Hey, Lord Alexandor. Welcome to the interview series!
First, tell us about yourself. Where are you from? What have you been doing and what do you plan to do? What are you into? Anything at all. |

Well, that's a tall order... Lets start with the questions you asked, then I'll add to that.
Where am I from? I'm from south east Michigan, but I won't say exactly where. But I will say I'm within driving distance of Selfridge Air National Guard Base. What have I been doing? I've been working, playing games, and trying to gain weight to join the US Air Force (more on this later). What do I plan to do? Join the US Air Force as an officer, have some kids, and lead a productive life. I would love to actually finish my online battle thing that I started a long time ago, but its very complicated and I got tired of working on it. I still have everything for it, though. What am I into? Computers, technology, the internet, Minecraft, Reddit, and some webcomics. I love playing Minecraft, Saints Row the Third, and Black Mesa at the moment. I also like to sit and play Harvest Moon on occasion. I like programming and making web pages, but that's more of a hobby. Anything else? I'm really excited to get into the USAF, and I'm blogging my experience on my website (The Airman's Life) and will continue to update it when I can. I'm happily married (3 years!) to my wonderful wife and have a cat named Cruz who is adorable and silly. I ran Dark UnderWorld Mega Forums back in the day, and I've been on Xeogaming since it was Masters of Darkness (or something like that). I enjoy watching Castle, Dr. Who, and a few other shows on TV, but otherwise I hate popular media. I watch a lot of stuff online, though. I lurk Reddit daily (almost) and I enjoy reading XKCD and Shlock Mercenary (to name a few webcomics). I love going to the range, but 9mm ammo is a bit expensive to go more than 2 times per month. I enjoy strategy games and chatting about space, science, computers and other geeky things. My parents and brother are really great, and we try to get together often to play board games. My wife wants to watch Captain America now, so I'll just end here. I'm sure we'll learn more later in this interview. I'll try to post as often as I can. =D |

Very nice.
So why did you decide to join the Air Force in particular? |

Why the Air Force? Well, Army is too much ground pounding and high combat. Marines are pretty much the same way, but with even more rules...and they go on boats. Navy is pretty much boats and ocean...I don't like ocean. Coast Guard is boats, water, and jumping into the water. I'm not a water guy. I'm also skinny and scrawny, so I don't want much combat or ground-pounding.
The Air Force is more like a business than the other branches, and it tends to have less combat (and water) than the others. Also, USAF has space, airplanes, and "Cyberspace" operations. I'm actually hoping to go into logistics, personnel (which is over-employed), public relations, or something with computers. I currently have a job blocked out for Knowlege Operations if I enlist, but I'm kind of hoping to go officer. Officers get better pay and much more awesome jobs. Plus, officers can fly stuff (planes, drones, etc). For the full details on why I chose to be in the Air Force, check the first post of my blog (link) where I go into detail about my situation and why I always wanted to be a pilot, but couldn't due to eye sight. Now, I am going because its a full time job with good benefits and a way to get out of Michigan. |

So what is it about working with computers (programming, etc) that speaks to you?
Lord Alexandor Knight Discord Manager Since: 10-15-06 From: Dayton, OH Since last post: 1387 days Last activity: 79 days |

I don't really know... Maybe its my love of logical things? Most computer-related things are very logical and easy for me to follow. Programming allows me to problem solve and be creative. Web design lets me be artistic at the same time. The fact that it is primarily cognative rather than physical activity also makes me happy - I'm lazy and I don't have a very "strong" body.
I am also a stickler for making things according to specifications. I try to keep all my web stuff within the W3C specs and I try to keep my programming easy to follow. I code so others can see and understand what is happening. That often leads me to be inefficient, but it makes changes and revisions so much easier. Computers are also very easy for me to figure out because of their logic. I tend to be the guy that my friends call about computer problems, especially when they don't want to look like an idiot. I always help people with computer problems in a dignified manner...unless they are a dick. I've built computers and fixed them for friends and family for years, and I love it. |

And you still get together to meet with your family to play board games? Wow. I can't remember the last time I did anything like that with my parents. Tell me about your family.

