Chapter 7
The Rematch

One path flowed into many, as the van moved along the miles upon miles of rugged trail terrain. Kazuma didn’t pay much attention to the unstable bumpiness of the ride, and for most of the trip, he talked with his newfound ally, the Gardevoir. He spoke gently and calmly, so that she wouldn’t feel any negativity towards him.

“What happened back there? You wanna talk about it?” She looked away, sadly.

“Those men… They assaulted me off guard, and took away my child. I feel… as though I’ve failed in my duty to protect. Like I’ve failed as a mother.” She looked away, and tears welled up in her crimson eyes, as she wallowed in her sorrow.

He frowned, and put his hand on her shoulder, and with that, she looked back to him. He smiled, and looked her straight in the eye, and stated with devotion and dedication in his voice.

“I will get you your child back. If it takes me a million years, I will get him back. I promise.” His face was stern, and she looked back to him, feeling his determination, courage, and strength. Her ‘voice’ began to break as her emotions got the best of her. As the Gardevoir took in his pledge, she grasped his hand

“If that is the case… Then I will devote myself to protecting you, Kazuma Aramaki. I will protect you, as if you were of my own flesh and blood, and I will not lose you… like I lost my son.” As her words came to a close, she began to sob, and Kazuma just pulled her head close him, and stroked her smooth, celadon hair, as he looked out the window in the back of the van.

It was getting late, and longer shadows were being cast upon the ground. By now, the Gardevoir was asleep, due to the combination of mental and physical exhaustion, and Kazuma was getting irked by the lack of progress, given the amount of time the troupe has been traveling. Finally, out of exasperation, he opened up the back panel in the van. “…We’re lost. Aren’t we.”

Shinji just looked around the road, puzzled. “I don’t know; I think we’re going in circles,” he said with a large yawn.

Kazuma sighed. “Why did I let you drive? Keep going down this road, alright?” Shinji nodded, and kept driving. After a while, there was another small clearing, which was a dead end. Kazuma was watching the road through the opening in the back, and when he saw this, he just shook his head.

“Alright. Shinji, pull over. It’s getting late.” His friend sighed, and pulled the vehicle over to the side of the woods, and turned it around so it would face the path again. He killed the engine, and leaned back, breathed a deep sigh, and closed his eyes.

Kazuma looked over the surroundings through the windshield. “Let’s set up camp for a while, alright?”

Shinji nodded in agreement. “Sounds like a plan.”

Kazuma opened up the back of the van, and nudged his Gardevoir awake. “Come on; we’re going to take a break, alright?” She woke up, rubbing her eyes, and clambered out of the van, and looked around.

To the back of the van were the woods, and to its front was a steep, grassy hill, flanked by trees. It led to a small cliff, about twenty feet up, with a river below it. The orange glow of the sunset shone over the cliff, which overlooked more forest. Out past that, tall buildings of a city could be seen.

Shinji exited the van, and pulled out the backpacks, and walked down to the hill and set the bags down. Kazuma followed suit, with the Gardevoir not far behind. They two men looked at each other, nodded, then sat down on the cool grass. Shinji stretched out and relaxed, while Kazuma sat with his knees up to his chest, looking at the sun. He pondered the battle that he brought about himself, and perhaps, his enemy known as rationality has started to rear its ugly head, as thoughts of the aftermath plagued his mind.

With a heavy sigh, he looked over to Shinji. “Do you think that what we’re doing is right? Killing those bastards, just to prove a point?”

His friend barely stirred. He just looked up to the clouds apathetically. “There ya go, Kazuma. Thinking too much again. If we don’t step up to them, who will? Maybe we’ll inadvertently lead by example, and more people will fight against them. Who knows?”

Kazuma wasn’t convinced. “How are we any different than them, now?” Shinji got up to an upright position, and stared Kazuma down. “We have souls. They don’t. They’ll kill anything that gets in their way, and for what? For following their coward boss’ orders? Bullshit. If you won’t kill them, I will. But either way; this little war of ours is going to end.” All the while, the Gardevoir sat next to Kazuma, watching his every move, sensing his emotions, and remained silent and still. Shinji changed expressions, and grinned at Kazuma.

“So! You wanna rematch? You whooped me up pretty good before. But I won’t let that happen again, pal.”

The silver haired man smirked as he got up, and picked the Pokeball off his belt. “Okay, okay. Do I hafta whoop your ass again?”

