She also was telling me about how he son has had a Firefly larp campaign going since the show started in 2002. |

Wanna know what REALLY gets under my skin?
|
I'm really getting tired of the things that I loan out to my friends feeling like pulling my own teeth when I ask for my things back. It's not out of spite, it's just if you're done with it, give it back! Don't loan it to other people! Don't damage it and give it back pretending there's nothing wrong with it! Don't suddenly think it belongs to you! And especially don't sell it! I don't know what it is about people and their consciences where borrowing something from someone suddenly means it belongs to you and you can shit on it if you like. I'm EXTREMELY particular of my possesions when I loan them out. My books are immaculate and look like they're never been opened. One of my best friend's in high school, Emily, borrowed books from me all the time. Often enough when I asked for them back, she either forgot she even borrowed the book and didn't know where it was or believed with every fiber of her soul that it was hers and I was lying. A year ago, I found one of my books (which she took from me while I was reading it, a while before) in her car. It was ripped up, wrinkled, and looked like it had aged 20 years, and I pointed out that it was mine. She got indignant, thinking I was claiming her property and mentioned that I was probably mistaken and she was planning on loaning it to her boyfriend. Gah! This made me somewhat nervous, because just before that she insisted on borrowing my Preacher graphic novels, so she could show them to her boyfriend. It's been over a year now and they've since broken up. I've recently been trying to ask for the books back in random IMs, since we don't talk much or see each other in person any more. It's not as though I'm IMing going, "WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY COMICS?!" but more like we'll talk for a time about all sorts of things and then I'd gently bring up the books and how I'd like them back. Half the time, her end suddenly goes inactive or she signs off without notice. A couple days ago, she IM'd me to say that she just loaned half of them to her friend, Ray. And this was after I was already approaching her for them back. WHAT THE HELL?! I want those books back. At store value they're almost $20 each and there are 9 of them, sure I got them for cheaper from other places, but that's beside the point. I'm also worrying that these things are going to come back looking like shit now. This isn't even one of the worst cases I've ever been through. SERIOUSLY, is it that difficult to just give something back? Anyone got any horror stories? (Last edited by Rogue on 06-29-06 10:04 PM)

You would expect so. I can't count how many of things have come back broken or destroyed.
|
I feel sick everytime I get one of my books back and there are creases in the binding, it's ripped, or the cover looks ragged. Interestingly enough, I loaned the same friend that I mentioned before, a copy of Animal Farm. It went to 5 different people before it got back to me. Obviously it looked defaced and so on, but each of the people who borrowed it, were apparently annoyed with the condition I had it in. They all complained to Emily that it was too perfect and you couldn't open the book all the way, so they took it upon themselves to break in the book. Um... it's NOT your book. You didn't have the right to do that. If you didn't like that it was too perfect, borrow it from the library where who knows how many people had their hands on it. (restricted) | (restricted) |

Right now, a newer episode of the Simpsons (when Flanders moves out because these girls who were staying with him ran a wedcam site).
|
In another room, I'm also watching "Casablanca" with my parents. Tonight, I'm going to a movie theater to see God knows what with my friends, since one works there and gets us in for free.

I really liked the first half of it. The second half sort of dragged, but it was still speckled with little moments that still make you go, "Yeah, you did it, Superman!"
|
This was really one big nostalgia movie, and it really tugged at the heartstrings at various points for me. I liked the Marlon Brando archive footage. I also really liked Kevin Spacey. He wasn't your typical idea of Lex Luther, but his new Se7en psychotic spin was pretty refreshing. Parker Posey made for a pretty good foil to him. Spoiler:
When Lois walked onto the boat with Jason and came across Lex while he was brushing his teeth, I turned and joked with Zoso's friend that at least she didn't walk in on him doing the first scene from American Beauty, in which Kevin Spacey's character is jerking off in the shower. A couple little goofs, I wondered about: How is it that everyone on the plane came off with their hair looking like, well, they were just involved in a plane crash, but Lois, who was fuckin' flying all around the plane, her hair looked immaculate when she stood up to look at Superman? It's funny that nobody notices when Clark Kent and Superman disappeared at the EXACT same time and came back at the EXACT same time. But for the skeptics that need to know why Lois is too stupid to notice Clark Kent is Superman, you're missing that Superman has that sleeked back hair with the single curl, while Clark Kent has his hair parted like a Kansass boy. ![]() And another thing... Lois left Superman... for CYCLOPS!!! Ahahahahahahaha!!! Now that's one flippin' weird Marvel/DC-crossover.

