Got this yesterday, started playing today. As I type I'm in the middle of Chapter 2 (paused). So far it is crazy. The combat is mega sweet. It flows really well, and is super fast paced. The enemies are also relentless. Enemies that are missing their legs will still try and get you anyway they can. Of course it looks snazzy as well, and Ryu Hayabusa = Sex.

The difficulty seems up as well, it's a good challenge so far. Anyone else played? Or going to? Totally go for it!

Yeah, crazy is definitely the best way to describe this.

I was already sold since I absolutely loved the first game to death, but I just got playing the demo and wow ... blew me away. Though I can certainly agree with GT's review and what most are saying out there: Team Ninja's engine and graphics are finally starting to age a bit compared to a lot of other stuff out there now, there's some issues from the previous game still here like bland environments here and there, bad camera angles sometimes, invisible walls, etc ... but it probably will only appeal to those who played the last game I'm guessing.

Either way, it seems like pure win. The charge attacks seem pretty damn insane, as if they weren't already in the first game, they're completely over the top in this one. Although the graphics aren't the best anymore, the animations and fighting is incredibly smooth and really impressive. I applaud them for making the combat even more fun than it already was, all the new features seem great.

I'm definitely going to get this soon.

The scythe ... holy shit!

The lack of posts here displeases me.

I haven't had the chance to play it in a couple days, but I'm on Chapter 8. Now fighting in Russia!

And yeah, Xeo, the scythe is friggen crazy.

Yeah. Well I signed up for Gamefly, to try and save some money I guess .. there's a bunch of 360 games I want to play, but a lot of them I don't want to dish out $60 for. Right now this is probably the only game I'd actually be interested in buying that I don't have already, but I went ahead and put that at the top of my list. Apparently they have this cool "Keep It" option so if you like the game, you can buy it from them, then they send you the box/instructions.

Anyways, yeah. Now I just gotta wait to get this in the mail. Can't wait.

I've thought about doing Gamefly, but I don't know if they operate in Canada. There's such a limited selection here, it's depressing. I actually want to try Earth Defense Force (because it looks silly), but nooooo. D=

I managed to do a bit more today. Ninjas with Explosive Kunais = Broken Dreams. They are pesky buggers, always have been.

But now they have claws, and have faster combos, and can grab you! Plus they will throw two Kunais at once sometimes, they come in larger packs (5-10), and they throw them more often.

Yeah.

So I rented this while I wait for my PS3 to get fixed. Mmmm. The combat is craaaaaaziness.

The game is pretty challenging. I dig it. I, for some reason, refuse to use healing items, so its even more harder. Do items contribute to your final score? If not, I probably should start using them. The boss on stage 2 was roooough.

Thing is, I feel like there's not much strategy with the bosses....Then again I've only fought 2.

TP: You beat it on Master mode? Is that like, Normal mode basically? And if so do the achievements stack? (so by finishing the game on Master Ninja mode did you get the Alcolyte achievement too?). Just curious I guess.

Shuyin: I hear the bosses get "cheaper" later on, but oh well.

TP, if Master Ninja mode is normal basically I'll probably give it a shot. I beat the original and Black on Hard before and got to chapter 12 or something on the second Tournament (godly insane, when they replaced all the enemies basically. Black Ninja's were on the first stage and they were later mainly replaced by these freaking annoying furries that constantly threw you around! I literally gave up because the part I got too was some challenge mode where I had to fight tons of enemies, but it seemed like every single one took like 30 minutes to kill. It seemed like it'd take hours to finish that room or something! But yeah, this was harder than the original/Black on Very Hard I'd say).

I beat it a few days ago and am going through my second playthrough to get the tests of valor. After that, I will try Hard Mode (eep!).

Shuyin: Items don't affect your score. I used some against one boss, and still got Master Ninja rank. If you thought the Level 2 boss was rough, the Level 3 boss is much worse. I found Boss 2 very similar to Murai in the first Ninja Gaiden, so I used similar tactics (though of course this guy is much more stronger).

Xeo: Path of the Warrior is normal, yeah, though the majority of people seem to start on Acolyte (and still have troubles, the lamers). The main strategy for levels I can use it to not use any Healing Items except against bosses. The basic enemies, as annoying as they sometimes can be, are not worth it. Especially in the case of some bosses.

Ughhhhhhh. The chapter 3 boss was a pain.

I'm on path of the warrior. Do I have to beat path of the acolyte to get its achievements? Or will they be unlocked when I beat it?

It stacks, yeah. So go ahead and beat warrior.

And yes, the Chapter 3 boss was pain. Actually, after beating all other bosses, I still find that thing one of the hardest ones. For the "Four Greater Fiends" (don't read if you don't want to know my opinion on them? xP)

Alexei is not so bad, though he grabs a lot.
Volf is a pushover.
Zedonious can be tough, but mostly only because he summons annoying-ass enemies to fight with him.
Elizabet is flat-out moderate.

So, what's the best weapon? Assuming others here don't mind weapon spoilers ...

The Dabilahro was godlike in the first game fully upgraded I thought, sad to see it doesn't return in this one (from what I've heard). But I'm thinking the Scythe might be the replacement.

Dragon Sword is all around good, as usual. You can easily beat the game with it, no problems, as it is usually the best weapon to use against bosses.

The Scythe rips through everybody like they were paper, has a devastating full charge, and crunches the bosses health.

The Vigoorian Flails make you a whirlwind of combos, it's insane.

So, one of those three. Most fun for me is the flails, but those are all great weapons. I like switching weapons almost every few fights to mix things up (Tonfas are fun).

I just annihilated Alexei with the Claws.

So... Either I'm a god with combos or gaining currency is too easy. I'm only on level 5 and all of my weapons are maxed out....

So, I started Path of the Mentor (Hard Mode) today.

...I have lacerations on my body from it's difficulty. Blargh. The difficulty gap is huuuuge. In the first level, all the enemy ninja have been replaced by the Spec Ops Ninja, and the groups often include a rocket guy or two. All archers have been replaced with Rocket Guys (and sometimes multi-rocket enemies). Furthermore, these groups don't just have improved enemies in them, they are now larger mobs. The first boss has stronger attacks, and is accompanied by a crapload of Explosive Kunai enemies.

Add all that together with a tiny healthbar and limited Healing Items (I also ran out of ninpo before I fought the boss...), and you got an unhappy me. XD
