So it's approaching that time of year where being outside is almost oppressively unbearable while the sun is out. Being inside too in some cases.
Seems like every weekend since mid-March I've been getting scorched terribly by the sun. I didn't used to burn when I was younger. In fact, being out in the sun for hours on end used to just turn my skin a slight brown. These days even at limited exposure, my skin feels cooked. Now, I usually carry SPF 75 sunscreen with me, though I can't seem to find it. It barely seems to do any good, despite going the day with greasy skin from the lotion mixing with sweat. Which dirt and dust, of course, stick to. Anyway, anyone else out there with fried skin? What's everyone doing to keep cool? Any upcoming plans that might make you look like a tomato if you don't keep to shade and wear the appropriate protection? Speaking of which, Elara, what are the group's faire plans this year? |

I used to burn really bad. Now I dont scorch to bad.
You should feel lucky for having the heat you have, I have to work in 120+ degree heat in a few weeks. It's already hitting about 100.. So yea.. |

In my area, for the past few days, it was in the low and mid-90s. I'm glad it hasn't made the leap to the 100s... yet, but it's acomin'.
At least it's not humid in combination with the heat. I HATE humidity. It's not something we're very accustomed to in southern California (it might weird some people out when I refer to where I live as "southern California," but it's mostly because the northern end often has COMPLETELY different weather and more often than not, the people and goings-on are different as well). Anyway, humidity. I absolutely despise it. After spending some time in states like Florida, Indiana, and Texas, where the air can get ridiculously thick, I've decided that humidity is definitely not for me. I can't stand going through days where the sun goes down and heat is still in the air and you feel like you're melting. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-17-08 03:01 PM) |

It's only reached the 80s around here.
Anyway, I can get sunburned pretty badly, and I've never tanned, but luckily, a bit of sunblock pretty much always does the trick, and I'm get no worries. Also, Rogue, have you tried spray-on sunscreen? If you get a fairly expensive type, it usually doesn't have much of the greasy-skin(mine has none) and has the side bonus of being easier to apply, and thus, less likely to allow sunburn. |

It's cloudy and cold here. We get sun sometimes, but it's not particularly hot. It's a very cold/cool town that I live in. But it's right at the coast facing the ocean, so yeah.
Besides, it's only April! When we get into summer-summer, it can get warmth, but with a cool breeze. Yay! |

Sunshine with no clouds and a cold breeze.
Now that's my kind of spring time. |

I got bad sunburns in Costa Rica, but it's maintaining a good temperature here in Northern California.
It's 72 degrees here now, and thats pretty average. It's sunny though. |

How you actually catch a Sunburn if it's spring weather.
I never get one unless it's Summer Weather. |

Originally posted by insectduel Where I live, it can be as hot and intense as a summer day almost any time in the year. It doesn't snow where I live, and though we do get some REALLY cold winter nights, we're still usually on the warm and sunny side. That is until you get the random 95-degree days in late winter and early spring. Our summers are getting harsher. I mean, they aren't as bad as Arizona, New Mexico, or even some Texas summers, but ours can be downright unbearable. (Last edited by Rogue on 04-17-08 10:31 PM) |

You can catch a sunburn during any sunny day, even if it's cold. That's why people in Britain are still getting slight tans even though it's fricking cold at the moment. Cold doesn't stop the UV rays!

SO..... it's already been about 100? this year, where I am. No clouds in sight. I got sunburned about a month ago at an autocross (a bunch of fancy cars running a road course).... it was about 85? then.... and it is only getting hotter! YAY PALM DESERT!! Anyway, my next sunburn will probably be at the Renaissance Faire on the 10th up in Irwindale. <3 I'm already starting to carry around sunblock, but seeing as how I'm only outside at night, except for driving the 4 minute drive to work, I can avoid the sun daily. It pays to be a night owl. ^-^

Originally posted by Drizzt Dourden Yeah we're going through that too. We were having some hot nights that you needed to leave the bedroom window open for just so you could breathe at night. Now you have to be sure to dress in layers. Sometimes many layers--shirt, sweater, jacket, etc. I guess it's being along the Pacific that does it. Good grief. |

So I'm sporting a rather severe bodice burn (my chest is redder than cooked lobster).
Kinda sucks that it didn't even out with my past burns from a few weeks ago. Now I have four-toned boobs: parts are dark red (burned tanned area), red (newly burned skin), brown (tanned parts that weren't burned), and white (hasn't been exposed to sunlight EVER). So yeah, it's hot these days and my next door neighbor's a busybody cunt about my fan I need to be able to breathe in my own room. Everyone else all right? |

It takes me hours to get even a mild burn. And I hold a tan very well.
My mother is not amused when I remind her of that; she came back from North Carolina one summer a shade of red I don't often see outside of certain types of fruit. The heat bugs me enough to make up for that, though. (Last edited by Thex on 06-16-08 04:01 AM) |

This is my weather right now. Hot. Humid. Annoying. Best three words I can describe Georgia right now, it is way to hot outside. Sucks I have to walk to work everyday. *shrugs* I am somewhat burned around my arms, but the humidity is what kills me. |

That absolutely fucking sucks, Nagis. I hate humidity. What the hell? Rain and lightning and STILL 90-92 degrees?
And yeah, Thex, I do sort of envy you on that one. I used to be like that. Then I guess my dad's genetics kicked in and now even slight exposure fries me. |