With a laugh, Shinji retorted, “Don’t get cocky, man!” With that, he pulled out his Great Ball, and tossed it upon the ground, releasing his Sneasel, who appeared, jumping about fervently, checking its surroundings for any of the same danger it had been in the previous time he was let out.

“Calm down, guy. Nothing’s wrong. We’re just having a friendly battle, alright?” he reassured his pet, as he bent down to his backpack and pulled out a bag of chips. Kazuma laughed a bit at the Sneasel’s antics, then tossed his Pokeball upon the earth, revealing his small, greed and red Treecko.

“Let’s go! Don’t cut it any slack, Sneasel!” The black, bipedal creature readied itself, and made a headlong dash for the Treecko, with its claws extended, ready to slice it to ribbons. However, as the Sneasel got close to it, the small lizard vanished with a Quick Attack, and showed up behind its foe. Sensing the wind caused by the move, the Sneasel whirled around, and growled in anger. The Treecko decided upon a direct attack, and started scurrying towards it. Its enemy seemed to scoff at the lizard’s attempt to attack directly, and quickly leapt forward, and slashed at it. Squawking in pain, the Treecko leapt back, avoiding the Sneasel’s vertical follow-through slash, as its face bled from the deep laceration inflicted from the previous attack. It seemed to grow angry, and hissed at its challenger, and Quick Attacked, yet again, this time, connecting its foot with the Sneasel’s back, dealing damage, and kicking off of it, as it landed at the top of the grassy hill. It now had the high ground. Kazuma chuckled as he saw his Treecko take the advantage. The Sneasel had other plans formulating, as it rubbed its back with the back of its claws. It spun around, and sprang up high, jumping from the bottom of the hill to the top.

“Treecko! Now! Absorb!” The creature licked its right eyeball, and jumped form its vantage point, and landed on the Sneasel’s head as it ascended, and firmly sung its small lizard teeth into the left arm of the Sneasel with the little contact time it had with its opponent. The Sneasel was in shock, as it landed firmly on the ground, and it shook its arm furiously, trying to get the lizard off. The Treecko hung fast, though, as it sucked the Sneasel’s energy out of its body through the wound on the arm. Slowly, the gash on its face could be seen closing up. This all stopped, though, when the Sneasel attacked its assailant with its free arm, and stabbed it through the back right leg. It cried out in anguish as it let go, and tried to scuttle about, but to no avail. It could only limp away slowly, while the Sneasel closed in on it, and prepared to finish it off.

“Sneasel! That’s enough!” Shinji beamed, as he shot a smug look over to the distraught Kazuma. The Gardevoir’s strength had returned somewhat, and she had been standing since the time the Sneasel was released, hovering behind her trainer, frightened. It was natural for psychic types to always be fearful of the Dark types, since their powers are virtually useless on them.

“Alright, Treecko; back off. Let it live,” Kazuma sardonically instructed his injured Pokemon, as he jogged over to it, and recalled it back into its ball. The Sneasel was leaping about triumphantly, emulating the over-reacting Shinji, whose aim was just to rub his victory in Kazuma’s face.
“What now, Kazuma? Ooh, victory tastes good!” he exclaimed as he cracked open a beer, kept in a tiny, refrigerated sack in his backpack.

His friend sneered back at him sarcastically. “You better get your Sneasel back before he starts imitating your victory habits.”

With a facetious pity face, he pursed his lips and looked back at Kazuma. “Aww, you got it bad, huh? Here; catch.” As he recalled his Sneasel, he tossed a beer to Kazuma, who caught it in one hand.

“Dude, you know I don’t drink this stuff,” Kazuma protested, looking at his friend awkwardly.

“Oh, lighten up, bro.” Shinji just punched his arm, jokingly as he walked up to him. This unintentionally irritated the Gardevoir a bit, and her red eyes flared. In a split second, his drink was spurting in his face, as though it was shaken. Kazuma couldn’t help but laugh, as there was only one possible explanation for that.

He looked at his Gardevoir, chuckling. “Calm down; we’re just fooling around.” She sunk back a little bit, feeling as though she did something wrong.

“Oh, what the hell!? Kazuma, tell your friend to cut it out!” The drenched Shinji was comical to see, but he still fumed.

“Oh, God. Knock it off and calm down. You can change in the van. Come on. It’s getting dark,” Kazuma said flatly, as he gathered up the bags. Shinji just grumbled to himself, as he followed the Gardevoir, who tailed Kazuma back to the van. He sat in on the bumper of the van, and popped open his beer.

