From my academic blog on my digital portfolio
I feel like a failure. I got a 2 in Mass Comm and a 2.7 in Interpersonal/Family Comm. I did better in my environment class, and I never even paid attention in environment. I kind of expected a 2.7 in Interpersonal/Family Comm, but I wasn't expecting below a 3 in Mass Comm. The 3.3 in Astronomy was below what I expected too. I thought I'd be getting a 3.7 in the class. Academically, the semester sucked. I had too many papers/take home tests due on the same day near the end, which led to the decline in my grade. Quite frankly, I blame the college for shortening our terms and making professors have to cram stuff in to give us a proper class. I wouldn't be surprised if most student grades went down from the semester. Adding in the fact that my Comm classes were boring as heck, I'm not surprised with the low grades, but I don't know how I'm going to be able to return to college in the fall. I'm going to lose my scholarship and I won't be able to afford the ridiculous price of the college. If I didn't have to be on board, I'd save tons of money, but the stupid college won't let me go off board.

I just looked at financial aid and loans and stuff on the college website. It took forever to find the information I needed because the site's navigation sucks. Anyway, Stafford Loans wouldn't do crap for me. The limit (according to the site) is $5,500 for a junior, and my scholarship was $12,500. I sent an email to the financial aid office at Albion College and asked about getting the next highest scholarship instead, giving me $11,500 and only requires a 2.5 GPA, but I'm still waiting for their response. My parents are going to go ballistic.

UPDATE: I got an email back from financial.
Email from Doug Kellar: Associate Vice President for Enrollment at Albion College
You will likely remain in good standing for scholarship renewal based on your 2.95 GPA. You will be contacted if there is a problem with your eligibility. There are other options if it is determined that you are no longer eligibile for the award.
I am still concerned but now I have hope that I could still have my scholarship. I doubt it though, since I have been under the target of 3.0 in 2 semesters, but not 2 succesive semesters. However, my cumulative has been under 3.0 for 3 semesters running. I probably won't keep it, but we'll see.

If anyone finds anything that could help me out, please, PLEASE let me know. I don't like loans, but if I have to, I'll take them.

The college's website is Albion.edu and the Financial Aid stuff is here

Also, if anyone knows of any places hiring summer interns (management is prefered, but any position is handy) that will pay more than $2,500 for the summer, that would be handy info too.

On the note of jobs, my brother is looking for a job. He just graduated and has a Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering. If you find any jobs in that area, let me know. He really could use a job.

I'm really glad that Xeogaming is here to help people in need. You all rock.

Wow, that sucks. I would think that you would get the second highest one since your GPA exceeds the requirement, but I guess that time will tell on that one. When my finals are done with I will take a look around that site and see if I can find anything for you. Have you tried FastWeb.com? They can usually give you a list of scholarships you can apply for. I haven't seen one over $10,000 but there are a lot of them that generally require only an essay and if you can get a few of them it should make add up to a lot.

I know your pain on the papers due on the same day, that is happening to me right now. Both my finals are due this Thursday and I've barely started on one because of all the work I had to do on the other. But yeah... I do hope that everything works out for you.

If it's a need-based scholarship, you should look out for other ones that you are applicable for, since you'll probably have some luck with them. It's more dependent around your college for that, but look for local scholarships.

If it's a merit-based scholarship of that magnitude, I'd think they'd be rather stringent with the grades, as it's kind of expected. I'm assuming that if this is so, you're applying for the Webster Scholarship, no?

But for internships, again, look for stuff through your college. I hear it's a bit easier if it's for need-based situations rather than someone who can just take out a loan, but I don't really know the specifics. You could always just get a job over the summer. $2500 in three months shouldn't be impossible, but you'll have to find somewhere that pays around $10/hour, I think, and you'll be working for most if not all of the summer.
