The majority of this post will be quotes from someone who's being sane.

If this bill gets passed, they're going to have a hard time arresting all the people for things enshrined in the Constitution.

That is, if they use it the way it is claimed there.

However, I've discovered many absolutely frightening bills already have been passed, with equal or even superior misuse abilities to this one.

Guess why they haven't been abused?

The media, the American people in general create a tremendous outcry at anything considered to be against the spirit of the nation. This is why stuff like Enron came toppling down. How slavery and subsequent Jim Crow laws eventually died.

I believe this to be alarmist. Pass or no pass, it won't ultimately magically turn us into a fascist country. Why? The people don't want that. In fact, they've shown utter discontent with how things are now. If they began cracking down as described here, government would break down entirely.

I propose that the bill is merely some red tape to allow them to better catch terrorists. It is powerful... and thus easily abusable... but somehow I doubt the Supreme Court would allow it to be used for these wide-ranging abuses people like to claim it can have.

Instead, I believe anti-American or anti-Bush people are using it as an excuse to attack the government. I understand why, but I think it's the wrong tact. (Well, sure. I'm all for attacking the bill itself. But announcing the death of America due to one bill is, frankly, absurd. Unless that bill, of course, said 'The Constitution is Null and Void' in shiny letters.)

Ultimately, the country fluctuates between low and high with rights and laws like this. Given a new era, this legislation will die of disuse. And given this era, their ability to use it will probably be crippled by media and other attacks on it, plus the inevitable calls for it to be dismantled (See: 'Patriot' Act.)

Here we go.

A non-hysterical reaction.

Similar claims are made in a lengthy piece at The Indypendent, and a follow-up piece on blogosphere reaction shows just how hyped-up the rhetoric here has become ("Stop S. 1959 or lose Internet free speech," one poster wrote). Such rhetoric seems more than a bit over the top, since the commission doesn't have the power to make laws or to rewrite the Constitution. Still, if the issue concerns you, now would be an excellent time to contact your senator.

This bill is dumb, but why haven't our rights already been destroyed? I have yet to be heckled by any government agents despite the fact my views conflict with this administration's. (Primarily, I preferred the old Clinton days, or, heck, most of the previous presidents.)

There will always be some example of rights abuse, and I agree that things get a bit touchy here.

But screaming bloody murder and announcing the end of America won't make it go away. :p

Now, how about we think before we freak out, hmm?

Name someone who always makes you smile?
- I'll get back to you.

What were you doing at 8:00 this morning?
- Sleeping, as always.

What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
- Playing RO.

What were you doing 3 hours ago?
- See previous.

What did you do last night?
- Working on some Morrowind stuff.

Explain why you last threw up?
- Medicine that didn't get along with coffee, if I remember right. It's been years, though.

What color is your hairbrush?
- ... brush? I use a black comb sometimes, but no brush.

What was the weather like today?
- Cold, grey, and rainy.

Where did your last hug take place?
- Yesterday, when my cousin was over.

What are you excited for?
- N/A

Closest thing to you thats green?
- A stick of deodorant. Well, ok, it's teal, but close enough.

Last person you spoke to?
- Outside of the house? Potential employers.

Are you very random?
- Not in the conventional usage of the word, no. Nor in its more accurate definition, actually...

Do you want to get your hair cut?
- Just did about a month or two ago.

Are you over the age of 25?
- No.

Do you talk a lot?
- When I talk, yes.

Do you watch The O.C.?
- No.

Does your screen name have an "x" in it?
- Well, this one does, but it's the only one of many.

Do you know anyone named Kelsey?
- No.

Do you make up your own words?
- No, but I do borrow words other people make up. Omniloathe is a favorite.

Are you ticklish?
- Test it and I punch you. Only slightly most of the time, but sometimes it flares up and ends up so sensitive my own damn shirt bothers me.

Are you a jealous person?
- No.

Do you chew on your straws?
- Sometimes, but I don't use straws often anyway.

Do you have curly hair?
- When it gets longer, but I hate letting it get long.

What is the next concert you're going to?
- None planned...

