Okay this is probably a stupid problem, but I just can't seem to bring myself to go to school anymore. Or do any of the work.
This is my fourth year of college but I don't even know what I wanna do as a career so I'm just taking some general studies. So now school just, to me, sounds pointless and a waste of time even though I know that a four year degree will really help me in life. I dunno I guess I just lost the drive or something or I'm just completely burnt out. I can't quit though. My whole family expects me to graduate and I don't wanna disappoint anyone. |

Then take a break.
Come back when you have ambition. |

Problem is I can't. I need to finish it now or I'd just end up skipping it all together and not come back. Also like I mentioned before everyone would be disappointed and they already see me as a naive little girl who can't take care of herself so it'd make me feel even worse. -___-
I guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it. |

I think you need sometime doing something you want to do. For me I don't know much what I'm gonna do.
But you should find something that's right for you. |

Thats the way I was about school, I diddnt feel that learning the stuff wont benefit me in the end, but its all about obtaining that piece of paper that proves you went through countless hours of studies and dedication to your studies.
Fennicy, no matter what, I will always be proud of you, but just for yourself and those around you, its only a few more months of school, and you will have completed your classes. Once you do that, alot of opportunities will be in front of you, alot more than just dropping out of school and working at a sad job like how I am about to. Trust me, if you finish school and lived here in Georgia, you will have a great life ahead of you. Talk to me on the phone if you want to discuss more. Also, it may sound weird, but take a little break and treat yourself to something. I think the problem is that you spend a little too much time worrying about school, and not enough "you" time, you know? Just take it easy and treat yourself to something. But dont stop while you are ahead. I remember my last months of Disney were Hellish, but I could not quit, and when I graduated, it was like the most awesome sensation I felt when I walked. Im sure you will feel the same thing when you graduate! |

Originally posted by Fennicy I sincerely hope that isn't the main driving point. If so, then school is pointless. Hell, doing anything is pointless. If YOU don't want to do it, then life will always suck. If your family and friends truly love you, then they'll share the same reactions as Nagis here. Anywho, I hear you on that though. This is my second year of college, but as far as credits go, I'm still a freshman, because I just switched majors starting this fall. School for me started in the begining of September. We're a good week or so through October, and I've done nothing. Grant it, part of it is my business professor is on a fusking loooong ass leave of absense, and my school hasn't bothered to get a substitute in. Mentally, I'm just burned out. I finished up my first year of college with a 4.0 GPA...now grant it, I go to a Community College, so it's no Harvard...but college still isn't easy regardless, so I take pride in my 4.0. However, my little 4.0 has gone completely out the window now I'm sure....though I assume it's not far enough below that I can't bring it up by the end of the semester. Point is, from your posts, I can safely assume that you and I are feeling the same about school. I just...don't want to do it anymore. Which is sad I suppose. I used to love school. So...as someone who is going through this along with you, I can honestly preach to ya to just keep your head up and do your best. S'what I've been doing. I've just recently pulled myself together actually. Went everyday this week so far. It sucks getting up and getting there, but once you get used to BEING there again, then it's not so bad. |

That reminds me.
I myself took a major course in Plumbing in 2004. It's a 1 year program and I completed it. But IT IS POINTLESS. I've been trying for looking for a job that matches my training but no dice. But over about 3 years. Mind is a terrible thing to waste. I recommend just work in a Permanent job than going back to College. You're only wasting your entire life. But right now, I have to find some "other" type of business I want to do. I do not consider going back to school or even college. (Last edited by insectduel on 10-11-07 04:44 PM) |

If you lack motivation to do your work (God knows I did when I was in college, ugh) set yourself a specific time to sit back, relax, and do something you enjoy. Then, after your reward, do your work. Putting myself into a good mood always made the homework more bearable. Also, find a friend (preferebly one who shares your classes, but they don't have to) and ask them to remind you to do your work. Have them ask you what's been assigned, when its due, the works. Eventually, you'll start doing it just to stop the nagging.
If all else fails, go with my patented 'bare minimum' policy. Always do exactly enough work to keep your grade at least a 2.0, and do more when you feel like it so you can do less when you don't. I didn't have the best GPA coming out of college, it was a 2.6 or something, but hey, that just means you have to sell yourself a little harder. If you had good grades before, one year can't drag you down too much, so just get enough done to pass and hang the rest! |

Yeah thanks for the advice everyone.
@Katana: Yeah it did get a tiny bit easier after I got used to going back again. @Soul_of_Steel: Well I'd get in big trouble if my grade average slipped below a 3.0. I can hear my mom saying, "what exactly am I paying for then?!" lol I've been thinking it over and I think that I might feel worse if I quit than if I kept going. |
