Stealing the phrase off of Drizz.

Dudes...we should totally like, make one weekend a month a mandatory "nerd weekend." Sure, most of us don't have the time to be on all the time like we used to...but at least an entire weekend will be fun. Even if not everyone is available the whole weekend, it's still better than sparngly hearing from each other.

But yeah...naturally calling it "nerd weekend" is meant eversoendearnigly...but just to make a longer topic out of this...does anyone here still unwind like that? Even sometimes? Where you just say "Fuck it. I'm going to my room, and not coming out until I've relaxed a little and got back into some of my hobbies."

I still do that. Wish I could do it more often, but ever so often, I climb up to my room, steal my sister's mini-fridge, and don't come out unless I've gotten at LEAST a few hours of gaming under my belt.

And I'm not talking what do we do to relieve stress. While something like this can be stress relieving, what do y'all nerds do for fun anymore? Whether stressed or not? :p

While I really like to spend time by myself playing videogames. I do however go out on a whim and just do -something-

90% of the time when I leave my house and go somewhere random. It always works out for the best. Like last month I went to north GA to go intertubing down the river. For absolutely no reason whatsoever, and after I was done I went bar hopping, and got my first tattoo. All of this done with less than 80 bucks in my pocket and I had the time of my life!

When it comes to nerdy stuff. I rarely do this. I don't have a lot of friends. Only real friend I still hang out and talk with is rarely available and is usually off when I am working. So we have a hard time hanging out every once in awhile. All of my other friends either moved away or are in the military.

There is one place I go to now to kinda "Show off". It's a PC club where you can bring your computer, play on school's internet speed, drink beers, hang out, and have fun. But I normally don't socialize with some of the people there. But it's always fun owning at videogames I am super good at. Again, bad thing about this is that 90% of the people there are either total assholes with SUPREME ego's, or they wont talk to you because they think they are better than you are. Plus I don't know if these guys shower or not. Because good lord some of them stink so bad that the place I go to now has an official rule of general hygene. It was that bad.

But alas, I don't have many friends. Not shy or anything. I love meeting new people. But I guess with my classification "Nerd" it's hard for me to open myself up with other nerds. It's something...I dunno, I don't like to listen to people talk about Pokemon for 4 hours? I dunno?

As for coming on this forum I always visit and post whenever I can. But you mostly find me in the videogame area where I can talk about that all day long.

I'm here most of the time, lurking or making the scattered post (I am gaining on you, Bitmap). But I personally love the idea of Nerd Weekend on the board so that we can actually have more of a conversation.

As for the need to just hide and game... oh gods do I need that. I play a bit now and then, but my major gamer nerd drive has been starving for attention for months. I miss my tabletop rpgs.

You're not missing much playing with nerds. At least in my area to be honest. My God these people are morons.

Huh, you guys should elaborate on this Nerd Weekend idea, I think I like where this is going. Haha.

I think somewhat related, for awhile last year and before off and on my friends and I would get together with a brand new game, say Uncharted 2, and have a gaming marathon and end up beating a lot of games in one day. We decided to keep it fair and everyone got their own marathon day every week or so, so one weekend my friend would play a game new or old, then the next would be another friend, then the next would be my turn, etc. I played RE4, didn't finish that one though but we got like 11 hours in haha. It was a cool idea, sadly we never do it now. Myself and most of my good buddies are all pretty poor honestly ... that might have something to do with it, haha.

The new thing for all of us though is playing board games. Seven Wonders, Thunderstone, Ticket to Ride, objective based games like that. Thunderstone is definitely my top favorite, it's basically a mildy quick and easy dungeon crawling card game. You play competetively, but during the game you play against the game to get victory points if that makes sense.

Top 4 cards is the "dungeon". With each level, left to right, you need "Light" or you get a penalty of -2 to your attack for every level. So level 1 = -2, level 2 = -4, level 3 = -6.

You start off with a pre-set number of the cards at the very bottom, 2 Knives, 2 Torches (Light), 2 Food items, and 6 Militia. Then from there, you build your deck. Each turn you draw 6 cards from your hand. You have three choices during your turn, you can "rest" to destroy a card if you want (get rid of a militia since they're not good, or a disease card you can get from going to the dungeon and defeating some monsters or something) or to simply do nothing if it's a bad hand to put that in the discard pile until you need to reshuffle, or the main options are: Got to the dungeon, or go to the village and buy a card. Every card you have has a gold value so you can determine how much you have in your hand that way to purchase stuff. The second to top row of cards are the Heroes you can buy. By defeating monsters in the dungeon, you gain XP and during your village turns can level these Heroes up eventually. Defeating monsters nets you victory points so that's how you determine who wins at the end, and some level 3 Heroes have victory points (they're hard to get and pretty expensive, there's usually only 2-3 or so per Hero set as well), and sometimes small items might have a point or two.

