I got to know Gordon Lee when I first moved into Rome, Ga after my deployment. He became one of my friends quickly. One of the strongest points about him was his opinions which made him an honest sort of guy. He kept a shop that made many happy memories and was a huge haven for many MANY nerds in Rome. He always poked fun at my husband and I. Then when Eric would dish it back, he wouldn't be offended instead he would laugh. He was one of the first friends I made in Rome. I first met him when I went on R and R during my deployment. When I came back we went to karaoke at 333 and guess who was there. Gordon. He was everywhere, I thought. Of course he was everywhere in Rome. He ran his own karaoke, trivia, and even owned a shop.

I got to know him a little more when I would go to the Y off and on and talk to him before Zumba class. He would be running on a treadmill right in front of the walkway nearest to the basketball courts. The sad part was it was about one or two weeks before he went to the hospital for his stroke. I found out about the news Saturday. I couldn't believe it. I still couldn't believe it. I cried. I cried off and on all night. I went to the hospital that night HOPING... PLEADING he would be okay. Of course I was wrong. I didn't know what to do when I got there. I didn't know what to say. All I could was listen. I couldn't accept it. Then I got the message that he was gone.... For good.

All I can do now is hold all of the happy and funny memories dear and close to me. I know you are probably relaxed now.

I'm sorry for your loss, Sarah. It is never easy to lose a friend.

It was sudden. Very sudden. I didn't hear about it til Saturday which really hit me hard.

if it wasn't for him... I wouldn't be in the circle of friends I'm in now.

I'm unable to go to the memorial today because I am a bit self conscious about bringing in D'arcy. I didn't have anyone to watch her and she's been having a bad day today so the extreme crying during a eulogy will not cut it for me. So I've decided that Eric and I will get a flower from the store and place it in front of his first shop he was in when we first met him.

Aww, shame you two could not go... but I would have to agree that cranky baby is not something to have at a funeral. As crappy as it is, it is actually very considerate of you (I've had family members that are not so thoughtful)

Well, he was cremated and his ashes are going to be spread to each store he rented. So he'll be all over Rome... once again.
