| I don't remember when I quit saying the pledge, sometime around 7th grade I think. I notice that a lot of people stop saying it around that time, most likely because that is when we start the beginnings of thinking for ourselves... usually.
I wasn't forced to say the pledge, of course the one reason I gave when asked was "religious reasons". However, I was forced to stand for it. In 10th grade I had a teacher that gave us the option of not standing if we didn't want to. Two people stood for the pledge usually. I didn't want to stand for the pledge, because standing is a sign of respect and especially at that time I had no respect for this country because everything that the pledge, that the flag itself stands for, is a lie. We don't have the freedoms that we supposedly do. In 9th grade I had been horribly tormented for my religion and that left me very bitter, in 10th grade I watched my gay friends being harassed and denied their equal rights (that was the year the gay marriage proposition was on the California ballot and lost, thus banning gay marraige). Our first amendment right to freedom of religion is more like "freedom of religion, as long as it's Christian", and the "unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" that Jefferson spoke of in the Declaration of Independance seem to be selectively given. If America was the nation that the founders had envisioned, then I would stand and say the pledge happily, but it's not. Thusly I didn't stand. However, in 11th grade I had a different teacher for 3rd period (me and Zabuza went to the same high school, just so you know). He was a cool guy and all, but when I didn't stand for the pledge he got pissed off at me and sent me to the office. I was forced to sign a contract saying that I would stand for the pledge or I would be expelled. Apparently it is a law that you have to stand for it no matter what. My not standing was a form of civil disobediance, and that is a constitutional right that we supposedly have... but nope, not allowed to do it. I acutally lost the last bits of respect for the country then. |

| Intriguing way to introduce that element into the story, though a bit more imagery could be useful. Of course, it all depends on where you're slipping it in I guess. I think I spotted a few grammatical errors here and there, but nothing major... though I must admit I find the way you end the scene a bit odd.

Well, at least you know that you are not alone in the boat. I've been here for all of 18 days now... though as of today I am not so sure if I'm in the boat anymore or not. I've noticed that the quality of people around here, particularly in the LA-Orange County area has degraded to such a point that it makes you just want to nuke the area and start over. |

*Jade had been born with her wings, and she had perfect manuverability with them. The speed at which the three spikes came at her was nearly half the speed of her ice attack, so she easily managed to sweep to the side of each spike, doing the roll to face upwards as she dodged the last one and fired her own attack. She landed gracefully on the opposite side of the arena as Elyk coughed up the blood. This was fun to her, though she was getting annoyed at the fact that he seemed to be damaging himself more than she was damaging him. All thoughts of that left her mind when she heard his last comment though*

"How dare you speak to me like that, filth!" *Her temper spiked at that moment as she went into rage, and as she spoke a dark crackling blast errupted from her in a flash of blackness and engulfing the arena. The screams of the crowd could be heard as they are drained of half their life force, and even half of the pool of lifeforce seemed to vanish as the blast passed over it. Jade didn't know if the blast would even effect Elyk, all she knew was that she suddenly felt much more powerful. She locked her narrowed eyes, the purple glow from them blazing like fire, and though clenched teeth she spoke... and even though she was on the opposite side of the arena, her words could be clearly heard* "I am no one's plaything, don't forget that." Enervation Blast- On occasions when Jade loses control and gives over completely to her rage, a massive burst of negative energy explodes from her, destroying anything in it's path. In modern terms it resembles a mini-nuclear blast. Any opponent caught in the blast is affected by the Enervation spell, but five times as powerful. 100ft radius.

I used to date people just because I was terrified of being alone. I've outgrown that now, and I've finally become that whole person that I always pretended to be. Now, my reason for wanting a relationship is for that certain level intimacy and companionship that only a relationship of a romantic nature provides.

I've spent the past 18 days dealing with being single. I haven't been single in years for longer than a week, so this was actually hard. I chose not to dive into another relationship to save me from the loneliness this time though, and I am glad for it. I remembered that it's fine to be single, and that it can be fun. Even though my boyfriend and I are together again, I think that this whole drama of breaking up served a good purpose for me. I had to learn to be fine with being alone, and I had to learn that it was bad to date someone just to fill the void left by someone else. Most people have not learned this... or anything for that matter, and I think that is what makes it hard to find a decent person to date.

Pockets got WhiteRose a blowgun for her birthday, I think that was pretty cool actually. GuardianOni got steel "brass knuckles" that fit him perfectly. I'm still working on that picture of that bow, heh heh. I think that the Mexican wrestling masks were hilarious myself.