Well, my dad works on Special Projects for GM, so I don't really know what he does. He's pretty cool and taught me a lot about disipline, self-control, and good work ethic. He's also where my brother and I get our crazy from. =P He's silly, to put it mildly. He is a total business man, but is more in touch with the rest of America when it comes to economics. He is also a big car guy, having owned 20+ mustans and a ferari in college. He re-built cars and sold them for a long time. =D
My mom is a church volunteer. We're all christian, but not super zelous or anything. She is trying to save their struggling (financially) church as basically the finance committee. She bowls in a league and does stained glass. Pretty cool stay at home mom for the most part, but she did do substitute teaching. She has a degree in civil engineering or architecture (not sure which). She is super nice, but seems to be getting a shorter temper as she ages. My older brother is still registered here (Soul_Of_Steel, but doesn't post at all. He's kind of...different...from the rest of us. He's really big into anime, MLP, and fan fiction. He is also super lazy and very intelligent. I love that he goes to play games every month at a nearby comic shop. He does Warhammer 40k and other tabletop games and always has something new for us to play. He's the odd sheep, but he keeps us all together. Growing up, we moved a few times for my Dad's work, but it was all good. My brother and I didn't get along so well during my middle/high school years, but before that and since I was a junior in college, we got along great. I think I will miss my brother the most when I ship out with the military, but I'll definately call my mom most often. I love my dad like crazy, but we have a complicated relationship. We are both very stubborn and have somewhat opposing views for politics, religion, economics, and a few other things, but we share plenty in common, like a love of guns, security, and general goofyness. Well, that's all I can write for now - I have to get back to work. Yay meal break with Taco Bell and Xeogaming! |

Heh, my mom also volunteers at her church and she's off-and-on done stained glass projects as a hobby.
What about your wife? (Last edited by Rogue on 09-23-12 12:51 PM) |

Well, my wife and I met in college (freshman year) and got married in August 2009 after we graduated in May. I really love her, but sometimes she can be difficult. I think that's just the way life is. She is really into books, musicals, TV, movies, theater, and "crafts" as she calls them. Things like knitting, leather work, scrapbooking, and sewing. We often just do our own thing, but we do like to watch movies together, watch Dr. Who and Castle together, and whatever else we can when we're able to. Her work schedule (Salvation Army) and mine (Office Max) often don't line up for much together time. Its ok, though, since we've been together for so long. I'd like to have regular schedules so we could see each other more often, but such is life. I'm hoping that once my training is done, I'll be able to see her daily.

Looking over a profile you'd written for yourself you listed as your theme songs "In The End" by Linkin Park, "In The Light" by DCTalk, and "Forever Today" by DJ Tiësto.
Why those songs? |
|||

Wow...where'd you find that? Those songs would no longer be my theme songs...except "In The End" by Linkin Park. I'd have to add "Wretches and Kings" (album: A Thousand Suns) and "Hands Held High" (album: Minutes to Midnight [explicit]) to that list.
Why those songs? The lyrics in the later two really speak to how I feel the situation in America is/will be and I also like the music itself. I think the two albums (Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns) are more like messages about how many people feel in the USA. I like "In The End" because it reminds me of my character's background and what he is like. If you want more about that, ask it separately, since I could write a couple pages on that if we really want to go there. As for the old songs ("In The Light" and "Forever Today"), I liked the lyrics of "In The Light" for how I was feeling spiritually, but now I feel like I'm either already there, or I'm not really trying that hard to go further. And sadly, I'm OK with that. As for "Forever Today" I really like how it started of kind of slow and classical...almost sad, but it starts to pick up at around 3:18 and becomes a more upbeat electronica beat. That change is smooth and really feels...organic? It feels like the song just belongs as a theme song or something. But, neither really fit what I feel these days. I keep "In The End" just for sentimental reasons. Since I can't seem to get the embed codes to work for my music player, I'll just link you to a page: [link] |

That would be from this profile here.
Tell me about your college experiences. I think I remember you playing a zombie game with Nerf guns. |

Well, in college, I met my wife. I changed majors. I played lots of Halo. I one of my best friends there - he was my room mate for all 4 years. I was a part of the Medieval Society and the Anime Club. I worked for the IT department, fixing computers. Not really much else happened except for the Nerf game.
We played Humans Vs Zombies in my Junior year (07-08) and that was a blast. We all had nerf guns all the time during the game. I would usually carry my longshot on my back, a maverick in each cargo pocket of my pants, and I'd have several spare magazines for the longshot in my pockets or bags. I was usually the most heavily "armed" person at all times, but sometimes I was under prepared. I eventually got turned and managed to trick a human into leaving a safe zone in order to get them infected. We ended up losing because we never banned the throwing of fistfuls of darts by humans. The last 2 survivors just had bags of darts and threw handfuls at zombies to kill them at the end. It was kind of cheap, but we had a blast. I just wish I could do that again...=P |

Tell me about your own personal philosophy. What do you believe in? What's your reason for getting up in the morning? What do you live by?

