| Hopefully you knew where im going with this. But its not a console if it does not have a mascot. Remember advertisements in the early 90's? Nintendo had Mario. Sega had Sonic. Sony (EARLY stages) Had Crash Bandicoot, and so on.
Who is the mascot for the Xbox? And where the hell did Crash Bandicoot go? Who is the new mascot to the PS/2/3? I personally dont know. But if I were to shoot the gun at this, I would say Master Chief would be Xbox, and its a tie between Jak and Daxter, or Ratchet and Clank for the PS3...I dont know. | Wouldn't the main Character from Halo be a good mascot for the Xbox?
I agree with you though when it comes to Crash. They did make a new one called Crash of the Titans but it didn't really get much hype. | It's funny because regardless that Sega hasn't had a console in years, when people think of "Sega" I'm sure Sonic instantly comes to mind. Which isn't the case for Sony or Microsoft, I never think of any mascot for them. Sony definitely had Crash back on the PSX but since then they definitely haven't had a true mascot either I'd say.
I think it could be because gaming is more mainstream thesedays and it's generally not seen as a childish past time as much as it probably was back in the 90's and before. So it was probably easier for consoles to have mascots appealing to the younger gamers back then than it is now. If that makes sense. Basically, I don't think Sony and Microsoft will ever have a "true" mascot. Because of how the videogame scene is now and because they're just too late to have one set in stone. They both probably could have put more effort into this when the PS2 and Xbox were new. And Nintendo has like, three. Mario, Link, and Samus. (Last edited by XeoLVII on 01-07-08 05:38 PM) |

| Crash Bandicoot was awesome when it was on the PSX and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and CTR are probably one of my favorite games of all-time. Then Naughty Dog stopped making Crash and someone else did and now it stinks. (Last edited by Byte on 01-07-08 06:17 PM) |

| SONY- Solid Snake (even if it isn't exclusive anymore or whatever)
MICROSOFT- Master Chief NINTENDO- Mario Sony, while losing exclusivity lately, has what I like to call "after touch". The PS2 had so much exclusive greatness that it has carried on into the next generation. You can feel the souls of the characters that once carried the Playstation flag circling around every PS3. Sadly, they don't really have any way, it seems, to get them back. Microsoft has a slew of great games with unmemorable characters. Even if the characters are awesome, they're nondescript. Master Chief rarely speaks and he's probably the one with the most personality because momma told him the green of his suit brings out his eyes. Nintendo is brilliant for having a slew of incredible, memorable characters. If you like acid trips or kiddy games, you can go Mario. If you enjoy fantasy and swinging swords around, You can visit Link. If you want to shoot aliens with a super hi-tech awesome gun, you can be Samus. However, they cannot get anyone but their mascots to make games anymore. |