The game is near damn endless, with a phone app my friends and I use to randomize the village/dungeon sometimes or you can sometimes play with pre-set setups. There's tons of expansions too so it just keeps getting interesting. Here's a slew of some crazy cards and such:
- Tax Collector (Gain 1 gold per player, so a great one for the village)
- Some other cards that let you buy two village cards at once if you have the money
- Level 2-3 Thieve Heroes (who actually have "Light" themselves), always make every other player discard one card when played. Very annoying!
- A lot of village cards have options to destroy them, like "Destroy this card for + Attack or + More extra gold), etc.
- There's "Strength" stats on all the heroes for weapon items. There's village cards that can give all heroes +3 to strength and attack, and so on. So this helps lower level heroes equip weapons for more damage.
- When you defeat a monster, that card goes into your deck/discard. Sometimes they have like +1 Attack or something. Then the next monster card is drawn, sometimes we play with "Trap cards", which can be like ... "Starting from your left, each player draws one card at a time and the first three Hero cards drawn are destroyed", so these traps suck! Then recently we got an expansion that actually has Treasure Cards, which are obviously awesome.
- etccccccccc

I'll just stop there because I have no idea why I'm explaining all this but damn this game is fun! Haha. One of my best friends who disappeared for 3 years to become an RN is hanging out with us a lot more now that he's graduated too, so that's awesome. Kind of reconnecting with him and another old friend from jr. high / high school, who's married now and has a kid on the way. It's still pretty surreal. I still feel like a kid, lol.

Anyways I tend to spend too much time in my room on my own thesedays, but I just need to find some work for awhile and I won't complain about that much. But yeah, dunno if it's some small time depression (nothing like years ago though and my mind is way better off than it was then!), but yeah I often lately feel like my home is prison. I just need to get out more so my mind isn't always wandering, etc, and just need to keep busier, bring in some income, etc. Definitely thinking of going back to school for real sometime in the future too, maybe I can get into some accelerated training and get a BA in 3 years as I work full time... I think I'd totally do it now. Just gotta wait until I'm 25 I guess to apply to more schools like that.

But for me nerd time is the same as always. Watching a lot of anime, playing videogames, browsing the net, etc. I don't know what happened but I finally got kind of a JRPG groove back this year and last as well, I've been replaying a lot of SNES favorites and hitting up a lot of new ones too, I'm currently knee deep into FFV after beating FFIV and FFII (both the PSP remakes which rocked), BACK TO BACK! So three FF's in a row and I'm not feeling burned out at all. Several years ago it was a miracle for me to beat a JRPG once a year, haha.

**blink blink blink**

Boss ftw. (Gotta honor Leon's memory and keep up his tradition of calling you "boss" in case you haven't noticed. Haha.)

I've been meaning to get back into card games myself actually. My friends and I have been poor as well...but we noticed we seriously don't have as much fun when we have some spending money. We actually prefer to just go to someone's house, hang out, drink, watch movies, play video games, etc...and we've been looking for something else to add. Tabletop RPGs are REALLY fun. I'm embarassed to admit that I'm not too familiar with them though. But Xeios and Caiori play DnD and I've been wanting to play, Xei and I talk about it all the time. Just never had the time.

Playing videogames like you do, Xeo, is fun. But honestly, I can only do that with certian people. It's either gotta be 2 player, I'm playing on my own, or I have something else to do while said other friend is playing games all day. I love all of my friends, but some of them just don't share my taste in games. But this one girl I grew up with and I, we could sit in the same room, only one of us have the controler, and still have a ball just hanging out all day. I miss those days actually.

But nerd weekend here for the board...I don't expect everyone can be here the ENTIRE weekend, it would still bring more conversation, like previously stated. I was thinking, actually, if we did this, we should make it maybe the first weekend of every month? Most major, family eating up the entire time, holidays aren't in the beginning of the month...and I'm sure Labor Day, 4th of July weekends might have lots of drunk posts, but they're hilarious anyway.

Try the Pathfinder RPG system, it's so much better than 4th edition D&D!

This Thunderstone sounds interesting, I might have to check it out. Seeing the cards reminded me of Magic: The Gathering though, and oh the nostalgia!

I did a little of DnD back in jr. high, but it wasn't really for me. Guess I prefer the simpler objective based games like Thunderstone. ... definitely check it out if you guys can though, I've heard some of my friends compare it to Magic in terms of "deck building" and all or something.

Although one of my friends was recently showing some interest in maybe setting up a Shadowrun game, that's a tabletop RPG I might be down for just because of my sci-fi bias.
