooting location "Game of Thrones" (King's Landing, Pentos, etc). I'd also like to actually spend time in Italy, at that, since I really only sailed to it and then was taken to the airport to fly home, by way of Germany. What allergy are you thankful you don't have? (Last edited by Rogue on 07-02-14 03:07 AM) |

Autumn is my favorite, mostly for the fact that the weather usually turns cooler, but it's also the time of a few of my favorite holidays (Dia de los Muertos, Halloween, and Thanksgiving) and it's apple picking season, which means getting cider, apple cider donuts, and caramel-covered apple dumplings while under the trees with flame-colored leaves.
My very-close-second favorite would be spring for the similarly mild weather, renaissance faire season for the American Southwest, and that the farmers market is full of robust fruits that you have to wait the rest of the year for. What are five things that make you happy? |

Originally posted by Katana Apology long since accepted. I'm sorry I got so mad over a detail in a TV show. But yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of Dany. She comes off to me like she's George R. R. Martin's Mary Sue girlfriend. I dearly want to see her fail without Jorah. And this isn't misogyny talking. Arya is my darling, and I will start a riot if she dies. |

Pesto.
The one true sauce. Creamy pesto is also happily accepted. What's your favorite cryptid? (Last edited by Rogue on 07-07-14 12:19 PM) |

Been fruit grilling crazy.
Pictured are some of the peaches and nectarines I've been grilling. I just did a green apple, putting the usual brown sugar and mint along with cinnamon this time, and while it was good, it wasn't as orgasmic as the stone fruits. I love peach/nectarine season. |

Well... now I can say I've been flirted with by a man with no nose.
Seriously... I should be reading my book group book, but I don't wanna. Also need to work on my Labyrinth Masquerade costume, but I need my mom's help with that. |

I've been eating this high fiber stuff from Trader Joe's and dumping a load of cinnamon on it. But only when we have the cash to get it.
While in Washington I came to love making a bowl of half regular Cheerios and half Honey Nut. Brought back happy memories of having Trader Joe's honey O's at my friend, Katie's, apartment and pouring the used cereal milk into my Mighty Leaf vanilla black tea. What movies could you swear you've seen at least 100 times each? |

It's essentially English afternoon tea with all the pomp and circumstance of scones with clotted cream and lemon curd, cucumber sandwiches, tiny cakes, and other little bites (often arranged on tiered plates) along with your pot of tea. It's really just people getting to pretend at being fancy, calling it "high," and at $35 a person.
The last one I went to, in Vegas, put gold leaf on the hazelnut desserts. I don't know why that's become such a thing now, but I keep seeing that in hoity-toity bakeries in L.A. Anyway, I just thought it would be a funny contrast, going to afternoon tea in the Mandarin Oriental, against the other things we did on the trip like go shooting, drinking, and to seedy strip clubs. When Brandon and I went to "high tea" while on the cruise, we were surrounded by older women who kept putting on airs about how they do high tea daily and then sniped at the serving men for not bringing out the cucumber sandwiches first or bringing them cupcakes. What's the most depressing love story you know? |

Thanks.
I'm stuck working Labyrinth Masquerade. I'm doing a friend a favor by throwing together a costume and then standing at the entrance to doing check-in/will call stuff both tonight and tomorrow night. The annoying thing was they also wanted me to recruit people from the convention operations department at the different cons I also work, but then they already said no regarding people I was thinking of asking. "Don't get ____. I don't want to say why, just don't ask him. Oh and no ******* either. He weirds people out." All this and they'd still e-mail every day, going, "Did you find anybody?" |

Hm, I'm actually not that into tacos. Shocking, I know. But if I were to make one with all my preferences it'd be with flavorful carnitas on a fresh made FLOUR tortilla with cilantro and onions. Cream sauce optional.
What's the most stressful week you've ever had? |

Any time I stepped outside the whole night I'd get inundated with the smell of gunpowder. Ahhhh, freedom. (Last edited by Rogue on 07-10-14 03:58 PM) |

I haven't really noticed a difference. Maybe if I had it as long as Marty and Becky's and then cutting it this short?
It's been easier to manage either way, especially last night when I had to do a quick updo around my elf ears. |

I was right with you this week on the cramps.
But now I'm starting to get all crazy sick from being around so many people this week. Fuck that shit, right there, especially with our friend from Australia coming in today from another trip around the world, heading back to Sydney on Monday. She was sick the last time she was here (only a couple months ago) and I don't want to get her sick when she's on her way home. Fuck my shoes. I've got these boots that have no padding or arch support that pass for old 1800s boots. I've worn them for steampunk cons, they went with my UNIT uniform at Gallifrey (and it was there that they truly were destroying my life), and a host of many other things like being my work shoes when I went for an internship. I wore them last night for Labyrinth Masquerade and my feet once again feel like I've broken the calcanei of my feet. FUUUUUCK. |

OK... I did a shoot on Monday where I was exposed to at least 100 people throughout the night and I got almost no sleep.
Then doing LOJ over the last couple days I've had AT LEAST 1,000 people around me, many of whom coughing, also into the middle of the night. My throat hurts. Yep, definitely getting sick. Fuuuuck. |

Peaches. Or nectarines. But most particularly if they all have a crunch. No mushy stone fruits for me.
If I could have a week in June where I could eat nothing but honey blazed nectarines I'd be so freaking happy. Ooooh, and grilling them. My god, next June can't come fast enough. I don't care if I'll be 30 when that comes around again. What's your favorite song from a movie? |

Good lord, I hope not. I have so many thank you notes to write that I'm lousy at sending. Well, I tend to send the ones that NEED to be sent ASAP right away, but otherwise I'm downright pathetic when it comes to mailing out the notes.
Have you ever had a book that you hated as you read it, but came to appreciate it years down the line? |

The attacker turned herself in after a week on the run. She's facing several charges, which if she's found guilty of all of them will give her 10 years in prison. |
