According to this, we are in last place.

Takes two minutes for an average South Korean user to download a full length Movie, in which it takes 3 hours to download for a US user.

And guess what? We are the most expensive, why are we paying the most for such crappy speeds?

I get 2 mb broadband for £30 a month... Although that also includes a decent digital TV service and a phone line.

But considering Japan can get 100 mb broadband probably for just as much, it makes it seem like shit.

Yeah, this is the worst idea ever. Comcast has been testing this out with some places like in Texas I believe, really pissing people off.

We're paying $33 a month for 18mb down and 5 up, so it's not bad considering. We're also not dead last, really, and Japan isn't really that good. If you're looking at just numbers, then yes, it looks bad, but there are other factors in play that aren't reflected in those numbers. Such as peak user times.

I can download an entire movie in 10 minutes if I'm using my internet connection at 2 in the morning (I'm usually up); not the case if I'm trying to do so at 2 in the afternoon. Also, my higher memory Mac is able to download things faster than my lower memory PC. The directly connected (wired) computers in our home download things faster than the WiFi PCs.

At Yahoo, towards the end of the day, we're averaging 18mb down and 16 up (on the WiFi), and I know it fluctuates through the day, and that's pretty good considering the amount of data moving in and out of this complex (since our main datacenter is somewhere near here--can't say where).

And, my all time best has been 20mb down and 18 up at 4PM in March of this year.

SpeedTest.net keeps track of all the times I've run the test, from any of my computers, so I can always judge how well I'm doing. Frankly, I don't care because I'm not even using the full capacity of my internet adapters at any one time ever. The occasional TV show, maybe, but other than that, I can wait anywhere from 10 minutes to 6 hours to get something I want.

The FCC stopped that about a month ago.

Not true, Alot of my friends have the cap issue, and yes, it bites.

I pay 30 bucks a month for 30 MMB down, and 2 MB up. And I am in the same Boat as Brew, I am a very patient person, I dont need super speeds to be satisfied, however it would be a luxury.

Yeah, and most of the time I'm not home, so I just leave the computer to its devices while I'm gone. Once BT completes, a script runs to shut it down and the computer, so I still save power (environmentalist).

Anyway, the FCC did take care of it, but that doesn't mean that it's not happening. I'm sure that Comcast is still doing it, because I'll run into things like getting a huge download in a few minutes and having it die on me close to completion, dropping to mere kilobytes per second instead of the megs-per-second I had before.

But, if I could BT at work, where our bandwidth is much higher, I would. But, can't. And, I don't really want to use my work Mac for anything else that isn't wholehearted fun or work. Basically, covering my ass, even though I know that they monitor all of our traffic and usage.

You can say all you want to, but I have a ton of friends who still has that Download cap / Traffic shit. You can scream till you are blue in the face, wont change reality.

Now they might have changed it where you guys live, but here in the East its not changed unless you go with a good company.

And yeah, 30MB down. Premium package for free due to Grandmother working for Southern Bell. How much you pay? Too much? I get mine for free.
