So I have been following this anime ever since I even heard about it. I don't consider myself otaku on this; I do know one thing and one thing only. This anime owns.
This isn't your popular Naruto, or your gory Hellsing, or your deep Cowboy Bebop, or even your romantic Inyuasha. This anime combines everything you know and love about anime, makes it look childish, and turns your head around 360 degrees. It's epic! Pirates! With super powers! What more could you ask for? INTRODUCING: ONE PIECE! Tell me neckbeard. What is this One Piece? It looks silly It is. It ownes. It's fucking good. One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, with his companions Zorro, Nami, Sogeking, Tony Tony Chopper, and more on their adventures to find and retrieve One Piece! ...I just asked what was One Piece... One Piece in the anime is known as the world's greatest treasure. No one knows what it is, and it is sought after every pirate around the globe! So...there are superpowers? Indeed, there are the devil fruit users whom after eating the fruit will obtain powers based on the ability. Monkey D. Luffy owns the "Gum Gum" technique, therefore his body is made of rubber. Tony Tony Chopper ate the "Human Human" fruit, and therefore can be a reindeer one moment and a super human the next. However, it comes with a price. If any devil fruit user falls into the ocean sea, they will fall like a hammer in the water. They are vulnerable. Well that sounds swell; how many episodes are there? Is there a manga? Right now One Piece is on Episode 453, and the Manga has gone even further than that. So needless to say, there is a buttload to watch right now. So are there episodes where some pirate charges up his powerlevel and has to -- Stopping you right there. But no, there are no long sequences. After each and every battle. Each member in the Straw Hat crew learns and becomes even stronger than the last battle. Not going to spoil too much here, but once the Straw Hats fight CP9, you will see some serious shit going on. Where can I watch the anime for free? You're in luck! Subbed and Dubbed! (Last edited by Bitmap on 08-11-10 12:54 AM) |

Not reading this until I catch up.
Just powered through the CP9 arc myself recently. I will probably be caught up by the end of the year. It's the bomb. Best "adventurous" show since I've seen the original Dragon Ball, which One Piece creator Oda, cites that and Toriyama in general as his biggest influence and it really shows. If you guys are a fan of One Piece but haven't seen the original Dragon Ball, definitely give it a whirl. The pacing is a lot faster than DBZ's and you get a greater sense of adventure, covering a lot of diverse land, etc, better balance in comedy, more creative fights, etc. To me these two shows feel like you're living through the two best JRPG's out there. I've never really given One Piece a chance..
I'm not much into characters with really immature personalities (Naruto's character in the original anime just about killed me), and though I've heard it's an amazing series with great characters, I've also heard that there is literately no character development. None of the characters get any more mature, at all. Views? |

Semi-False Semi-True, Certain characters change greatly like Zoro, but some don't Luffy.

For some characters; they do get character development. For those that don't, it's not the character getting development. It's you learning more about the character itself.
Most of the extreme character development lies within the movies. "Strong World" being the latest, once again focuses on Nami. Not only that, but you learn more about (I can't believe I forgot his name) and how he was the -first- devil fruit user to ever escape Impel Down (Which is like a prison for Devil fruit users) Also, right now...well, I'll spoil it. But without spoiling the actual story. There is a shit ton of character development going on in that bitch. Spoiler: Luffy and the others were blown away by Barthulmus Kuma. His "Paw Paw" fruit ability literally knocked each and every crewmember in different parts of the world. Each character must then find each other again by going through rigorous tasks and learns more about themselves. |

Have you guys read the manga lately? The whole gang is back (After being apart for two years) and boy is it something.
Take a look for yourself Look how grown up they ar-- *PFFFTTT* HOLY SHIT USOOP IS BUFF NOW WHAT THE CHRIST!? FRANKY IS HUGE! ZORO...has one eye? Spoiler:
Luffy masters Haki. He is able to predict people's moves now. Sanji is buff and is a hero. Chopper has more medical stuff and is more 'mature' now. Franky got a SUUUUUUUUUUUUPER UPGRAAAAAAAAAAADE. Zoro made a deal with Hawk eye mihawk so now HE is the superior swordsman. Only cost was his eye. Nami learned more about weather patterns in more countries, Not sure about how powerful Robin is. Brooke is now using an electric guitar instead of his violin. Making his music a force instead of a trance, and finally Sanji did not see any girls for two years. Spent two years in an island of 'queers' (How the manga translates) while using his food to buff up his mates A lot has happened in two years! PS that movie was ownage (Last edited by Bitmap on 11-23-10 06:24 PM) |

BUUUMMP
After being talked into by my friend over and over again (Jexim, actually), I started watching the show. It's better than I thought it would be, but I certainly haven't finished an episode and got really excited to watch the next. Take in mind, I'm only on episode 9. How is the manga in comparison to the anime? What are peoples opinions, is it better or worse? Pretty much the exact same? How much farther ahead is the manga? For example, in the manga there was the big time skip, how long would you imagine it'd take for the time skip to reach the anime? Everyone still watching/reading it? |

I stopped on episode ~460 for now, waiting for the current arc to finish airing which I think will be soon. It's indescribable how insane it is right now, so chances are once it's done I'll finish watching that arc in like a day or two.
Kyoku I'd say give it a chance up to episode ~50, that's about when I knew this series was gonna rock my face. A very important and key difference I love about One Piece compared to say DBZ, is that in One Piece EVERY single main character is just as important as the other. 450+ episodes later and that has never once changed, the characters are so damn awesome. Luffy is dumb as rocks (a throwback to the naive Goku haha), but when he has his moments it's insane. I seriously probably can't pick a favorite character because I love them all. |

Originally posted by Kyoku kun Well, I can't really comment on the time frame compared to the Manga / Anime. Give or take six months? Maybe more. During the CP9 stages of the anime. The manga was already on Thriller bark. Eventually the anime cut some corners without interupting the story and added cannon chapters on the manga so the anime could catch up. It's extremely complicated but still very fun to read / watch. Watching the movies (Which has absolutely fucking nothing to do with the actual show) however is a real treat. The animation quality skyrockets and there is honestly no bullshit. Another fun thing is that one of the movies: Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura was basically a remake of the original that aired on TV. But with an update in the roster in the Straw hat pirates: Franky, Robin, and the updated pirate ship franky built for Luffy. Oh yeah. And this time Luffy knows his 2nd and 3rd gear. |

Even the regular show looks ridiculous when you watch some other newer airing shows back to back with it. Can't mess with Toei productions.

Hope I'm not bumping
One Piece is amazing. I really like it too. But, the art style didn't really appeal to me. The time-skip Zoro was really handsome looking though In my opinion now, I like Bleach better But don't mind me, it's just my opinion. Don't get offended. EDIT: Like, the worst sentence ever? I'm TOTALLY offended!
Joking, of course, though I've never really gotten into One Piece. The fact of how many episodes are in it kinda scared me off! |

Well when you get into it you suddenly start watching like 50+ episodes a week so it doesn't take long to catch up!
