Can't believe this isn't up yet.

Anywho, so I've been playing this recently (on venomouslobster's PC since mine can't run it) and I must say that it is gloriously awesome. The graphics haven't really improved all that much from the original game, but the sheer amount of stuff that they have brought in from real D&D is amazing. The items and characters look so much cooler... and there are actually Subraces now!

The storyline is interesting so far, I like how there are two paths you can choose depending on if you want to be more good or evil. I also like some of these side quests for your companions, they can be rather fun.

So yes, anyone else have any thoughts on the game?

I dunno why, But Icewind Dale in my opinion was alot better.

Then there are games like Untold legends, Baulders gate: Shadows of Amn, and several MUD/ DOS D&D survival games that take punches and are actually good.

Neverwinter Nights 2 had the D20 system correct?

I got NWN diamond edition, its the first time i have ever played a NWN game and I like it.. graphics arent so great but the story seems great (playing the first NWN first, it has the 2 exp sets with it also Shadows of undrentide and hordes of the underdark as well as the NWN kingmaker expansion) I havent got into the Exp sets yet but im sure they are awsome, in a week or two im planning on getting the NWN eye across my right arm across my bicep.. i cant wait..

D&D 3.5ed, specifically, though assorted changes had to be made due to the engine. The first game was 3rd edition.

I thought most D&D games used the D20 system...or that might have been way back in the day I suppose.

Oh well, no sence setting anything in stone for things I dont know.

It is D20, that just means it's the system of rolling used. 3.5 is the edition that they are on in the actual books (which determines rules, class abilities, ect).

But yes, it is D20.

There is actually very little tie in to the original game, except for mention of the Wailing Death and the city of Neverwinter itself. The Moonstone Mask is now a high class establishment... but still a whorehouse. And it does use a party system like in the Baulder's Gate games (though a smaller party). So far the NPCs are really interesting, though the Druid kinda sucks in combat since she does bugger all... the Bard however kicks major ass!

Yeah, the Wailing Death is the first major event in the original game... those weapons that you could have forged reappear in this game and in their description it mentions that whats-his-name (the guy that forged the weapons in NWN) forged this weapon to help the quest to end the Wailing Death.

The Druid as a class is awesome, but the NPC Druid sucks, I think it's in her behavior scripting or something. The NPC Bard is badass though, he casts Stoneskin on the entire party at the start of each fight, boosting your AC like crazy. All the classes run as close to the way they are written in the books as possible, and you can choose your deity based on almost the entire Forgotten Realms pantheon (which is a LOT of choices). Of course it only really matters if you are a divine caster, but it is fun regardless.

So in other words you will spend quite some time making a character and stuff? Which is awsome just makes the game more fun and better so you can get the full feel of "your" own epic adventure.
No way stone skin on the entire party?!? thats crazy.. I remeber on the first NWN the NPC mercenaries you can hire dont really help buff you or anything mostly just help you kill stuff.. which is ok but the purpose of a mercenary is primarily for support.. and im sry but if you remeber you can get the mercenary Daelan on the first NWN (the guy with the huge double sided axe) he pretty much tore through anything for the first 6 or 7 lvls of yer character. Untill you can start holding yer own.. which is kinda dumb.. especially if your a spellcaster by the time you prepare the spell and get ready to cast it, the enemy is already dead.. but neways.. still very very awsome

Heh heh, that is why I always hired the Cleric. I only switched to do the dialogues for the henchmen quests and finish them.
