So I finally finished the Sandman series. Definitely not the ending I was expected, and (this is definitely going to incite a lot of hatred) I honestly didn't like it. It was rather anti-climactic - not with a bang, but with a whimper.

Anyway, I started reading "Endless Nights." I'm liking it a lot more. Probably because I always loved the other Endless more than Dream.

Need to start reading "Seduction of the Innocent" for my dissertation paper for my American studies capstone class. I'm writing about COMIC BOOKS! Take that everyone stuck writing about race relations and mental illness because they didn't think they could write about pop culture. Mwahahahahahaha!!

"Seduction of the Innocent," published in the '50s, pretty much lays out why comics are destroying society and making American youth hostile and stupid. Since we're supposed to write about a problem and how experts of a particular time wrote about it, this is PERFECT!

Not all that excited about reading it, though. It's the book that nearly destroyed comics. Took away their edge, and made them create the Comics Code Authority, which was censoring comics.

Thankfully we had the Silver Age and everything that came after that. Great stuff.

Just finished reading The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Knocked it out in about a day and just absolutely loved it. I want to get into comics more, so any ideas where to start?

On a whim read the first volume of "Priest" because I wanted to talk about the movie at this Asian-American media activist meeting since it's a Korean manga and Maggie Q kicks ass in it.

I saw a few clips at WonderCon - the acting is shite.

The manga's pretty decent, though. Since I bought the first four volumes at a local comic shop for $5, I'll go through those before I decide to continue.

So I've just hit the ninth book of ten, and I'm in love. This is easily some of the best 20 bucks I've spent in a long, long time. Has anyone else read any of the Amber books?

What AREN'T I reading? Right now, I have a list of books I need to finish. I'm working on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy right now, and I'll be switching over to Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman once I'm done that.

I'm in the middle of reading The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld right not. For those of you who don't know, he also wrote the Midnighter's series and Peeps.

I loved both of those, and the Uglies series has not been a let down so far.

Just finished Gideon's Sword by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Interesting book, but not quite as good as their series about Agent Pendergast.

I am eagerly awaiting both the new Pendergast book, Cold Vengence and the new Song of Ice & Fire book, A Dance with Dragons. I preordered both together though, so I am stuck waiting for Dance until August when the other one is released.

Ok, so technically I didn't read it because it was an audiobook, but just finished Tina Fey's book Bossypants and it was extremely funny.

Read the latest volumes of Fables, Witches and Rose Red.

I've started trying to read Unwritten, another Vertigo series.

I really should pick up reading novels again, especially since I finally straightened my book shelf and there's several there I haven't gotten to yet that have been there since high school (Catch-22, Confederacy of Dunces, The Jungle, etc).

I've know started reading a sci-fi series by Jack McDevitt about a guy named Alex Benedict. It is really neat and kinda Sherlock-y in some ways, and there is a lot of fictional history.

The first book is called A Talent for War and I am reading the second book, Polaris right now.

Read the three volumes of The Unwritten that are out. Looking forward to the fourth one in October, but we'll see if my library picks it up.

Started reading The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer. So far it's not bad, but I should REALLY read something good after it to balance out the pop culture anachronism. I mean, I love history re-imagined, but this is getting out of hand with everyone turning into a vampire hunter or zombie slayer.

Finished Polaris and I gotta say it was really interesting. Also read A Dance With Dragons, the latest in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin (after waiting six fucking years) and Cold Vengeance by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child... they destroyed Attic red figure and it made me want to cry. What is wrong with me?

Now on to the latest Kitty Norville book by Carrie Vaughn, Kitty's Big Trouble. Fuck all those vampire novels, werewolves are so much better!

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." Was the only one like that I read...and it was hilarious. I read the original Jaene Austin novel, so even the slight nuances had me in stitches, such as it being in the same sort of language she wrote, and the careless mention of zombies at times...XD XD XD

I'm currently about to finish "Rethinking Kennedy." by Michael O'Brien. It's a far more condensed version of the Biography he did on JFK, but it was recommended to me by one of the history professors I'm going to have again this semester, and his recommendation (actually, he insisted) hasn't disappointed.

Finally read Batman: The Killing Joke after years of meaning to. Not Alan Moore's finest, but pretty good.

Also read the first two volumes (the only ones out) of American Vampire. I have the first few issues from when they were first released, but sort of dropped off and going to the comic shops.

Right now reading this new graphic novel, Anya's Ghost. A friend borrowed it from the library and insisted I read it. It's OK. Nothing I'm really excited about. I think she only wanted me to read it because the main character is of Russian descent and this friend is a Russophile.

Read Anya's Ghost in a couple hours. It's not the masterpiece the comments on the cover make it seem. It's more of a glorified children's book on the level of Coraline.

Also read the first two volumes of Sweet Tooth, a relatively new graphic novel put out by Vertigo. What's with these latest "instant classics" being these dreary post-apocalyptic stories (Walking Dead, Y: The Last Man, etc) or feature some mysterious thing that's killing people (Chew, etc).

It's pretty dark and, in a sense, disturbing.

Seeker, the third book of the Jack McDevitt novels. I started it awhile ago, but then Dance and Cold Vengeance came out and I set it aside. There is the really cool chapter where the main character is in the territory of the one other alien race (whom humanity has an uneasy truce with) and sees just what they think of humans... it's really cool to read because it seems so accurate to something we would do to groups we feel superior too... like Neanderthals.

That is actually one of my favorite Batman comics. I love how it shows how similar Batman and The Joker are. You caught the metaphorical joke at the end, right? How Batman was supposed to be the one who wouldn't cross and the Joker was the crazier one?

I just read The Lovely Bones. A lot of people have talked about it, and my girlfriend recently lent it to me. I was surprised at how good it was.

Still been meaning to read the original Alice in Wonderland, but I haven't gotten around to it. I'm also waiting very impatiently for the next The Lost Hero books to come out, The Son of Neptune.

I kept thinking Joker was suddenly The Comedian, like Alan wasn't through playing with aspects of that character the year or so prior to penning The Killing Joke. Like he saw the world as one big joke.

I guess regarding the metaphorical joke, it's pretty much pointing out that Batman and Joker are both insane, but Batman's putting it towards a force of good, while Joker's obviously not. I dunno.

Picked up the first Walking Dead compendium from the library. I might finally finish it. I mean, I've read the first two graphic novels, and despite owning like the next three, I never really sat down to read them.

I can see what you mean. They were very similar, but I loved how it was done, regardless.

The joke shows that they are both insane, yes. But the Joker is the one who first jumps. He takes a leap away from the norm and offers to help the second, Batman. But the second inmate seems level-headed and intelligent, until he gives his reason for not leaving, which is that he might fall anyway due to the light being turned off. So Batman seems intelligent and hesitant, but in his own way, is just as crazy as the Joker.

Also, reading the original Alice in Wonderland.

Behold the pile of nerdy books that I got when Borders went out of business. Currently I am reading The French and Indian War to get a head start for the PA history class I am going to have to take next semester... I figure I will look better if I know more.