Yeah, I got mine in the mail a few weeks ago. I was thinking of going today to get the holder, but lack of a ride is proving to be the problem with that. I'll probably go early tomorrow, but I'm sure the line will still be HUGE.
|
Hopefully the line will fly unlike the usual pre-reg line. I think I'm going to spend tomorrow browsing and watching anime, and maybe photographing cosplayers. I'm VERY sure Man-Faye'll be there, even though they have a life ban on him. He still stands in front of the convention center, rallying followers for his Million Man-Faye March. *shrugs* Also spend tomorrow mapping out my plans for the next few days. This is my first time completely doing AX alone, despite the fact that I usually go around the con on my own without the other person(s), most of the time, anyway. I heard if you want anything signed by CLAMP, you have to attend one of the special panels and get a ticket or something from there. I'll see how it all goes.

First off, I'm not pissed (or even annoyed) with either of you two for having my things.
|
My Tao of Pooh already had quite a bit of wear on it from being in various bags, so I know there are creases on the cover and such. I'm not too worried about it. Zabuza, I also have your Incredibles. I'll be glad if I even get these books back, regardless of the condition. I'm just fucking annoyed with her response to my requests. The first time I brought up wanting them back, months ago in an IM after an hour of messaging back and forth, she said, "Oh yeah, sure, they're yours after all," and then disappeared without a "bye," a "ttyl," or anything. See, I always feel like a bitch when I ask for something back. Why is it so hard? It's especially harder if it's something that was a loaned to a friend who you've lost touch with or even had a falling out. My old best friend, Stephanie, who was my best friend from when age 5-16, has a lot of my things that I want back, but I can't bring myself to ask because it feels rude to call her out of the blue just to get things from her. And Belial, I know how you feel when you talked about returning that manga to your friend. I feel TERRIBLE if something happened to something I borrow. I always hate feeling like I've been inconsiderate. Thankfully there are understanding people out there. I just don't get why there isn't more common sense among people who borrow things. I suppose it is my fault for not learning that lesson each time I don't get something back, but I always feel like I have to be nice and loan some things out.

Yeah, there's a discussion in Video Hut. |
![]() It figures that Black Cat is there since Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's college sweetheart, was Black Cat and is in this upcoming movie. (restricted) |

That is SO fuckin' weird--I was just about to say something about that just now. I shit you not. I was looking over the forum and was like, "Wow, most of the threads have that sunglasses smiley..." and was going to jokingly start a thread about it.

Oh jeez, that's it. I remember Gwen dying, but for some reason confused her for Black Cat.
|
Now that I think of it, I didn't watch the '90s Spiderman series all that much and whenever I saw Felicia on there, I assumed it was Gwen Stacy, who now that I look it up was intentionally left out of the animated series because they didn't want to show her die. ![]() So all these years Black Cat's secret identity has been safe from yours truly.

Yeah, I went in to pre-reg on Friday night and it took literally 2 minutes to get my badge. The only reason it took "so long" was it takes a bit to walk all the way to the end of the hallway. |
![]() So far this year's been interesting, in a sense. They doubled the size of the exhibit hall, but it still feels just as cluster fucked with the people. I decided to volunteer since if you complete a certain number of hours, they reimburse the cost of your badge. I figure why not? They give you 2 meals a day and if you get your hours early enough, the rest of the con is free and you get your money back. But damn, it seems like there are A LOT of Tifas this year.

You can't tell by my comment that I've seen it. |
![]() I feel sad all of a sudden. Anyway, my favorite part would have to be him saving the plane with Lois in it. I think it's well-worth seeing. So there.

I really like both equally, but there's something to owning cats that just makes me prefer them. Like they can go out, wander around the neighborhood and still come home and rub up against you for love and affection from their humans. |