Where did you go today?
- To the dining room table. Cold, rainy, and sunday - can't really do any followup phonecalls to managers when they're all off work, now can I?

What is something you say a lot?
- "Wait, what." I have a someone asinine family, with one person who I swear is mildly retarded (not insulting, I'm dead serious here), his almost certainly mildly retarded girlfriend/wife, another two that are utter morons... so, when my somewhat gossipy grandmother starts talking about the family, there are a lot of "wait what" moments.

What are you doing tonight?
- Wasting my time on these damn surveys.

Who was the last person to say they loved you?
- My 10 (?) year old cousin, Veronica. She was visiting yesterday.

What should you be doing right now?
- Finishing that Pizza Hut application, as well as a few others...

Do you have a nickname?
- Not really.

Are you a heavy sleeper?
- Not quite. I wake up easily, but I fall right back asleep..

What are you listening to?
- The beeping of Trillian. No music playing.

What's the best movie you've seen in the past two weeks?
- ... movie?

Is there anyone you like right now?
- No. I hate everyone. Seriously, wtf kind of question is this? Drop the euphemisms already, people - say what you mean!

When was the last time you did the dishes?
- It's been at least four years. The reason for this is that we've had a dishwasher for a long time.

Did you cry today?
- No.

Do you like Chinese food?
- Who doesn't? No, really, who? I need to hunt them down.

How big is your bed?
- Well, it's not long enough, I can say that much...

Laptop or desktop computer?
- Desktop. I like having a real mouse.

Does anyone like you?
- No. Everyone hates me. *cuts wrists* Once more, speak straight. To seriously answer, I don't think so...

Sleep with or without clothes on?
- Without.

Who sleeps with you every night?
- No one. The bed isn't really big enough for one person, nevermind two!

Do long distance relationships work?
- Beats me. Never cared to try.

How many times have you been pulled over by the police?
- I walk everywhere.

Pancakes or french toast?
Bagels.

Do you like coffee?
- Coffee? WHERE? *searches for it* Gimme coffee!

Number of pillows?
- 2-3, depending on their thickness.

What are you wearing right now?
- ... isn't that one of the stereotypical creepy questions?

What/who do you miss?
- The friends I lost from moving every other year.

Can you play pool?
- Poorly.

Do you like maps?
- No. The damn things are a pain in the ass to fold.

Tell me a random fact
- I'd have to get Shaddow for this one.

Ever do a keg stand?
- A what now?

Craziest place you've slept?
- Outside when camping? My life's pretty normal.

Last time you laughed at something stupid?
- Last time I talked to Shaddow, probably.

What time did you wake up this morning?
- 9:30 AM. That's exceptionally early for me.

Wake up next to anyone this morning?
- No.

Best thing about winter?
- Snow! Rain! Grey skies! No, that isn't sarcasm or irony. I like that weather.

Worst thing about winter?
- Idiots who don't know how the fuck to drive in wet weather.

Name a couple of favorite colors
- Black, silver, blue.

What are you doing this weekend?
- N/A, weekend's over in four hours, and I don't plan in advance...

What's in your wallet?
- Too much change, too many papers, some money, a debit card, a gamestop discount card, my photo ID, my social security card.

What's under your bed?
- Carpet. A few boxes.

What's on that way top shelf or in the very far back of your closet?
- Beats me. It's not just my closet.

What's in your underwear drawer?
- Underwear. That is, after all, how it became known as my underwear drawer. Also socks.

What's in the trunk of your car?
- I have no car.

What's in your desk or locker?
- No locker. My desk has no drawers.

Do you have a super-secret hiding place and what's in it?
- Nope.

Do you feel guilty about something right now, if yes what?

Have you done something recently you hope no one finds out about?
- Nothing.

What is your last thought before you fall asleep?
- It's different every night.

How long have those leftovers been in the fridge?
- Dunno. My grandmother deals with that stuff usually... in the past, I've seen things stay there for two weeks, but not longer.