Shinji followed suit, and took off his beer-soaked hoodie. “Once they find out that their buddies aren’t coming back, they’ll likely start a search. We’d better leave as early as we can.”

The Gardevoir sat down on the grass by Kazuma’s feet, and he nodded to Shinji in agreement, as he looked up to the sky and sipped his drink. “Yeah; it’s only a matter of time.”

Team Rocket
The Men Behind the Madness

Over forty years ago, Team Rocket’s influence was at its peak in the Kanto and Johto regions, with their stranglehold choking every bit of freedom out of the people of these lands. While the terrorists did the dirty work, underground scientists did the labor that became the backbone of the organization. What follows are various Journal Entries taken from the main Rocket Headquarters in Viridian City after a raid by an unknown party sacked the facility in April of 2039. Please note that these entries are top secret, and are by no means, to be released outside of the Indigo League’s personal files.

The writings of Doctors Richard Xibar and Edward Paramount on “Project Mewtwo” follow.

I have been placed in charge of a new assignment, issued to me by the Second in Command, Kenshiro Hayazami. He claims it was issued by Giovanni himself. Apparently, I must work with my team to clone a certain Pokemon that was tagged and released several weeks ago. There must be something very important about it, otherwise they would not have asked me to spend time on this. Several DNA samples are being sent to the lab tomorrow for inspection and analysis, and, hopefully, the procedure should begin tomorrow, if all goes well.

Harley (1) has been sick lately. Apparently, he must have caught it while interacting with the other lab Pokemon. His fever broke a little while ago, after I prepared a small vaccination for him. He should be fine by tomorrow. Until then, I’ll keep a watch over him, and make sure he eats his dinner.

1: In reference to Xibar’s pet Marowak.

The samples were sent to the lab, as promised, but upon analysis, it was determined that this Pokemon was not catalogued in the database, and deemed a new species. Nevertheless, we have begun a genetic breakdown of the DNA in question, and made quite a surprising discovery. It appears as though this Pokemon contains the genetic makeup of every Pokemon discovered to date. It has a mind-boggling amount of chromosomes in its makeup; over four hundred to be exact, and it shares at least one of them with each Pokemon in the data banks. Our researchers are now double checking the genetics of the other Pokemon, and will attempt to confirm out beliefs.

During my lunch break, I took Harley down to the Geosphere in the fourth sub-level for some exercise. He loves it there, and was quite active, now that his sickness is gone. Chasing the birds and running about are his favorite activities, and I’m glad he’s back to his old self again.

Name: Richard Xibar
Date: March 20, 1994
Time: 10:44 PM

Astounding! After cross-checking over eighty different species of Pokemon, it turns out that each of them shares one chromosome on the same genetic level as our new creature. We have dubbed our unseen specimen, “Mew”, as it stands for “Microgenetic Elemental World”, and called the Project, “Project Mewtwo”, in our hopes of cloning this so-called mother of the Pokemon. Stasis chambers have been prepared, and filled with a saline solution which will hold the embryos of the host Mew DNA. We will be taking a day old embryo of a Machop (since all Pokemon embryos are identical until the second trimester) and infusing it with the genetic information of Mew, in the hopes that our first project goes well.

Harley was neglected today, and for that I was sorry. He still seemed upset at me, but the feeling subsided after coddling and pampering before I began writing. I fed him double today, as a form of apology, and he seems quite happy; he’s looking over my shoulder now, as a matter of fact. And on that note…

More later.

Seriously. It takes ZERO brainpower, the animations are dull and stupid, and... and... AGH! Everything about those games SUCKS. MKI to MKIII. Shit. Cartridged shit. Computer's too hard, button combos are pointless, and Fatalities are the only thing that make this game even slightly enjoyable. I hate this shit. I just needed to get that out now.

Edited out because I don't feel like overracting anymore.

I don't care; the graphics don't bother me. The control and gameplay aspects do. Blearghle!

That's what it is: My opinion. Deal with it.

Kazuma just rolled his eyes. "Alright, whatever, Hairpiece. Hand over the badge."
Atsuko just glared at Kazuma. "I... I'M NOT BALD!" He shook with rage, and all of a sudden, his oupee floated to the ground, and he gaped at his embaressment. "F-f-fine! Take your lousy badge! I hope Team Rocket screws you over real good, too! You