Well, this was/is a tough question. Its sounds so simple, but its very complex. I guess I'll start with how I live my life and go from there.
I live in the present and plan for the future. I remember the past, but I do not dwell in it. If something bad has happened in the past, I learn from it and move on. Some people say I'm cold, but thats just how I get through life. I'm actually very emotional and I do react emotionally...I just tend to not let those emotions run me or override my logical thought processes. I tend to value family and friends above myself, but I've been known to look out for myself over others on occasion. In a life and death situation, I'd gladly save an innocent person at my own expense. I value truth, justice, patience, intelligence, and honor in others, so I tend to not look out for people who are not any of these. It shows in my job performance, too. If a customer won't learn or listen to what I'm saying after asking for help, I just point them at something we have in-stock that is going to get me a sale. If the customer is smart or actually pays attention and is a good person, I'll make sure they get what they actually need - even if I have to send them to a competitor to get it. I'm christian(ish) and I really don't like fanatical religious people. I try to live my life around the basic principles of christianity and I feel that the religion works for me. I even feel that it is the "best" or "correct" religion. However, I will never ever tell you that you are wrong (or right) just because of your religious choices. I have friends who are buddhist, muslim, jewish, athiest (lots of those), agnostic, and even a pegan. Everyone has the right to choose and we are not to judge others for their choices. That is the biggest thing I have against violent/pushy/arrogant/elitest people who claim that their religion is their justification for doing stupid/horrid things. Fuck that. You might say that I'm one "chill motherfucker" in that I don't tend to show much in the way of "caring" about things. Life does what it does and I'm content to go where it goes. If we use the analogy of "the river of life" I'd say that I use my paddles to steer in my boat, rather than try to row upstream or across the mile wide river to get to a small split. I don't believe in fate, but I do belive in causality. I steer my life, but I don't try to control it with an iron fist. Does that even make sense? Why do I get up in the morning? I think its because I feel a need to do something. I tend to be "lazy" on days I don't work or have things planned, but I usually end up accomplishing something worth showing...or I just fuck around and play games. I love sleep, but I like doing things more. Also, I'd rather spend an hour being bored with someone that spend 3 hours playing my favorite game or having fun. As much as I hate to say it, I thrive with people. I live by the idea that I'll do my thing, you do yours, and lets not fuck with eachother's goals. You don't piss me off, I won't piss you off. If it happens, be cool - it was probably an accident. Why can't people just relax and get over themselves? We can all do our thing and not argue. Just take some responsibility and fess up when you screw up or insult someone. And don't get insulted/upset about stupid things that won't matter in a week. If you won't remember it in a week (or 3), its not important. Don't worry about it. And don't make ridgid plans and expectations - if plans change, don't get upset...its ok! I think I covered everything that was asked, but I'm not positive. I know my interview is now "over" but I'd like to keep it open to additional questions or comments from other people. =D |

Great stuff Mr. Kevin, heh. 25 does seem a bit on edge to enlist, doesn't it? Like you kind of said over your blog there (good read there too), but that's awesome you're not letting that stop you. I kind of consider it off and on myself, still not sure what to do with life... but who knows.
It's always sounded like the big brains get into the Air Force, haha. Sounds like the toughest part to get into over the other divisions (or whatever). I always think Navy myself. One of my buddies always tells me how his dad dad that for years and was stationed somewhere in Europe for a few years, had an easy job there and basically got paid to live a good life there for awhile. Pretty awesome... Ah yeah the battle system here, haven't forgotten about it myself! In a weird way it's always been amusing to me that you don't often post much, but you're still very active in the community in your own ways and seem to constantly keep busy (here and everywhere else). Good stuff. I guess I didn't really have much to ask or add, just throwing this all out there. Some of your "philosophy" are things I need to apply to my thinking as well. Just funny reading over your thoughts there that kind of resonate with me. Another daily weird "destiny" kind of thing I guess, lol. |

Thanks, Xeo. It really means a lot to me to hear that my thoughts resonate with you.
I do have that battle system thing still on my site and backed up on my computer. I may never finish it, but I still look at it from time to time and think about how to move forward. If anyone ever wants the code, I'll give it out no problem. When I took my test for the Air Force, I was shocked that the others scored so low. I got a 95, but most of the others were around 50-65. The test was easy as a basic high school test. Seeing that makes me unconcerned about my Officer test. Its supposed to be like an SAT/ACT type test. I have several friends in the Navy and one in the Marines. I didn't want to do either since I don't like boats. Same thing with Coast Guard. That left Army and Air Force. I'm sure I could have gone Army and gotten a very quick rank-up in the Officers, but I decided Air Force was "safer" than Army. *shrug* |