If I confiscated your computer and took a look around....what would I find?
- I'm not sure you'd find anything, if you went around looking for specific things. This thing's so disorganized I don't think I need a password to keep people out... Pictures, roms, music, notepad files that make no sense to anyone but me...

Do you sleep with anything?
- Pillows are a requirement.

What is your midnight snack weakness?
- A cup of ramen. That's more of a second lunch, but...

Have you ever vandalized anything?
- No.

Ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
- shut up.

What do you wait until no one is looking to do?
- No one's ever looking... I'm almost always in my room, alone, with the door shut.

Have you told the truth in this survey?
- If I hadn't, would I tell you that now?

In my time on private servers for other games (not just RO), I've found that they tend to be even more filled with retards than the official servers. So, I play on official servers, Aggramar specifically.

My characters at the time of this writing are Nilanos (L23 Night Elf Rogue), Silandros (L16 Human Warrior), Talirn (L17 Human Warlock), Lucina (L6 Human Mage), Eirian (L7 Human Paladin), Arilene (L11 Night Elf Hunter), Kasilla (L3 Draenei Shaman), and Volenna (L1 Human Priest). I don't have a main, I level whichever I feel like. I don't often feel like using a priest, if you can't tell.

Am I the only one who dislikes this?

Who very strongly dislikes this?

I was afraid of that.

I have this weird thing about game universes: I like when they make sense and remain internally consistent. I could tolerate Link in SC2, as he was similar enough to not be too much of a problem, but most of these random crossovers in otherwise-consistent series just annoy me. You want to make a crazy crossover game? Fine, that doesn't bug me (I quite enjoy some of 'em). Just don't screw with the non-crossover series, that's all I ask.

But because it's got Star Wars, it'll sell, which is exactly what they were after.

My defense is really all that's needed to refute the majority of his post. For further defense, my post retains its full intended meaning if you remove the final line.

But just to humor you, I'll go into further detail. We've got quite a history of arguing, after all, and it'd be such a shame to throw that away.

1. Star Wars does not fit in the Soul Calibur universe at all. Undisputable, as far as I'm concerned. Ok, lightsabers are basically fancy swords, but that brings me to point number 2.

2. It is impossible to give Yoda and Darth Vader appropriate power levels relative to the rest of the cast without drastically weakening them. Either you piss the Star Wars crowd off, or you piss the Soul Calibur crowd off. Or, if you really fuck up, you piss them both off. Give them any Force abilities and you get the same complaints about them that you had about Link in Soul Calibur 2. And has everyone forgotten that lightsabers cut through damn near everything?

In short, add them, subtract a consistent game world.

Edit: Oh, while I'm here, I addressed a related topic with Shaddow in AIM. He did not ask me to post this.

[17:41] Shaddow: I like Xeo.
[17:41] Shaddow: I mean, the idea is dumb to begin with
[17:41] Shaddow: but I FULLY agree
[17:42] Shaddow: that not being allowed to Yoda vs Darth Vader is Lame
[17:42] Cheveyo: oh, yeah
[17:42] Cheveyo: I agree with that too
[17:42] Cheveyo: but I think console-exclusive characters are a retarded concept to begin with
[17:43] Cheveyo: SC2 would've been better off as a game without any of the console exclusives
[17:43] Shaddow: I agree
[17:43] Cheveyo: one of the largest problems with console exclusive characters
[17:43] Cheveyo: [17:42] Shaddow: that not being allowed to Yoda vs Darth Vader is Lame
[17:43] Cheveyo: that.
[17:44] Cheveyo: so if two people happened to have Link and Spawn as their two best characters
[17:44] Cheveyo: they wouldn't be able to fight each other at their best
[17:44] Cheveyo: random example, you get the idea

Riiiight, they diddnt do it in other games.

And people have complained about it, with infuriating frequency.

On the balance topic, look at Soul Calibur 3. Really, even without guest characters they seem to have difficulty balancing things. If they do what Cyro said, as I fully expect them to, Vader'll probably end up being one of the weakest characters, with Yoda likely being overpowered.

But whatever, we can leave that alone and address the other thing I mentioned - the console exclusives. Can we at least all agree that having characters restricted by console sucks?
